My uncle got a Brand new 3.5 EcoBoost truck 2yrs ago. works it hard every day at work & has had 0zero issues with it. He tows work equipment, commutes 4hrs daily . This is out here in Northern California hott weather.

Real close to 300,000 miles on my 2013 F150 Supercrew with a 5.0. Still runs great! Had the 6R80 trans rebuilt at 220,000 miles. I replaced the timing cover gasket and water pump at 260,000 because of very small leaks and the driver side cat at 275,000. Been one of the best vehicles I have ever owned!

I've heard the 2.7 has the boost reliable engine. It has a engine block from a powerstroke and it's more compact and just overall built better. From people who have had all 3 they all like the 2.7 the most.

As an 18 year old in the field it makes me happy to see him talking to the younger guys like myself and asking their opinions which not many of my bosses have done

You should try and do another video where the Pros talk about the engines for the 250. Would like to see their impressions on the 7.3

I own a 2017 5.0, and I have had zero issues with the truck. Love it.

I would choose the 5.0 because it's a v8 and sounds great when in high rpm.

A buddy of mine has the 5.0 2014 extended cab, and I have a 2016 2.7 is a crew cab 4x4. I am an Electrical and HVAC contractor, and use my 2.7 as my daily driver, service truck, and towed up to 9K without any issues. My current setup is 6" lift, 35" tires, front and rear Fab Four bumpers, a truck cap from highway products, deck tool box, and 4:56 gears. My fuel milage is still 16-18 in the city and 20-22 highway. I am at 90K to include about 20K of that towing. I have had zero issues with it, runs like a bat out of hell. Before I had to buy diesels just to pull my trailers, but ever since these little motors came out, it hard to justify it. I am so impressed with the 2.7, I am fixing to buy 2 more, and get rid of my other 2 trucks. Business is growing, and it looks like this will be my engine of choice. My friend with the 5.0 that is in the lawn business, was freaked out how well this little motor pulls, and how fast it moves for it size. He borrowed my truck to pull his lawn trailer, because his truck was in the shop, and stated my truck felt more powerful and pulled his trailer like nothing. Being around a lot of contractors, I am seeing a lot of 2.7 and 3.5 ecoboost over the 5.0 with 150K plus miles with no issues. One guy pulls a bobcat everyday with a 3.5 ecoboost, going on 250K no issues.

It's almost 2023 - time to do this survey again - thanks for the great content! More helpful would also be specifics instead of "it's just a great engine"...as well as what issues each has.

I’m a technician, for working on it the 5.0 but for ownership I own a 3.5 eco boost

I just bought my F150, 30 days ago. Its a 2019 5.0. I love my shiny big coyote. I get better gas mileage than my chevy silverado v8. And it blows that Chevy out the water. No problems and it sounds and looks great.

Interesting that there weren’t any 3.0 powerstroke answers.

I recently bought a certified preowned 2020 with a 2.7 and I am pleasantly surprised and pleased with it, including towing.

Our family currently has three F-150's (18+), and oddly one of each engine. As much as I love the sound and smooth power delivery of the V8, it feels like your dragging bricks after driving the Turbo models. The 3.5 has a bit more punch than the 2.7, but hardly noticeable in every day driving. The 3.5 is also the only we have had a couple of minor issues with. As far as towing, it's usually the trucks Payload your going to max out before the engine HP even makes a difference. If I had to chose, it would be the 2.7. That small ecoboost mated with that 10 speed is one of the best F150 combos in decades. I'm still amazed by it. Reading the forums, it appears to be one of the most reliable as well. Even the Turbo's are holding up, a majority of these newer Ecoboosts trucks will go to the junk yard with their original turbo's in them. Though I would love to build a regular cab short box with the 5.0 as fun weekend bang around truck, but for everyday driving I'll take the 2.7.

I love the 3.5L EcoBoost. This is my second truck with the engine and it has been flawless and it gets great fuel economy and it has all the power you will need.

I just bought a 2016 XLT w/V8. LOVE IT! I've worked in service stations. If most techs prefer working on 5.0 engines, I'd rather give them one to work on. Happy mechanic, happy truck 😎👍

I can relate to that 5.0 growl. Have a 21 GT premium with active exhaust. Not only does it have a sickE amount of HP out of the box, but it's hard to beat that sound, especially when that 10 speed starts to down shift.

Exactly why I chose the 5.0 for my 2018 F-150. My cousin is a Ford Technician at Fox Ford in Traverse City, MI. He had the same recommendation for me in 2017 when I ordered the truck.

Great video! Just traded in my 2016 5.0 last week for a new 2020 5.0! great engines! Also had the 5.0 in a 2014 and the 5.4 in a 2004 model. Love the F150!

My 2017 Fx4 with 3.5 EB is my family everyday everywhere vehicle. I Love quite, don't want my truck sounding like a truck. From inside you can't hear or feel the engine running. I check the Stop - Start indicator to see if it's running. I Love this truck. My previous 2004 F150 had the 4.6 V8, no comparison. Happy with my choice.

yup, I looked especially for a 5.0 when I purchased my f-150, best engine I ever owed, reliable, has plenty of power, great fuel millage for it's size and power (the v8 coyote sound is nice, but not a factor for me). My truck is now 10 years old and has 92000 miles on it and still runs as good as the day I bought it, of course proper maintenance is key for any engine to last and that you don't beat it up to hard. I also tow a 28 foot travel trailer around with this truck, no problems at all, plenty of power when needed, truck is equipped with factory towing package. FYI: The newer f-150 with the 5.0 now come with a 10 speed transmission, mine is a 6 speed.

I’ve had the 5.0 and the 3.5 ecoboost... I don’t keep trucks more than 4 years... the ecoboost is a beast, much happier towing heavy weight and that turbo whistle is great.

V8 it’s simple longevity reliability and easier maintenance.

I bought a 2015 3.5 EcoBoost with turbos used last year. I love it. I use it for my every-day vehicle. Love the idea I can tow when I need to and get greate gas mileage.

These may be great engines but I've got a 79 300 six in a 4x4 that's got half a million miles.

I have the 3.5EB and love it, just miss the V8 with an aftermarket exhaust!

The office guy says ‘because we see a lot of problems with the 5.0’ and the techs say they don’t see a lot of 5.0’s ‘back here’ - very strange.

I have a 2015 2.7 EcoBoost with 113,000 miles and had no issues with the engine ( Door latches on the other hand but won’t get into that) I use full synthetic and change the oil about every 6k miles. I also pull my camper with it as well with no issues.

Had a 3.5 excellent motor, my dad has a 5.0 I absolutely love it. I went on and bought a 2018 5.0.

5.0 for me I love the sound and the ability to modify and make great power wether it be supercharged or turbocharged

I got the 2018 3.5 Ecoboost!! Its so fun! Never had driven a forced induction engine and when I test drove it I fell for it. So far so good. Love when the turbo hits. Gotta give it the old Italian Tune up once in a while.

5.0 every time. We have had two and a mustang with it. Previously had the thunderbird as well in it. A beast of a motor! Easy to work on and rebuild. Love it.

FWIW, I have a 2011 F-150 with the EcoBoost, first year. 186K miles. I'm happy with it, no plans on getting rid of it any time soon. I get anywhere from 15-16.5 MPG, but don't drive hardly any highway or more open roads. It happens to be a max tow version, but I don't really tow with it at all, at least not anymore. When I got it, camper and horse trailers were towed around a bit, but those have gone in more recent years.

I've leased 3 F150's since 2013. The first was a 5.0, the second was a 2.7 eb and currently driving a 3.5 eb. I have loved them all. The only reason I'm driving the 3.5 is because I tow a 7500 lb camper. If I weren't, I'd definitely go back to the 5 liter...that truck was a lot of fun, but I must say that the eb pulls my camper up some pretty steep hills without breaking a sweat.

I’ve always been a V-8 guy but I chose the 3.5 Eco for my first F150 new 2019. It pulls my boat like it’s not even there. Surprisingly quick, and incredible gas mileage. No issues whatsoever ... not a drop of oil consumed. For me it was a great choice. There’s no right or wrong engine - comes down to what you need ... that’s what’s great about the F150 - it’s not a one size fits all truck.

I went the 3.0 liter Diesel in my 2018 and I am still impressed with truck. My truck just rolled over 23,000 miles and on my last tank of fuel, I averaged 31 miles per gallon! That was better than my Taurus! Ford built a full size truck able to pull more than 10k lbs and get the mileage of a compact car! Keep up the good work Ford!

I was going for a V8 F150 2019. But after trying the 3.5 twin turbo I was sold. HP plus torque plus towing plus gas mileage I was sold and I bought it.

The technician @2:50 mark knows exactly what he’s talking about. I’ve heard the same issues with the 5.0 and 3.5 from a lot of people. Which is why I bought a 2018 F-150 xlt/fx4 package, with the 2.7 twin turbo. Supercrew, 4x4, 3.73 rear axle ratio, 5.5ft bed. I have more than enough power to pull all my equipment and get excellent mpg. Summer time I average 21-22mpg and winter I average 19-20mpg and that’s with idling my truck for 15-30 minutes and driving in 4x4 a lot where I live. Has 138,000 miles. The only problem I had was number 4 cylinder miss fire- check engine light, because it had the original spark plugs, I replaced all spark plugs($60) at 130,000 miles, and code went away. And then at 135,000 I had a check engine light for PCV pressure sensor, replaced it ($25) and check engine light has never came back. Currently has 138,000 miles. I use amsoil XL 5w-30 and change oil and filter every 6,000 miles. I know I could probably go 12,000 miles like it says, but I do it myself and get discounts on the oil, so why not. Hands down I’d buy a new F-150 with the 2.7 twin turbo again. Also I live where they use salt on the roads and I have ZERO rust on the body and barely any on the frame. Hope this truck lasts me for 200k-300k miles.

Two months ago, I purchased an F150 5.0 V8 based on a similar video. At 2,800 miles, the oil level was almost to the end of the dip stick. It was full of course when I bought it. I searched the internet, and read that a lot of folks are having oil consumption issues with the 5.0. The mechanics wanted to do an oil consumption test. The dealership worked with me, and I traded it in for a 3.5L EcoBoost.

I love the honesty from the guys at the dealership!

I have a 5.0 in my ‘86 F-150. And I bought it brand new, single owner vehicle. Its been good to me.

So I’ve had no oil consumption with my 17 5.0 still running strong with 70000 km. And the sound of a 8 cylinders is just like rock and roll!!

Wow. I own a 2018 Platinum 3.0 diesel and love it. Great torque and terrific mpg. No love at all from your staff. I guess not enough of them sold to get familiar with.

I’ve been a collision tech at a ford dealership since 2011. Seeing what I see, and talking with the techs, I’d take a 5.0 any day.

I went to the dealership specifically to buy the 5.0......ended up with the 3.5 EB and LOVE it. Damn it’s fast and fun to drive!

I've got a 2015 never had a problem with my 5.0,I love it.

The 5.0 sounds great and seems dependable for sure but the 3.5 is just a fun engine to drive all around. Low end torque is awsome where the 5.0 lacks. My choice would be the 3.5 then the 5.0.

Gotta love the way that nobody seems to remember that the 3.3L V6 exists. That's the engine I have in my 2019 F-150. I'm the kind of person who will drive the same truck for 10+ years if I can, and I don't trust that those turbos in the EcoBoost engines will last over the long haul. The 3.3L V6 is a great way to get a naturally aspirated engine in a truck that won't break the bank. It might not be the best for hauling, but I don't need it for that. I'm just a big guy who wanted a daily driver I could comfortably sit in.

Awesome video. You guys definitely need to do this video again every 2 years or so since opinions and technology is always changing. I’ve been a ford man all my life. Personally all 3 are great engines imo Iv driven them all. But to me if you are going to only keep the truck for 2-4 years go eco boost, within that little time you won’t see any of the issues that they develop with age. If your going to keep the truck over 4 years or over 150k miles then go 5.0 they have much longer problem free life spans. Or if your a motor head then go 5.0 as well it has much more potential for making power with upgrades. But as with anything mechanical just remember they will always give problems at some point regardless of which engine you go with. Nothing is perfect because everything is built by the hands of imperfect people.

I bought one of the last 5.4 Tritons made in 2010. Been a great engine, absolutely no problems , 120,000 miles and I expect many many more. I would keep it simple again and go with the 5.0. Less plumbing, fewer things to go wrong. You will be happy with any one of them, they are all great engines.

I was out in the desert yesterday and there were guys with 500 hp Ecoboost, heavily modified, raptors tearing up the dunes. It was pretty awesome to see. There weren't any 5.0 f150s. Out here guys with 6.2 raptor are getting rid of them for the Ecoboost version.

2015 5.0 here. Love my truck. I can make it sound scary if I want. On dry roads anyway.

I have the 3.5 ecoboost, it’s been proven reliable for 9 years now

I have a 1998 F-150 5.4L V8 with mods (198K miles), 1993 Cobra Mustang 5.0 V8 with mods (140K), 2005 F-150 5.4 V8 with mods (300K), and 2020 Expedition 3.5L EB (13K). For traveling or just cruising around town I have truly enjoyed the performance and fuel economy of the 3.5L EB. Even though I am a V8 person, I have now switched over to the LIGHT of the V6 performance of EB.

I LOVE my 2011 F150 (Super Crew w/Long Bed) and it's 5.0! No, it's not a newer truck but I've only had normal maintenance with it. My husband laughs at me because I love to step in it hear the "pipe" haha He like's the room under the hood for him to do the maintenance (he's a licensed mechanic). I plan on having that truck for many more years.

3 years 50k on my Trump Red STX 2.7, 20.4 mpg in town, ain’t going say it’s better than a 5.0 or 3.5, but it is soooo good and will bust 5.3’s and 5.7’s at the lights all day long, if Grammy ain’t riding shotgun; she’s Penticostal and Jesus and her frown on that sort of thing. Great video!
