There’s a rodeo event being held at Taralga on January 26-28, and I plan to go so I need an appropriate country hat. Join me as I go shopping for a nice Akubra hat to wear.

I have two Cooper Pedy Hat’s and I wear them for over ten years, still going strong. Incredible hats, love ‚em.

Good choice. Similar to the Riverina. The only difference is the Riverina has a larger brim (10cm).The Coober Pedy is also fully lined whereas the Riverina isn't.

Good Old Surplus City. Nick & Eric were always great guys & really helpful. I used to buy a lot of clothing & knives from there when younger. Sadly Ive moved away and have not been in there for years. I might have to make a trip back soon and see the boys if they are still there. As for the Akubra Ive recent brought the Coober Pedy myself & love it.

I've seen older gents wear that hat way back on their heads, but I wear mine very forward. Love this style. However, yes, I have more than one Akubra.

When you buy a new akubra always get it in 1 size bigger than your head size. They will shrink and will be a good fit. Also if you want it for work then buy 1 that is not line inside. They get hot.

Is it comfortable in the summer? What's the humidity and Mercury like in ur neck the woods?

It's very comfortable to wear, not heavy. Being lined inside the crown does make it a little warmer than if it weren't, but not too bad really. At the property, humidity is low, and temps can reach into mid 40's C in Summer, very hot. I wouldn't go out in the sun without it. Thanks for watching!

Did you get it one size bigger? They shrink a size, and a foam insert under the leather inside rim are used until it does.

Hi Paul - no I stayed with the size 60, which seems to have formed to fit a bit better. But I would try a 61 next time.

Thank you, yes I'm liking it a lot. I was worried it might shrink a little and feel tight, but it has loosened a little and fits my head better. I'm careful with it, but not too worries if it gets dusty or wet, seems to be fine for all that. It has edge binding and the inside is lined, which would make it more of a "town" hat, but I like the size and shape for wearing out in the bush. Thanks for watching!

Which colour is that? I notice that for a lot of Akubras the same colors can look different on various websites and photos.

I think it is an Olive Green, but I can't recall if that's the official name of the colour.

I am looking for my first Akubra for summer use in Australia. How do you find them in the heat? I have read lined hats are just very hot which defeats the purpose in my opinion. Thanks in advance.

Akubra do have a range of unlined hats as well. Mine can get warm in summer, but the wide brim is great for sun protection, and for me its a year-round hat. If it's really hot and I have to be out in the sun (eg mowing the lawn) I wear a wide straw gardening hat, that you might get fro Bunnings.

What color is it?

That is a good question. I believe it is a colour that Akubra call "Santone" - kind of a khaki or olive mid-green, not brown. Akubra do have a colour they call "Khaki" but it is a darker green. The colour does change in the different light.
