Hey Ben! Great video. I loved seeing all those sources compared. I stream the “high end” Spotify from a 40th Anniversary Walkman thru an FX Audio DAC into my Sansui A-60 amplifier and I think I can hear a VERY slight loss compared to my NAD CD but it’s really a paper-thin difference…the convenience of being able to use the Walkman as a remote control for songs and volume is totally worth it to me! Keep up the great videos!

Thanks Phil! I will say Spotify is seemingly the best lossy service… I’m an Amazon HD guy… However, I am also known to transcribe my albums to 24/96 FLAC and stream them from my Plex server… all about convenience on the go… But I am always amused at how much music comes out of the microscopic rock and plastic circles… the fact that we can even see similar results based on that vs the bit perfect 1’s and 0’s world still blows my mind 😀

Well done comparison. When you consider that many people are streaming music to a phone via Cell data and then transmitting and receiving the signal via Bluetooth headphones and speakers, It a wonder the music is recognizable at all. Thanks for the video. New sub from KY.

Oh I get that… but many of carry our own headphone amps and cans on planes 😳 And in my case generally to a DAC on a car… lots of different use cases… thanks for subscribing and for the candor! Hope you enjoy the channel!

It’s interesting that the lossy compression formats are also using the louder, more dynamically compressed masters. Maybe it’s because they figure that people who are OK with the more lossy formats are fine with what is now the “loudness war” trend, and the people who would seek out lossless formats would better appreciate the original dynamics of the recording. I don’t know, just a guess.
