I've been eagle-eying the Oral-B io3 for a long time, but everybody says it builds up mold really quickly and easily; the only thing keeping me from getting that particular brush. I was looking at the Oral-B 5000 smart series that is less likely to build up mold, but it doesn't brighten your teeth as well as the io3 that I've been told. Does the io3 really brighten and whiten your teeth a lot more than the non IO brushes? My concern also isn't about the price of the replacement heads. I just want to know what's the better toothbrush with whitening and whether it is worth upgrading to the io3 for that only.

Hey. So no brush is really better at whitening. It's a bit of a fallacy. We explain this in an older video of ours: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/eNaba7llu6e8m2w.html An electric toothbrush can help remove the surface stains on the teeth and make them appear whiter, but there is no evidence I have seen or no logical reason as to why the iO3 would be better than the Oral-B Smart 5000. So no, I would not suggest upgrading to the iO3 just for whitening.

@ElectricTeeth Thank you very much for your response. With that being said, in your opinion, what would be the best non IO toothbrush to purchase? I have reviewed so many that they're all starting to run together. Also, if I do decide to go with the io3, what would be the benefit of purchasing that one over the non IOs?

My top pick would be the Oral-B Smart 1500 (assuming you are in the USA). This delivers the key features you need at an affordable price point. Truthfully it is very similarly priced to the iO3. Albeit the iO3 heads are 2x the cost. The main benefit of going for the iO3 is it is bit quieter. It looks a little nicer with a matt plastic finish rather than gloss. It feels slightly more gentle in use on the teeth and gums, but still cleans well. It also has a better pressure sensor, showing you when you are applying insufficient and the correct force, whereas the Smart 1500 and most other non-iO models only alert you when applying too much.
