I always thought that the T-clamp was the king of hose clamps. After seeing how much better Norma hose clamps work and how little space they require, I changed my mind.

You're right. Norma clamps are especially beneficial when you have fluids under pressure.

T- bolt clamps were originally designed by and used in the aviation industry. The clamp is designed to eliminate the crushing forces you get from a worm gear style clamp. Because the tubes/ hoses they secure in A/C are clamped onto very thin aluminum, stainless or fiberglass parts. And are typically not under high pressure or used for fluids. This is why you had so many leaks in your system. No matter how tight you go on the nut the clamp is only going to clamp the amount it was designed to. On the aviation version they have a torque value stamped on the clamp band.

wow, just awesome to read a reply with substance!! I used to assist engine changes on F-15/F-16 and I saw the t-clamps mostly on ECS ductwork...interesting

The "Norma" hose clamps are actually designed for silicone hoses. The regular screw clamps will cut the silicone hose and cause the hose to fail. This style of hose clamp is available from multiple manufactures.

This guy is so right. All my made in China T bolt clamps leak. Those OEM Norma style clamps are consistent.

Learn something new everyday. Regularly used the "SS. T" clamps in semi hazardous industrial liquid applications (always double clamped) however never in an auto project. Also, have never seen these "Norma" glorified screw clamps before, makes sense though. Thanks

Thank you, for letting us know! I was planning to buy the T-Bolt ones. European cars use the Norma style...

You need constant tension hose clamps. The spring type used by OEM's are the best... and surprisingly cheapest too. You can of course go for constant tension worm drives too but those are really expensive. The reason is because hoses expand / shrink with temperature fluctuations and loosen over time.
@KaTooMaz Жыл бұрын
Not sure why someone so 'automotive smart' would not be using constant tension clamps for anything that changes temperature(expands/contracts). Makes me think maybe I'm missing something or my whole mindset regarding clamps has always been wrong.
@bugguy19673 жыл бұрын
Norma was used by OE VW too. The manifold boot clamps!
@JohnReynolds6613 жыл бұрын
Maybe the axle boot clamps too? There are probably other clamps that work well too but the point is T-bolt clamps are my least favorite option.

Awesome video!!! Exactly what I was looking for. The T Bolt clamps look nice, but I wanted the meat and potatoes; which one worked better. Thank you for making this video. 👍

those Norma clamps come in Mercedes Benz for over 20 years they are the best and do not pinch the hose
@jimmartin78813 жыл бұрын
Don't use a 2 inch clamp on 1.5 inch tubing, that amount of deformation is from improper sizing and not reading the torque specs on the clamp. In 25 years I've never had a T-clamp failure and that's on high performance OTR and marine diesels.
@whiteboyduke54463 жыл бұрын
You convince me to purchase some Normas clamps. 30 clamps for $45 from Amazon. I'm about to use silicon hoses for my SRT-10 Ram.
@reyalPRON3 жыл бұрын
these clamps are far cheaper too, can use on cufflinks for steering drivrshafts too. do remember to angle it its easy to tighten and also for neatness sake trim the excess band and sand it a little to smooth the cut. it spares knuckle skin
@coleboonecustoms3 жыл бұрын
That's surprising. I wonder if the worm gear type is also better than the clamps you would find on a stock early 70s Chevelle, where the screw is actually perpendicular to the clamp.
@fahisaurus2 жыл бұрын
The best reusable/removable hose clamps are Breeze constant torque clamps. Smooth band so it doesn't extrude the hose material and is compatible with silicone. Belleville spring to allow for constant torque regardless of temperature. Gates PowerGrip SB are the best, but one time use only.
@reyalPRON3 жыл бұрын
the truth. simple as that. i came to to the same conclusion years ago when i had to replace both plenum an manfold .. these norma's are also sold under many names cross the world. they are identical though
@reyalPRON3 жыл бұрын
there is third option not on this list too. the springsteel keyring looking clamps that tough as nails to compress to fit on. but they do if u got the gauge right fit much more even pressure than loop or pin clamps. they are often sold and used with washingmschines. i never saw this on car before in my life until i fitted one to Renault clio 2006 radiator.. it was what was available in hands reach at the time. Still sits on the sam running car today

You used the wrong size clamp. Those clamps are fine but require more accurate sizing than worm clamps

not the wrong clamp, just the wrong size clamp. jubilee style are more flexible in that respect. also not sure if t-bolts are supposed to handle huge pressures.

T-clamps are not suitable for automotive , they low pressure and are normally used for water , chemical and oil tanks on the main feed into a pump , you can have some success in auto but you will find them on air intakes and the filler hose on fuel tanks well thats how I've been using them for the last forty years....
@apacalyptic1freelancevideo823 Жыл бұрын
none of those. constant tension clamp . issue solved
@petehalasz7547 Жыл бұрын
No offense but t-clamps are only for hydraulics or high pressure hoses with usually thick walls.also any clamps but especially T- clamps are diameter specific,, they will have numbers of diameters,,, 80mm to 90 mm max. best clamps but never used on automotive.. zebra clamps or tridons are okay,, but if you want the look and permanent clamps,, buy specific crimp type, such fuel lines,, a pain but the best,, also not reusable.. easy to remove but have to replace everytime.. but no screws and very clean look..
