In today's video, Max talks you through 4 different types of dart stems (shafts), and compares their strengths and weaknesses!
We discussed Aluminium, Polycarbonate, Carbon and Mixed stems in this video, but there are more varieties out there.
*Disclaimer - the stems we used in this video were for generic and reference purposes only and what was said does not necessarily reflect the brands/products themselves.

As a couple of others have noted, you left out the most obvious choice for price vs durability: nylon.

Hi thanks for comment, I realise the range was limited and I feel it deserves going into more detail in a future video as there are so many different types, hopefully I will be able to show case in more detail at that point.

I've never used anything else apart from nylon stems don't think I ever will. A lot of stems nowadays are getting pricey.. I always flight punch my flights and that helps a little bit in saving my stems, however nylon are so cheap it really doesn't bother me when they break...

I'm similar, I flight punch and use polycarbonate stems majority of time but I've tried so many through the years and sometimes weighing up the cost of longevity did come into play.

Ive tried all of these plus more options and always come back to Nylon. Strong and great bang for your buck.

See I prefer polycarbonate to nylon, they do tend to snap more on bounce outs compared to nylon but the feel and rigidity at the flight just felt slightly better to me.

I use staple ring with plastic stems, that ring saves your stems 👍

i’ve just brought some of the mission sabre mixed stems and love them so far, think i’ll be sticking to these now going forward as i’m really preferring them to the polycarbonate ones i was using before, love how tightly they grip the flights

I throw short barreled darts w/ 58mm shafts . . . So only so many options available for me. I’m currently using L style and w/ the moulded flights I’m really loving them. No breaks for the most part and flights last much longer.

1:58 as a dart newbie this was really annoying me about my darts and aluminium shafts, I was always having to tighten them. I will definitely try these O-rings - thanks for the tip.

I play low level pub league. I as well us nylon or polycarbonate. Not sure but the material thats malleable and dosent snap clean leaving threads in barrel , just not sure what that material is. Will try the Carbon.

I can recommend the mission sabre stems, the only downside is they are very, very tight to get flights in sometimes, keep well away from polycarbonate stems at all costs, even the more expensive variaties, they're ALL rubbish.

1 robinhood and aluminum is done, easiest to break. Another vote here for nylon with puched flights. With rings, they last a long time, usually 2 sets of flights and 2 sets of rings to 1 set of shafts for me. Nylon are also cheaper than dirt.

Problem I'm having is the plastic thread bit keeps snapping when the fall to the ground and I can't remove it despite watching so many videos of how to remove it, is there a steel/aluminium thread on them that is stronger

There's a special tool you can get to remove the thread , that's still stuck in the barrel .

Would you say polycarbonate stems are lighter than basic nylon ones?
@maximusprime1809
@maximusprime1809 9 ай бұрын
Nylon and polycarbonate are very similar in weight, maybe a very minor difference but I think the feel and rigidity between them are more apparent.

I like the nitrotech, which is polycarbonate, but the flights don’t go in as far as with other shafts, which is annoying for choosing the length.

I like the (medium) RedDragon NitroTech shafts as well. Theyve been my go to for about a year now but Ive been contemplating trying something else because It still feels like Im going through flights and shafts too quickly. I probably go through a set of (RedDragon) ultra thick flights every two weeks and the aluminum flight locking tips on the NitroTech shafts get bent outward- and eventually kinda wonky. If not just individually one at a time as needed, Id say I probably go through a set every 8 weeks. However, Im not really even sure what can be considered normal/reasonable wear and tear. I throw pretty much everyday. Sometimes just an hour or two- some nights it might turn into 5+ hours.

I've found the nitrotech very hard to get the flights in to. I've had several new flights bend so badly that I just can't use them anymore

polycarbonate is the same material racing/freestyle drone props use. Same with motorcyle glasses. And... that material bends back without getting much weaker. I disagree with the fingers breaking. I am yet to see that. I would say the nylon stems are the "cheap" ones that break.

Polycarbonate is a virtually unbreakable material, so much so that it may last the longest. Even longer than aluminum shafts. Its just that its the one that looks the cheapest. Same shape but looks a bit more expensive are carbon shafts.

Yeah I was gonna mention that, polycarbonate is famously extremely tough and used for helmet vizors and riot shields

Nothing more than cheap bar darts. The dreadful one piece shaft/flight. It amazes me how if we slap a name on them and charge 5X their worth, how easily the fools run back to the horrible technology of 40 years ago. Baffling.
