XE-1(XTrans1) for monochrome, XT-1(XTrans2) for color … JPGs via manual lenses. Like old days with Tri-X and Kodachrome… without the wait/$. 😎

Try shooting the XTrans II (X-T1 in my case) in monochrome with the ISO set at 4000 - that's a sweet spot for really beautiful, film like, black and white images.

I just took my X-T1 with the 35/1.4, set it to F2 and B&W because I missed the mono-chrome bit, 4000 ISO and wow, 3 shots of my kids, the result ( on the rear LCD at least ) looked amazing. Thanks for recommending this, I will try mono-chrome later, it’s Christmas decorations time now, the kids will lynch me if the house isn’t ready for Santa by tonight 😁

That’s interesting because people complain of waxy skin at high ISOs on XTrans II. But maybe you’re not doing people shots? Personally I never had a problem with the X100S or T (I also recently picked up the XT1 but haven’t shot people with it yet).

I agree with being a generalist photographer, because working in several areas was what helped me during the pandemic, the movement decreased, but I continued to do product photography, while some colleagues who did and only do events were out of work.

I’ve just picked up an X-E1 and I think it’s a great little camera, esp for B&W. I’ve an XT-3 but not my favourite by a long way.

i have an xt2 and use it for street with slr lenses adapted its amazingly discrete for street my recomendation is also tape up your logos

Thanks! I'm not sure Fuji sensors are made by Sony. They might be manufactured by Sony but as far as I know Fuji made their own sensors based on film and their long experience in that field. The output anyway is very different, especially in low light, the colours, the texture and the look are quite different. The latest version is obviously better overall and cleaner and I love my X-Pro3 and X100V and it still has character, something I didn't notice with Sony sensors that are closer, in my opinion, to Canon and perfect for video but kinda flat for stills. Now when I need inspiration I pick up my X-Pro1 and capture images in b&w or my X100 and I'll never get rid of these camera for the same reasons you mentioned. I really appreciate your videos, you nail what really matters so thanks again! Cheers!

oh yeah, output is completely different. I'm not sure how it works, but I know that Sony produce them for Fujifilm. Totally agree about the X-Pro 1. It's the special one! Am making a short film celebrating it right now...will be out this Friday.

Classic Chrome is also my fav and I think many Fuji shooters. A lot of the Fuji X Weekly recipes are just iterations built off CC so I'm sure you'll like them. It just gives you 7 more new options to play around with at a time on your camera outside of the built in standard ones. Anyways, I liked your video and subscribed to your channel!

X-T2 is more than enough to be discrete for street photography. I even used it with my XF 16-80mm on streets in my POV videos.

Do you mean discreet? The X-T2 is an interchangeable lens camera, so not a discrete system.

I bought a Hasselblad/Fujifilm XPan to shoot panoramic film and went out today to shoot. I took along an inexpensive X-T1 w/adapted 24mm Nikon lens to shoot alongside it, so I would have some immediate shots from the day. Ended up not taking the XPan out of my bag. LOL. Looking up X-Pro 1s on eBay now (always regretted selling that one).

Re your point about the latest sensors being too perfect and taking away the soul of the photo, that's where the film simulation recipes come in, regardless of whether it's an old camera or a new one. We can adjust certain elements to accentuate colours or grain or whatever to breathe life back into the moment: the focus of the image becomes more obvious or the colours become more pleasing or we intentionally blow the shadows away, etc. Doesn't actually matter of it's the latest sensor. The point here, of course, is an older Fuji with film simulation mode can do all of that too

I think the reason people regret selling older cameras is because people are sentimental about gear. They feel fondly for gear theyve used for ages , thus regret selling it

Thanks!!! I am thinking about selling my x-t100 and buying the old x-e1, I like the rangefinder style (EVF is in a tragic position on x-t100 for me) and simplicity. I can’t help but something is missing from images that x-t100 with the Bayer sensor produces, like it’s missing its soul or that good Juju. I don’t even use touch tilting screen, so what do you think? Should I sell it and buy x-e1?

First Fuji was the xtrans 3 in the x-t20 and I didn't enjoy it, went back to m43 after that. Was able to try the XE1 some years later and although I liked the look I didn't enjoy the performance even though I mostly shoot in manual focus. Just recently got my hands on a X-T10 with the Xtrans 2 and within 3 test shots I was in love. the look of the jpegs and the RAW files are "modernly filmic". I previous didn't enjoy my girlfriend's 25mm 7artisans on her XT100 but on my X-T10 it's my main lens right beside the Fuji 35mm f2. I haven't tried the XTrans 4 yet and I seem to enjoy what I'm seeing SOOC on that sensor but I don't think I'll ever get rid of the XT10 unless I finally try the XE2 and enjoy it more.

To David Taylor on the last question, the full quote you referred to is actually : “A jack of all trades is a master of none, but often times better than a master of one” Better to have experience of many disciplines than just one, makes you a better more rounded photographer hopefully enabling you to react better to changing situations 👍

I had the X-E1 eith the X Trans 1 sensor but sold it becauae its just lainful to use due to the autofocus. I have the X-T10 and X-T1 with the X Trans 2 sensor and the X-T2 with the X Trans 3 sensor. For me the X-T2 is an amazing camera for the price and the sensor is the sweet spot.

I have a feeling that any new Fuji sensors with a high MP count will be based on the Bayer design. If you want character and flaws and soul, get a film camera. 😛

The sensors, are designed by Fujifilm, and build by Sony, it is not a Sony sensor at all.

imho, the best compromise between performance and character might be the X-Trans II The X-Trans 1 is often very difficult to work when it comes to autofocus while there have been much more improvements on the cameras using the X-Trans II (maybe that's down to a CPU thing more than a sensor thing, but hey what difference does it make?) I would say that if you want a bit more resolution the X-Trans III is a very good choice as well but I'd personally stay away from the X-Trans IV as it is generally pretty expensive and the color profiles went a little more in line with the competition from Sony and Canon. And despit being back side illuminated, the low light performance and noise reduction isn't better than on the X-Trans III so um... I'd say X Trans II for character, X-Trans III for affordable performance, X-Trans 1 is a bit too old at this point for me, and X-Trans 4 is too expensive anyway

I am selling my x-H1, I have sold, x-t2, x-t3, x-e3.. I still have my first Fuji, the x-e2s snd i shoot it with old Minolta,panted, and Canon lenses via adaptors . I love the X-trans 1 sensor on my x-e2s snd the images produced with vintage manual focus lenses. They are amazing !

X-T3 and X-T4 good looking cameras? Nup. I just bought into the Fuji system with the X-E4 but steered clear of the X-T series because of look. While I’ve been shooting with traditional SLRs like Pentax MX for over 30 yrs I’ve watched the Fuji attempts to do retro with the X-T series for years yet styling wise I think they’ve missed the mark. They try to look retro traditional but that’s exactly what they look like - trying to do retro traditional. I think however they’ve done a great job with with the X-E series and X-Pro
