Hello, my friends!
I received a lot of questions about Peltier modules, especially about the TEC1-12706 type, which is actually the least efficient.
But which is the best one? In this episode I will test a few Peltier modules to find out.
A big THANK YOU to all my patrons, especially to: Max Rice, techge and Anthony Ortenzi.

Thanks for the great video with detailed comparisons. I am making a small (5l) 12v cooler/chiller for my motorcycle trips as I could not find anything remotely suitable. As I am looking to have a compact design within the wall of the cooler, your video has reminded me that I need to allow for condensation dripping off cooled element.

What you're seeing is the effect of joule heating. Basically you were able to manage the hot side of smaller peltiers better because heatsinks were larger in proportion. 06 is not rubbish. It has to be planned & executed properly.

Thank you - it would have been nice to see how warm the large heat sync was getting. Liquid cooling would have significantly improved this test.

@@RCToys09 I guess there's a reason why the manufacturer make different types with different price or costing. I bet it not only related with size but also with quality. Using liquid cooling required more electricity as input. So if using same input give different output then we can conclude which is more efficient.

Thanks for taking the time to explain to us the difference. I am pretty sure that the 4-5-6 didn't perform as well as the 3, only because it didn't reach the appropriate amp. to perform 100%. On the other hand, to get -20C with only 38 Watts of energy is fantastic! Exactly what I am looking for. Thanks

@@FHDesert It does reach the maximum amp. but his cooler is not good enough to remove 72W plus the amount of heat energy from the little cold Radiator. So the hot side gets hotter as it should. That follows that the cold side doesnt get as cold as when he used the 12703

I'm doing something similar! But with a pillow. How many are you using, you'd need a lot to make any sort of difference even in a tiny personal fan. And you'd have to vent the heat elsewhere or else the net difference is just heating up the room! I'd be interested in seeing your creation.

Please do another video like this one, but in the next video, apply heat & determine which module produces the most electrical power when you use the optimal heating for each module design. From what I see online, the TEC1-12706 can produce 57W at 50C, which is 1.425W/mm2. That means ~702 of the TEGs could produce 1 kW of power with an input heat of 50C

Test is very good, but only for this size of radiator. If u get bigger radiator with better cooling , u get better results on more power peltier module. so this test is only for this small radiator on hot side.😊
@Schrimpieman
@Schrimpieman Жыл бұрын
Quite similar as to what I was thinking. Smallest-size peltier (12704) performed "best" compared to the group because of its smallest physical size in proportion to the (heat) radiator. Increasing the cooling capacity (ie: Larger radiator or more fan cooling) in proportion to wattage output needs to be considered to make a fair comparison.

@RCToys09
@RCToys09 Жыл бұрын
Repeat the test and track the temp of the large heat sync. You will find that the large heat sync can't keep up with the heat generated by the larger peltier, and it will be hotter with the 12705 than with the 12703. This explains why the temp was greater at 60 minutes than at 30 minutes - the ambient temp of the heat sync rose. A peltier is designed to create a thermal difference between the hot and cold side of the peltier. The colder the hot side is, the colder the cold side will be. For air cooling, the 12703 is better. With liquid cooling, the 12705 will remove more heat than the 12703.

I am finding in my own testing that this is making a big difference in temperatures I am measuring on the cold side. I changed thermal paste on a peltier/heatsink module that I had purchased and the temperature I was measuring was at least 7 degrees C warmer than it was before the paste change.

I built an ice chest air conditioner. At bottom of cooler is ice cold water and a bed of 20lbs of ice Sitting on a wire frame. Just over the ice layer is an internal lid effectively separating the ice chamber from the air intake chamber. 2 radiators ; one is for intake air the other is for the precooled air blower fan. My question requires your expert peltier knowledge. Cam I usea few peltiers to create a mini freezer keep ice colder longer or make circulating water even colder with salt? I'm concerned about cooling the hot side without heating my ice water. Thank you for your channel and all you do to help us

Least efficient at cooling would likely be best for heating. Peltiers move heat from one side to the other but in doing so they convert a lot of the input electricity to heat which goes out the hot side. In other words they put a lot more energy out the hot side than they take in the cold side.

It depends on the thickness of the wires. I suggest you use separate wires for each module, or use a 2.5mm2 wire for all of them.
