I tested my game under several different scenarios playing darts with short stems vs medium. Darts training , darts stems, shafts, technique.

Ronnie. Because of you and your channel I took up playing darts again a few months back and now feel I'm in the position to challenge myself to win a local dart competition (Wiltshire) sometime in the future. BACK STORY. When I was 17 in 1983, 😂🙃I took up darts at home, inspired by Bristow on the TV. I'd never dreamed about becoming a professional darts player, playing darts was just a hobby to me. A year later, I ended up able to complete 'Around the Clock' on only doubles with just 2 or 3 missed darts on average per game. I remember feeling great at the time and thinking that maybe I could go on to achieve something in the darting world. Unfortunately, as time passed, my interest in darts dwindled (lack of competition and others to play with didn't help) and any thoughts of achieving a professional level never materialised. Thanks Ron for the work you do on here. Many darts players worldwide, will have, and will continue, to benefit from your future insights and teachings that arise from your 10K hr experiment. Good luck with all you do and please keep sharing with us all. 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻 P.S. Darting joke coming... Drum Roll .-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-. I used to be known as Mr Dartboard? What kind words! 🙌 thanks for this is very inspiring to hear it and really glad it has helped you hopefully find your passion for the game again. I have been blessed how much I was welcomed by the community so anything I can give back and help the sport grow is a bonus. I have learned that no matter what level you achieve in darts it’s important to be comfortable with your own journey with whatever they may be , I have met more content pub dart players than successful pro players which was an eye opener. My hope is that I can show a route that can help others develop and reach the end goal with the 10k experiment. But if I can’t get where I want to in the end then I will have certainly enjoyed every hour learning and giving it everything. All the best, Ronnie 💪🎯😊

Interesting results. Another piece of the puzzle that you did not really cover here is the flight. Different flight shapes and sizes will have different drag and lift. Dart length and weight also play a part, as does grip and throw. They all have an effect on how the darts fly thru the air. What dart setup works for one person may or may not work for someone else. You mentioned this a couple times and that is the important part. Each person should experiment with different setups and see what works for them. For me personally, it's easy to change the physical aspects such as flight, stem, darts. The harder part to change is my grip and throw, that only comes by spending hours at the oche.

Totally agree with this comment, short and kite is a tricky set up. I’m sure if he went short and small standard he would get a better result

i changed to short from tweenies, massive difference! was struggling with dartitus, couldnt let go, swapping and changing, nothing worked. had to change my grip and stance. went back to an old set i used when i was playing well, swapped stems and seems to be working.

I used to throw extra short (Tom thumb) stems, I shortened up my barrels from 56mm to 44 mm. I had to go up to the shorts from the extra short. And eventually up to intermediate length stems. It’s all adaptation and how your throw changes over time.

I’ve made some changes to my set up since I’ve been going through a lot of bad spells where I wasn’t playing as well as I could, since nearly Christmas time I switched to short stems from intermediate stems with a standard shape flight & then around March I switched to kite flights from my normal standard shape flight & that made a huge difference. With a standard shape flight I was throwing them quite hard & with the kite flights they go through the air quite quickly. Around September I switched my points from 40mm to 38mm and my form starting to pick up again after playing in the Haverhill competition.

How you feel bout short stems, that’s how I feel about mediums. I do use short or intermediate depending on the length of the barrel and points I’m using.

Much of the same a lot of instability for my game but everyone is different and having kite flights does make a difference to that longer stems with standard flights is similar to now

Thank you so much for the information. Unfortunately I'm having problems and I can't buy a decent dart or board... I got a chinese board with plastic darts and they're not straight... Can someone please help me out so I could build a target 🎯? Should I use styrofoam? My target 🎯 is full of little holes from the darts... I think it's made of some kind of cardboard.

i cant settle on a stem length. ive tried tracking averages and stats and it just all seems to be about the same. or i perform out of this world with mediums one night, then absolute garbage the next day. not sure what to do

Stick with one setup for a month and measure your results , then do the different set up the following month, you have to give it time as your throw will change if you practice at all, also builds confidence in a throw and set up

Been wondering for a while if it's worth repointing my darts to a bigger point. I see on tele that most if not all dart players darts don't go into the board all the way to the barrel. What's your advice?

Try throwing a similar set with longer points , it’s quite difficult for me they give a bit of instability, and even a small difference changes doubles and grouping, I would only play around with this once you can hit 180s regularly as it will just cause inconsistency from my view. But if you don’t try it you never know 😁 I would say best grouping and overall decent scoring you want the point to be in less than halfway but without fallouts. But only my opinion and what I have discovered 🙌

Great explained. I also tried a different stem length because my game is getting worse and worse. I started playing darts 3 Years ago. After a short time of training I was at a good 60 average. After a long break cause to the pandemic situation I just can’t find my game again and my average went from 60 to 40. I still don’t know why. Maybe you can help my find my game. I could send you a video of my throw, maybe you see a problem with my throw. Can you help me ?

Personally I can’t throw well with the kflex but a lot of people do and try shorter and longer see which you prefer only usually 3-5 mm difference per stem change but can feel it straight away

@RR10kTV just ordered green k flex short hopefully help my weak powered throw ,they are 8mm short than previous short mission sabre ,with flight was 70mm k flex will be 61.8mm
