I tend to hold my hook like a pencil, and I have been eyeing the Furls hook for some time. I had been wondering about the contour of the handle and you have answered my question. Thank you for saving me some money. ;)

I am a pencil grip crocheter. I prefer tapered hooks. I do find it a bit hard to work with furl hooks. Love that furls hook though. It is so beautiful and my birthday sign. Thank you for review.

Divit Shilp is a great substitute for Furls! I found them on Amazon!! I like bigger hooks to work with so I lean towards a furls like hooks......they haven't done a Cancer one yet!! Mine didn't have as much purple in the hook either!! True yarn addict here!! Thank you Left-handed holders!!

I used to use Susan Bates or Boye for everything. Then I started having problems with my hands, shoulders, and back when I was crocheting too long. I tried the ergonomic Bates and Boye hooks but didn't like the Boye hooks because after awhile the rubber part started sliding down. I then tried the Yarnology hooks from Hobby Lobby and the Bates with the wooden handles. But after trying a Clover Amour much preferred them. I now have some Furls Streamline Swirls and Furls Odyssey and LOVE using them partially because my husband got them for me for Christmas in 2019 and our anniversary (30th) in January of 2020 just 4 days before he passed away from cancer. I have found that which hook I use depends on my project and the yarn I am using.

Thanks for your review on crochet hooks. I just saw the Ommi hook and was questioning whether to get it quick or add to my collection from the reviews and continue to try them out. Well, some of my new projects are varying and I've learnt how to re-crochet like you from KZfaq, I did do a little in junior high school. I actually just saw the Ommi hook on Amazon just strolling and didn't have much interest really from the furl hooks. With your review, I will order one and try it out.

Hi Mel! Thank you for this hook review. I have two Furls resin hooks, and one Furls Odessy. I have a full set of Tulip Etimo, and they are the hooks I use most (knife grip). I also have a full set of The Crochet Lite hooks, the ones that light up. I don't use the lights, but I do like the handles, and the hooks just slide right through the yarn.💖🤗

The wood furls streamline are good also and are lighter than the resin. I like my wooden one better in the larger size hooks because of this. Also glide a little better. But of course I had to get the pretty colors in the smaller sizes . I only have 3 so far, can't wait to add to my set. That said these are my secondary choice of hooks

Hi, I forgot to add. As you stated Susan Bates hooks are great for beginners and a good choice economically . I taught a little class and these were my choice for my students. I prefer using Susan Bates ergonomic when working with cotton. IMO better glide and easier to get in the stitch with the point. I find if you crochet a lot having different types of hooks for various yarns really helps.

That is SO true. For most projects I prefer to have NO drag on my hook - but there are some when having a little drag is a good thing (especially with more complex stitchery)

I like Susan bates because I like the deep throat. But I think they’re phasing out. It’s getting harder to find them. Susan bated was recently bought out by Yarnspirations.

I've found that Boye hooks have suffered in quality the last several years, and you're right, SB hooks are getting harder to find. I have 3 sets of them and a few additional sizes that I use off and on, and since they went from being made in Mexico to being made in India (probably a change that came with the parent company) they aren't as nice either. I hoard my older hooks like a troll now! But I admit, I do love my Tulip Etimo hooks as well.

Here's a thing about Furls resin: If you tend to drop your hooks and you have hard floors they are easily broken. I'm older so dropping my hook on the floor once in awhile is a thing for me. It's pretty disappointing to drop your hook and have the head break off. Susan Bates has been my go-to for over 40 years. If you like the Furls and the shape then I've found the Odyssey much more durable. The camwood in particular in the wood Streamlines you can wear the hook down. I have a Furls camwood in an H that is now the size of an F after a couple of queen size blankets in worsted. I crochet quite a bit so if you don't need the durability then the weight of the wood Furls Streamline is nice.

Oh and just another thing, I have always heard how great the Etimo (Tulip) hooks were so decided to try them out of curiosity. The hook part is more like a Boye but the ergonomic handle is very much nicer than the Susan Bates or Boye hooks. It has a wider place to rest your thumb or fingers when crocheting and the rubber handle is much softer than the Susan Bates. These hooks are about 1/4 - 1/2 inch shorter than the Clover Amour set but work very much like them except the head has more of a point. For tunisian crochet, I have sets of interchangeable hooks in the Addi, Lykke (my favorite wood set) and ChiaoGoo. As you can tell, I have quite a collection of crochet hooks and my knitting needles are the same way. (So are my knitting looms.)

It is April 21, 2022: Furls Streamline Swirls is priced at $24, their wooden Streamline hooks are $18.50 All Furls hooks are hand turned and no two hooks will look the same. That is the beauty of their resin hooks, it’s like a box of chocolates, you never know what gorgeous sweet your going to get 🥰🧶 I have a dog and a cat and both want my attention as well when I am crocheting. The hook comes out and here they come: Adonis (dog) with like 5 toys in his mouth, and Bennie (cat) is trailing him to come sit in my lap…on TOP OF MY CROCHET 🤦🏽‍♀️🤣🤣

I disagree.. ThevSusan Bates SOFT is very comfortable ,mand the thinner handle is nice. I have very small hands, so that might make a difference..,but…inthunkmthevSOFTBiscworth the extra money.
