The description of Khorne's motivations for granting boons made me think of performance reviews, budget reports, and grant funding. Demonstrate you can capably manage mass murder and turn a profit of skulls and he may approve your request for more muscles. Khorne probably outsources the actual accounting to Nurgle's plaguebearers though. Edit: and again the Great Horned Rat was forgotten, as is fitting.

I find nurgle the most disturbing one because he reminds me of how real cults work with love bombing, and even if it is genuine, you’re basically destroying yourself mentally all for the promise of happiness, and like a cult they target people in a vulnerable situation,which I’m shocked to see people think that’s a positive.

I would say the only one that was missing is the Horned Rat, who actually has human worshipers. He is the god of ruin and survival, and worshiping him seems to be more a case if you want to be pet or prey.

A few more things in Nurgle's favor. 1)In contrast to the other chaos gods Nurgle doesnt create new daemons all that much but he instead turns the souls of his dead followers into new daemons and they seem to retain a good deal of their memories as well. Having an afterlife as a guarantee is legit one of the best things you could ask in this setting compared to the alternatives. 2) Nurgle daemons are legit capable of forming genuine bonds and friendships with each other by default and not as an oddity. 3)If you really mess up, Nurgle is the kind of guy that might eventually forgive you. Sure he might putt you in a time-out jar for some amount of time but he will probably let you out eventually. As for Slaneesh: 1)A chance to get into a relationship with a daemon if you are into that (you know who you are). I am not even joking, Syll'esske pretty much proves that genuine love between slaneesh daemons and cultists is possible and it is even hintent that while it's kinda rare its not rare enough to be something frowned upon by other daemons, 2)You will never be judged for being a perfectionist

Personally I go with Tzeentch I greatly enjoy being ever contradictory yet right and equal parts wrong at the same time! After all who can say no to unlimited power even if it takes is a bit of madness?!

there are more solkan lore in the new fantasy rol edition: he and the other gods of Law fought chaos, he defeated Khorne, but becuase the rest lost and retreated he had to retreat. Tileans worship him as god of vendettas, his temples have depictions of him kicking khorne.

Necoho is the correct chaos god to worship. It wont give you great power, probably won’t lead to you getting horrible mutations but it will annoy him.

I ran a game of Black Crusade where Zuvasin was the messenger of Malal and was trying to bring Malal back into the Warp by tricking some Eldar Corsairs into freeing Isha from Nurgle’s realm to sacrifice her. Fun times, and it’s MY canon.

Something to really think about when one 'joins' chaos is that chaos corruption changes your way of thinking. People who contract Nurgles Rot become plaguebearers, who find it embarrassing they ever struggled against the diseaese. And while maybe thats just your soul and personality completely molding over by the rot, it really goes to show the potency of chaos when it comes to influencing minds. To choose chaos is to accept you're never really going to be just yourself again

My personal favorite chaos god is fandoms. They're expansive, everywhere, full of like minded cultists and make me feel like I'm doing something important when in reality there's a whole real world outside of the Warp.

Your anecdote about Necoho/Zuvassin was about Necoho. It's in the Something Rotten in Kislev module, and iirc it's literally his only altar. If you trash it there's a chance he'll show up and congratulate you. The whole thing is basically there to scare the player characters because pretty much nothing you do will invoke his wrath. And yes, Nuffle is canonically the most powerful chaos god. When he shows up on a world the other gods all take a back seat to him. He's also the most fickle chaos god, as anyone who has ever played Blood Bowl can tell you.

The thing about the Chaos God in how I see them is that there is a lot of overlap. Take Khorne and Slaanesh for example. While Slaanesh is the God of Grape, I see Khorne's demons as capable of doing the same amount of grape to their victims as Slaanesh's Demons, because grape is a weapon and tool used in every war since the first Monkey waged war on the other, and through history by soldiers when they invade a village, city, or nation which also empowers Khorne. Another thing that can overlap with Chaos Gods is pollution. Pollution is more of Nergal's territory. The spreading of pollution destroys life and spreads not just disease, but despair and a yearning for the physical and mental anguish to end. However, Pollution also empowers Tzeench and Khorne. A politician who pollutes a small town's drinking water and uses divide-and-conquer tactics on the town's populace to escape justice empowers Tzeentch. Polluting rivers and land to make enemy soldiers empowers not just Nergal, but also Khorne, and polluting rivers just to save money for a giant corporation can empower not just Tzeentch, but also Slaanesh with the desire for wealth. And why desire is a Slaanesh territory, it is also big in Tzeentch's territory, and also in Nergal, and Khorne. They all have a hold on the desire for a better existence, but through varying and different methods that causes overlap on one another, and that is why the Chaos Gods own the souls of Humanity, unless the Emperor can save them.

In real life, I think Slaanesh holds greater sway over regular folks. The allure and corruption of excess is much harder to stave off as compared to the rest.

You know what would be cool? To see the Warhammer Fantasy world from the perspective of Norsca for one. Not like the stories of Wulfrik the Wanderer, because the perspctive on the world itself is very much from the Empire / HIgh Elf side of things. I mean, what do Norscans actually see when they see demons and mutations? How does their society actually function? They're a civilization that primarily worships the Ruinous Powers, yet maintain enough stability to have a population large enough to wage war with the southlands.

In terms of Warhammer Fantasy, I might just say Be'lakor or Hashut. I like to think of Be'lakor as intrusive thoughts made manifest, whispering to mortals from the shadows. Also, him being involved in Mordheim, Shadow over Albion and even Vermintide certainly makes him more interesting than some intangible cosmic evil.

The idea that Big E was going to be the Chaos God Hashut in 40k would certainly explain a fair few things about the imperium, although I could also see him becoming Necoho. But mostly I'm now imagining Emps as Hashut.

First time I've heard slaanesh described in a way that could actually have upsides. It's always "you're pushed to extremes until you're miserable because you can't get satisfaction from anything, and it all just sucks." I like the idea of her worshippers just doing whatever they like most to the extreme and actually enjoying it at the expense of everyone else. Also I think you did nurgle a little dirty. His main domain is life, in all its aspects. That means accepting that life must consume one another in order to survive, but in return some pros he provides include: >eternal (or at least greatly extended) life >peace of mind and stability, satisfaction with a job well done >escape from the cycle of life and death (his gifts will thrive within and from your flesh, but you won't be harmed) >support and encouragement to help you achieve >next to khorne he's the most honest Chaos God. I knew that he wouldn't get a full section in the video since he's very explicitly *trying* to become a Chaos God but isn't one yet, but I'm still glad Vastor got a shout out. Since this is a video about Chaos God worship. I tell the story when I became a worshipper of Nurgle. I had a terribly painful intestine infection with every single symptom you can imagine. It didnt help that i heard my mother say that she would love to get me somewhere else, so i am not home, so i felt pretty cast out from my family. So i just layed there, in a dark room, with my own thoughts. The pain mixed with what i felt made me think: "What if i pray to Nurgle? Nothing bad could happen, right? Worth a shot..." So i looked up and started praying to Nurgle to help me in any way he can. Suddenly, i felt a light breeze, the door to my room opened and someone put a tray on the table. "I brought you some medication, tea, and biscuits. If you need anything, know that i am here." I was in quite a lot of pain, and the fact that i already had been given some treatment, my senses were a bit dull. Now of course this could have been my father, being as badass as he always was... or was it Nurgle?

Honestly… Slaanesh’s ring of indolence doesn’t sound so bad. You fall asleep on a blissful beach until your bones become sand. No mention of torture, just “ahh, sad, you can’t do anything anymore.” Bitch, I’m sleeping blissfully-it’s all good.

Nurgle. I am way too chill for Khorne, not ambitious enough for Tzeentch, and not masochistic or cruel enough for Slaanesh. I am perfectly aware of the daunting scale and cruel indifference of the universe, and I can look at all that and go 'I can work with this'. I'm also generally nice and make it my calling in life to help others, especially family, and while that can easily be twisted by Nurgle, I'm also the kind of guy who would try and take everything Nurgle gives to me and attempt to make something positive out of it and encourage others to follow that example. Would it work? Probably not, but if God gives you a pile of shit, you work with it as best you can because otherwise it just stinks up the place until it dries out.

Personally, I struggle between aspects of Khorne, Tzeentch, and Nurgle. But if I had to choose one of the main 4, I'd go with Tzeentch. The knowledge he has to give will help with my craving of knowledge, love of lore videos like this one, and dislike of ignorance. All I have to do is play Tzeentch Roulette where I either become a Deamon Prince, Chaos Spawn of Tzeentch, or nothing and I remain human. I prefer the last option myself, give Tzeentch something entertaining from a mere mortal rather than an OP Daemon Prince or boring idiotic Chaos Spawn. Think Aekold Helbrass from Warhammer Fantasy with how he's a Melee Warrior Champion with the Lore of Life. But if I had to choose any kind of Chaos God... Hashut Vorgund Zharr Naggrund!!! Hashut Vorgund Zharr Naggrund!!! Greatest benefit for little to no downside. Best choice for Chaos God to worship.

Having a favourite Chaos god is like saying "yeah grieving is okay I guess but I really like the denial/bargaining/anger/depression phase" You fundamentally misunderstand what it's for and why it's important. That's why I'm Undivided all the way.

I'm a bit surprised you did not mention the Great Horned Rat (besides that one lil handwave) in this video, considering how (as of AoS) he/she/IT muscled its way onto stealing a bit of power from each of the Big Four(TM) chaos gods during the Endtimes, becoming a Chaos God proper in what came after, rather than the nebulous "Maybe he is maybe he isn't" approach from good ol' Fantasy. Great video, I just wish you brought up the story of Skarbrand for Khorne. Edit: full story For anyone wondering. Skarbrand was Khornes greatest warrior, always leading his greatest battles, spilling more blood and gathering more skulls than anyone. At one point defeating a coalition of the other 3 gods, among many other achievements. However, tzeench did his thing, and convinced Skarbrand that he was greater than Khorne himself. At one point, Khornes attention was elsewhere. Skarbrand chose this moment to attack. He actually caused a very small injury to Khorne. Khorne was pissed at the betrayal, but far worse than the betrayal was his attack when Khorne was distracted. For Skarbrands cowardice more than anything, Khorne literally chocked all his pride, greed, and just about every emotion other than all-consuming rage out of Skarbrand, and exiled him to the mortal realms.

Thank you for making this. I really wasn't sure which one I'd pick but now I can make a much more informed decision about who to worship in the future.

The problem with Slaanesh is that you're basically dooming yourself to never be satisfied. Slaanesh is the god of excess--it might start with having fun and living with no inhibitions, but sooner or later it's not gonna be enough. You're going to start chasing that next high, doing whatever it takes just to feel that feeling again. And every time it's going to get harder, and it won't feel quite as good as it did last time, until you're obsessed and well past madness. Slaanesh is my favorite because they have the most flair and because I'm a degenerate, but of the big 4 they seem like the worst choice in the long term.

I really wish we got some demons or minor chaos gods that were mixes of the Big 4. Specifically Tzeentch and Slaanesh i feel would be a great combination.

In the later Gaunt's Ghosts novels, you get a pretty good idea of what it's like to be a normal person on a chaos controlled Sabbat planet. It makes sense why you would be a member of Blood Pact or one of the other guy's groups. Yeah, it's obviously evil, but it's not as bad as being turned into a servitor, or worked to death in a manufactorum. Also, there's chaos magic all around, it's obviously real.

Based on pure drip alone, Tzeentch wins my vote. I mean, look how badass Tzeentch marauders and chaos knights look like in WHF. Hell, even in 40k they're the best looking traitor marines - shit, Ahriman looks incredible. Even Tzeentch's demons are just flat out more cool and interesting than the others. Like, with Khorne, Slaanesh or Nurgle, you're basically choosing if you want angry demons, gamer demons or horny demons. Tzeentch is basically like "fuck that, how about terrifying multi-limbed blobs with razor sharp teeth, flying mantis rays that kill you by screaming, whatever the fuck a flamer is supposed to be, and a terrifying giant bird-man with rows of razor sharp teeth that looks like it just stepped right out of The Dark Crystal. Oh, and, if you're cool enough, you get to fly around by standing on a floating disc that contains the trapped soul of a demonic screamer, leaves trails of fire, and has so many sharp things stuck to it you can literally kill your enemies by flying into them like the Green Goblin." Not to mention, with Tzeentch you literally can't lose ever because what appears to be losing is always just part of the plan, which literally makes you a winner.

Honestly the best bet if you want to scheme and take power is to follow Khorne. Anybody smart enough to scheme should be smart enough not to trust a fellow schemer. Khorne on the other hand is a blunt weapon with very simple rules, once you've mastered those the rest of your plans can go forward without meddling. Just make sure you're always the strongest... and if you're a clever person it should be easy to know know when to claim the skull of a would be challenger before they have the strength to be a threat.

It seems like, aside from Nurgle, maybe, ANY of the gods could benefit you- the key is playing hard to get, and not screwing up too much. Seems like almost all of the champions who ended up on top either embraced their god of choice wholeheartedly or more likely, REFUSED to fully embrace any one god (like Abaddon/Archeaon)

I didn't expect Sulkan to make an appearance. The only thing I remember about him is that he's in a WFRP 4th Ed splatbook and just kind of randomly shoved in the middle. The book advises that you shouldn't make a follower of Sulkan because of the whole grudge and violence thing, but then gives you detailed rules and a career to play a follower. Which is something I'm finding happens often enough in their books for me to flag it.

That line about a normal human becoming a Khorne Daemon due to inventing some new mass murder thingy gives me an idea. A story about a human who rises through the ranks based off their skills as a leader with no fighting skill whatsoever. Someone who can think like certain enemies in a way that Khorne worshipers might not. Like if enemies are using sneaky hit and run tactics this fellow can see the pattern of their movements and can direct all of their war drunk allies towards getting within axe smashing distance before the sneaky stuff happens. Kinda like if Thrawn from Star Wars legends joined Chaos.

Khorne has always been my favorite out of the big 4 (despite a brief dallance with Tzeentch), but watching this video got me really interested in Hashut, who I had literally never heard of before (granted, I hadn't heard of any of the ones after Malal, but still). My favorite villains are the iron tyrants (why do you think I play Space Marines, because I think they're the good guys?), and dwarves are my favorite fantasy race, so a tyrant of a chaos god who's beloved by chaos dwarves seems right up my alley! Solkan also really caught my interest, both for his extreme lawful tendencies and also because witch hunters are pretty badass. Thanks for giving me an obscure corner of lore to look up!
