If Chibnall hadn't retconned Nyssa and Tegan being in a relationship together, Nyssa could've been on the laptop list instead of the wrong time/place/universe list.

@@CulturePhilter Another thing about Adam to take into consideration, is that Only The Doctor and Rose knew he traveled with them, And afaik, despite him kidnapping old companions in a comic (Which can be argued whether it is canon or not) No one would know to invite him, besides, I don't even think UNIT catalogued him as a Companion like they do with the others.

I know I said I wasn’t going to take expanded media into account but the one exception I made to that was assuming that Sarah Jane was still dead (as per the lockdown story written by Russell about her funeral)

Yes, of course there ways people COULD have gotten back to earth or called in from the future/another planet. But then the list would basically be…. Everyone (apart from Adric, katarina and Sara Kingdom) These are the ones I thought most likely to find out and come to it based on that criteria of LIKEY being on earth at the time it happens

Yet in this same fictional universe, the idea of people calling from other planets or having hitched a ride to Earth off screen is less likely than people we already know to be on Earth? But, apart from possibly Gwen (unless Russell T Davies just rehires John but I doubt it) Jack Harkness probably won’t come back thanks to a certain disgraced DW star bringing up a past thing that Barrowman used to do as a practical joke and has already apologised for years ago. Gee thanks, Noel. At least John’s still making the most of his work on ITV so even if his DW character will never return on TV, at least the guy’s doing something he enjoys.

@@saltheirishgit - I think John could have dealt with the situation very differently and he would have been fine. But he went on the defensive and doesn’t seem to want to say “I got it wrong”. I think look at how James Gunn handled being called out for something dodgy done in his past to see how to actually move past it. I hope there’s not too much bitterness now to discount John EVER returning to the role again. But I think the ball is in his court somewhat to start that healing. 🤷‍♂️

In fact the last bit if expanded media closest to this time in Ian’s life (Big Finish’s ‘Susan’s War’) does have her very much alive (albeit not in the story because she out at the shops) I think I assumed that if Ian was there the only reason Barbara, his wife by this point (according to all expanded media) wouldn’t be was if she had died. But I guess there are other possible explanations for her absence that I should have accounted for.

Yes the actor has passed away but that doesn’t mean the character he played has in-universe. Theoretically the character could still have been on the call

I decided to not factor in expanded media. Mostly because the list would be too long and I didn’t have time to research it all. And I’d consider the DVD trailers as expanded media personally.

In heinsight the lack of Barbara on my list was an oversight. I didn’t not include her because the actress had passed. Like you says others on the list are also in that situation. My reasoning was I assumed if she was alive she would have been there with Ian. But I didn’t take account of other reasons she might not have been, maybe she’s just less mobile than Ian in their advanced ages and finds it harder to get out of the house.

Actors being dead doesn’t mean their characters are so still could have been the ones on the zoom call. I did miss Barbara. I made the assumption at the rind that if she were still alive she would have come with Ian but I suppose it is possible she was poorly or just couldn’t have made it so in heinsight I should have included her. I guess Courtney MIGHT have gotten an invite. 🤔

The criteria I set myself for the list is that they have to be known to have been settled back on present day earth by 2022. While it’s POSSIBLE any of those returned to that time period and planet it’s not where we last saw any of them so it seems unlikely.

My theory for the Ian and Barbara being young is that the rumor sprung up from someone who knew them who ran into the time-traveling younger them in like 2008 or something when the 1st. doctors TARDIS had landed there. Maybe that happened a few times as well.

My canon for Ace is that despite not being mentioned in the episode A Charitable Earth and her having K-9 do take place but they just weren’t relevant, as K-9 was most likely stationed at ACE during the events

I disagree on both counts here. Because we don’t see them it could be any 2005+ companion still on earth and it could be those whose actors are deceased. We don’t see them so it doesn’t matter. It’s speculation about who in-universe not who would have been practical for the production team to use in person. 🙂

Is that dialogue from the show? That they are presumed dead? Or just because the actors are? I know I made the exception with Sarah Jane and included the expanded universe lockdown story to come to conclusion she was dead but that felt like a special case.

While I’m generally not assuming that just because the actor is dead that that means the character is, I’ve assumed here that if Barbara was still alive that Ian wouldn’t have come without her. I should have explained that in the video though. My bad.
