The fun is in being creative, especially finding unique ways.

I think what single ecosystem setups give up in terms of earning they gain in advantage in terms of efficiency. There's an argument to be made that you can spread yourself too thin if you try and earn points in too many different systems. Transfer bonuses are less powerful because your points are scattered, exclusive transfer partner opportunities are harder to capitalize on (for example, MR and TYP won't help you book Hyatt), etc. The only place where you can truly pick "best of breed" without consequence is cash back, because cash is the ultimate transferrable currency.

As long as you are comfortable getting a few cards that work for your situation, you do not need to pigeon hole yourself. Get the best cards for your situation.

Obviously we all knew you weren’t going to give Chase that kind of credit, but the whole intro was hilarious 😆. If you don’t intend to churn/play the CC “game” & just have a handful of cards, I can see the utility in trifectas/duos. But for folks in this community, you’re right that it’s silly to focus on that when we can do so much better at optimizing. Great video 👍🏽.

I believe it is usually a choice between simplicity vs complexity where more complexity = more cards but also more return. I don't spend equally in every category so for me not every category deserves a card

The intro is gold 😂 I get your point but for me, getting a 5% value from the points I earn for travel is easier than using a cashback card. Additionally, IMO a cashback strategy is focused in the short term and for some people a 5% cashback in their spending is nothing. I recently got a trip to Italy with a 10cpp redemption which in theory made my Freedom Unlimited a 15% cashback and my Flex a 50% (in theory)

I like your point of view. I believe in overdoing it 😂 I’m still building my overall set up for all the different categories but I can see myself being like you. Various cards from different issuers to optimize all my spend to earn the most I can. At the end of the day, the more points I earn the more points I get to spend 👍🏼👍🏼

Nice video Jon. For the cash+ card... Do you get hit with a fee from your utility for using a card? How much does that eat into the 5%?

I think this comes down to “need” vs “want”. The trifectas are usually pretty good at getting most of the basics covered, with some different spins on it for each. Some people might have a big category outside of it they want to cover or if it’s a lot need to in order to get better value. Do you “need” 3x vs 2x on say EV charging? If you had the Amex trifecta you’d tap out at 2x if you used the BBP. If you charge a lot you might really want more value there but is it a need? And if you use cash back or another ecosystem then you can dilute points as well. The need vs want debate is always a fun one because it’s so personalized to everyone’s tolerance.

Thanks for another great video! I appreciate your straight forward views. I think the trifecta is a good introductory concept for new people to the points and miles game. Many people don't want to spend the mental load of keeping up with which card to use for each transaction or which benefit to use each month. If someone is inclined to optimize their setup, then there is a lot farther they can go with a utilities card, gym card, etc.

Great video and great topic! I agree! I like to get the most bang for my buck that I can when it comes to earning cash back and points. So I don’t just use one trifecta. I was curious, when you mentioned the Bilt card and having a Wells Fargo Mortgage, is there some way to pay the mortgage using the Bilt card? I had been reluctant to get the Bilt card since I’m a homeowner.

Agree with you 100%. To optimize a trifecta isn’t sufficient.

Plain and Simple, when you are not getting a welcome offer; have a core setup, whether is a trifecta, bisects, quadfecta or a combo of chase, amex, Citi or WF. whatever works for u, nice video.

a lot of the other pages out there go with the "best" trifecta's. I'm seeing theres a lot of go arounds. while it might not be max value, it will still get you great value. if you really think about it, you could make a card like the Strata premier pretty much a 1 card setup. it covers a ton. for the right person (myself) the gold card can be super strong. great video and once my 5/24 cools off I'm going to be looking at that US bank card myself!

The Surpass isn't exactly 4% unless you somehow get 1cpp value consistently. Hilton's value is roughly .5cpp in my mind.

AMEX trifecta and Navy Fed for me. Once I hit my anniversary date, I’m upgrading from delta gold to delta platinum. I never heard of the us bank cash + and it has caught my attention as I work out as well. I don’t rent so bilt is not for me.
