I purchased a C40, and my reasons were different from the features covered in this video. I ordered on-line with a definite delivery time and no markup over MSRP. Communication from Volvo Cars USA throughout the delivery process was excellent. I will also benefit from a federal tax refund. All those characteristics are becoming more difficult to find but can be extremely rewarding. Also I now have Apple CarPlay running on my C40! It works great!

I have a C40 too and the Dealer/manufacturer experience was the reason I got this over the Kia. I will say I am very pleased with the regular OTA software updates. The most recent one gave us Carplay and updated the drivetrain to improve range. I am getting another 10 or so highway miles from it.

My husband loves his P2 for the faster acceleration, better handling and compact size. He says it’s the best bmw 3 series he’s had. However it’s loud, inefficient and lacks range. We only use it for local drives. We take my Ioniq 5 for road trips bc it’s a much better ev w longer range, MUCH faster charging and quieter ride.

I own a C40. My neighbour bought an EV6. I like the look of the EV6…BUT build quality of the volvo is light years ahead of Kia. My other car is a Kia Soul EV, and after 3 years it’s a plastic rattle box. I love the volvo…I’d buy it again in a heart beat

Volvo build quality? You gotta be kidding me? Volvo have some of the most unreliable track record on the car industry. Also, you can't compare an entry level car like the Soul to the EV6. Soul is a $25K car. You're going to get some rattling. The ONLY thing Volvo has over the EV6 is Safety...and that's a big maybe. Otherwise, EV6 wins in virtually every category outside of off roading, which nobody in their right mind would do in these cars.

The EV6 is a strong rival to Model 3 and Model Y. it would be my choice right now in the GT-Line AWD trim or even the Wind. I'd back-uff the Teslas based on price and lack of tax incentive on top of that. Model 3 RWD is compelling, but Wind trim makes more sense, even if the platform isn't quite as efficient or lightweight. The EV6 makes me look forward to the future and to the next gen of platforms to follow.

Definitely my EV6 AWD fully loaded is after comparing the best choice and plays in another league than Volvo still legacy design. Charging with 800 Volts like Porsche Taycan and Audi GT e-tron most features of a Tesla Y and suspension dampers same as used in Mercedes AMG and Maserati so far. This car definitely challenges even double price EQE Mercedes but drives better, has silent A/C and only rear wheel steering is missing. The air suspension on my comparison drive was not remarkably different. Volvo was not to compare to both other cars and do not forget that Albert Biermann for 30 years boss of BMW M Sports was responsible for the EV6 handling and on narrow mountain roads with many curves the Kia seems one class smaller. With Volvo I had no advantage there with the little more power. Since May I drive with a max. of 14,8 to 16,8 kWh per 100 km. Highways here max. 120 km/h. Regen is better than Mercedes EQE and Volvo and perfectly adjustable. After all, most serious competition here cost 10‘000 to 65‘000 CHF more and as a business and private car decision is easy made. Kia offers 7 years of warranty and Mercedes, Audi and Volvo.😎✌️

Ordered my C40 after I also tested Polestar 2, EV6 and Ioniq 5. Found Kia/Hyundai too "plasticky"; the handling of the menus (and the position of the screen) are seriously complicated and inconvenient, esp. while driving, and all the warning beepings and flashy animations were just plain annoying. Whereas in the C40 it's very smooth, simple and easy to use, no drive modes or recouperation modes I will rarely use anyway. Simplicity as a design choice. Build and quality is also better on the C40, and 10 inch is a LOT of unneccessary space/length if you don't have a family. C40 might be a bit more pricey, but it's a CAR, not a computer/gadget/tablet on wheels (THEMES for the speedometer? why would I need that?). And the "homey"-feeling is far superior when you get into the C40 (btw, also much better than Polestar 2). So you might get used to the Koreans, but C40 felt "right" on first entry. Plus, as others have mentioned below, Apple Carplay is now available in the C40, they do monthly OTA-updates - a feat the Kia/Hyundai can't even do to this day, afaik. Btw, efficiency also gets increased with OTA, some users report ~300 miles with a full charge by now on the C40.

Volvo is direct sales. So you don't have to worry about dealers. I think this is very fair. Volvo is an older design and shows it. It's not a ground-up EV and shows it. Volvo needs to get the noise level down as does Polestar. Volvo has a European ride but it can also be a bit more supple in some ways. I'm a Volvo owner but I think the EV6 is the better buy here. Volvo's next-gen needs to come out. Their current gen EVs are showing their non-EV roots. Kia is knocking out home runs and is a very exciting brand to watch.

Volvo dealers are not polestar dealers, so that is correct that you cannot buy a polestar at a Volvo dealer. However all polestar dealers are franchise dealers, they’re not direct sales. The only franchise dealers that were eligible to buy a polestar franchises were existing Volvo dealers however. That was necessary because all vehicle servicing happens at a Volvo dealer for both brands. Anything you have heard different than this either does not apply to the North American market, or was incorrect

one of the things most miss on the Volvo/Polestar EV's is the reason they are heavier, it isn't because the C40 is a similar platform to a gas car. It is actually because the battery is fully modular, each section can be removed and replaced individually. To me this is HUGE, yes it helps with better vertical legroom but also if anything goes wrong with the battery or if you are in an accident they can just remove the battery pack module that is damaged. I found out this is why my insurance on my Polestar 2 is so inexpensive, my agent said any Tesla is basically totaled in any accident because of the battery pack's lack of modularity.

Of the 2 I'd take the Kia EV6. Pluses are extra room, faster charging, longer range, efficiency, and the massive dual screens. I would choose it despite the mode button HVAC to entertainment switch and lack of navigational help in charging info. An app can correct that somewhat, but I would have preferred it to be built-in. Even so, I like the Kia better.

You and many other reviewers have noted repeatedly that using the switchable infotainment/climate controls on the EV6 can be a nuisance when using a control knob because the knob's function switches back and forth. I suggest you might try setting the default of the infotainment/climate controller as shown on page 5-77 of the EV6 owners manual. That way the control knobs will more consistently have the same function (unless you just recently changed it).

Never had so far any problems but I am 173 cm and weight 70 kg, I am a smaller person and I do not need to place my hand on the center console to adjust A/C and Radio etc. I just have it right on the steering wheel. The ‚problem’ is a created one and does not exist for real owners that daily drive this car and had many premium brands before, stealing our money for high service costs like BMW, Mercedes, Volvo. So for me and my wife with 152 cm the car, view, seats, haptic feel, material choice is just different from the old fashioned rest. While the displays are to deep for us in a Volvo, in a Mercedes EQE in sunshine there is a catastrophe. And all the ugly fingerprints everywhere. And also our intelligent HUD you cannot get from Tesla, even for money. The frunk on my EV6 holds a 5 meter cable and the Vehicle to Load plug. The Mercedes, BMW or VW and Audi have none. Here the Volvo builds unnecessary for good drag higher than what would be perfect for an EV. In Germany for long distance travel Kia got the highest index ever of 1,03, EQS 0,92, BMW iX O,91, same as 2022 Hyundai, Porsche Taycan 0,90, Audi e-tron 55 quattro 0,63, Polestar 2LR single motor 0,73. Tesla Y LR was at 0,74 and to compare a VW ID.4 0,57. Tesla has theoretically the highest charge rate with 250 kW (Kia ,only‘ 240 kW max. and stays high a longer period than most. The Tesla on supercharger had 146 kW average only. (Source P3 Charging Index study, not falsified by drivers with a lead foot on the accelerator). This and foresight while driving, climate even set to 21 centigrades is key for any EV.😎🤓😜✌️

Great review again , I have gone with Volvo C40 , which has now got Apple CarPlay a couple of days ago , 1 big point you overlooked and for me was a big plus for the Volvo is the electric towing hitch just press the button in the rear trunk and out it comes , the Kia is very awkward to put in and you have to get on your knees to fit the the socket , the Volvo socket is on the tow ball so very easy to fit . Yes the range in the Kia is better so that was a concern with Volvo , but the biggest factor for me over the Kia well it just looks so much nicer and has the heritage to back it up.

Great review thank you! But let me update the C40 for you that I just bought a month ago with some new goods and bads. The goods- And I will say GREAT and that is Volvo gives the buyers a FREE Sim card and FREE 4 years usage! Absolutely awesome and real world use is Google maps without using your phone. This alone may tip the scales for some buyers. Good 2> Has Apple Car Play now but even though I am an apple guy I almost dont need it with the upgrade to Android Auto. My phone has auto synched through Android! 3> Agree on the efficiency but literally the C40 COASTS so effortlessly even at high speeds that I have gotten 245 range with 7% left on a long term test! And since EVs are ALL sold on driver need, I would say that most people will have an EV and a gas powered car for long range- so I put the Volvo in my daily driver and with that means most of my charging is done at home. I live between Austin and San Antonio and the range is perfect for me. Everyone's mileage may vary- LITERALLY. 4> I like the lean on the Volvo to SUV and higher seating position.5> The EV6- especially the rear end just tries to hard to be futuristic and looks butt ugly (pun intended) to me- side view is very good but I like the Volvo better as far as looks go- obviously subjective. Now for the Bads. Not many but significant. Bad 1> That "panoramic" glass is useless and HOT. In Texas at least- I mean SCALDING hot- LAWSUIT hot! other parts of the country maybe no big deal. But while it holds the heat well it still needs a cover- I am going to an upholstery shop and they will insulate and cover it. Either go with a regular sunroof or none- these panoramic things- especially one without a cover is useless. The XC40 recharge DOES have a motorized cover. Bad 2> Why do EV makers think we are out to save the planet? I am not buying an EV to "save the planet" But so many (BMW/Lexus/Volvo/ some Mercedes) are now using "sustainable" material on the seats. And I think thats bullshit. The rest of the car? No problem but the SEATS are A> not up to the usual plush Volvo standards and B> they RETAIN HEAT and in the hot summer your back sweats against them seat backs! Recycled material is PART PLASTIC in the fibers and it is not great in the Texas Heat./ The AC blows cold and thats all good but your back WILL sweat. Again in cold Climates (Sweden lol) no issues. But in hot climates- no way. Ill take leather any day. Those are my updates to your great review. I am happy with my Volvo (my first one so not a fanboy) and once I insulate the cabin a bit more I will love it. Thanks again for the great review.

Totally agree on a couple of points. The ‘save the planet’ mentality that reduces the quality of many of the materials used. Me too - I like EV’s for the power and instant torque. I couldn’t give a hoot about the emissions side - it’s not going to make the slightest difference to the climate. Give me leather! And the hot seats. My current Hyundai Tucson has cooled seats, costs half the price, and they’re fantastic. Really don’t like the idea of spending so much more to get a car with lower interior spec. 🤷‍♂️

I drove the C40. It's very impressive but that view through the rear window is basically non existent. I'd go with the XC40 recharge every time if you love the Volvo. Re The Kia EV6 AWD. That vehicle is really impressive and it's 10k dollars cheaper than the Volvo. Re Volvo software. Didn't Google design the system themselves?

KIA cars were produced too fast. Batteries Management System is suspect, high risk for fire, so KIA recommends charging outside, the BMS kills the 12 volt, KIA brake lines are suspect and recalled for leaking, overall perception of prestige is blunted because it’s a…..KIA. The C40 is lovely but battery is inefficient and the 10K for the top model is 10K too much.

10:36 Volvo supports CarPlay as of this week, July 13, 2022! Also since you've already reviewed and rated the XC40 Recharge, there shouldn't be any surprises with this C40. Cabin noise in the C40 is louder than the XC40 at 50 mph at 73dB vs 70dB? Shouldn't the coupe shape be quieter?

I was briefly looking at the Volvo but when I found out that it's smaller and more spartan on the interior, I stopped looking. The EV6 is also one of the few EVs in this year's offerings with a functional sunroof instead of being just a "fishbowl." Volvo is a great name but that reputation came from and developed in Sweden. Nowadays, your Volvo is built in China. Nothing wrong with that but it's certainly no better a nameplate anymore than a car built in Korea. I bought the EV6 based on the reputation of the Hyundai/Kia group. I've had 5 Hyundai cars in the last 35 years and been happy with every one of them. My present 2017 Ioniq EV is still like new in every respect so I had no hesitation about staying in the family. Waiting for delivery of my EV6 and happy with what I have for now.

Only the Volvo for the Asian market are built in China. The European and USA vehicles are built in Belgium. I can get a C40 in 3 months - 4 to 5 weeks if I don't want a towbar ... but the EV6 and Ioniq5 are currently 12 to 18 months wait. I checked this for each this very week.

No. Volvo does not get Geely "hand me downs." in fact, Volvo technology goes to Geely brands. Volvo is making their own platforms and does their own engineering and manages their own cars. You are mistaken to think that Volvo is getting Geely hand me downs. They are a close to autonomous brand in their own division of Geely Holdings (ZGH).

So basically Volvo took the petrol body shell, and converted it to battery. The charging socket is where the old petrol filler used to be, and the transmission tunnel is still there in the way of rear seat passengers. What a bloody scam. And what an ugly lump.

Volvo's next-gen is going to change all of that. The new large SUV, all-EV platform Volvo will be introduced in the Fall. however, you're wrong about Volvo safety/crashworthiness. It's still one of the best in that regard though the XC40 didn't do as well in a revised side crash test as a Mazda.

Is it really though? 400v platform was perfectly fine until the kia came out with their 800v platform, and fitting a 78kwh pack in is nothing to be ashamed of. Well over 200 miles of range in both the kia and volvo are plenty for most people, and the volvo is slightly quicker than the kia. This was a more than adequate first attempt from volvo. Volvo was able to skip over the low range crappy CAFE ev generation and made a real competitor to all the other ev manufacturers. Just wait until they develop a ev dedicated 800v platform similar to what polestar is working on.

If you focus solely on charging speed under optimal conditions, perhaps. If you focus on infotainment technology, Kia and Hyundai are way behind. The Kia/Hyundai integrated navigation is garbage and doesn't auto-populate chargers along your route. Android Automotive is much better and has room to expand through OTAs, something Kia and Hyundai still don't have.

I feel sorry for electric car drivers and future owners. They will simply have to learn the hard way .. as I did. These things are a huge hassle, all those lost hours sitting in those charging stations, huge anxiety, plus a outrageous expense in the long run. Good luck trying to sell a used Electric car with wore out battery modules. You'll find out nobody wants to pay the ridiculous price of batteries ... Batteries are very ... very expensive to replace ( thousands of dollars) ... and make no mistake, you will be replacing them. These batteries are highly toxic to our environment, with a high potential for disaster to our surroundings. LITHIUM BATTERIES ARE NOT GREEN CLEAN ENERGY BY ANY MEANS! ...
