Which Middle Earth SBG army is the best?? A tournament list break down

In Melbourne I recently ran and TO'd a 500 point tournament with 27 players. Today I have got together with two other tournament veterans and we break down all the army lists to determine which one is the best!
What armies do you think deserve to be at the top of the tournament podium?

Even if you don't read out the full list breakdowns it would be good to have the lists on screen in the background for reference or as a document in the description. Good discussion so far.

I think one of the reasons lurtz's hunters are so popular is the fact most of the models have been available for 15 years. I could build a full metal uruk scout force without having to update anything

Love your content, I played this game my teenage years and haven't touched it since 2009. Just now revisiting and dreaming of getting back into it. @@ScorchMat Honestly the core rules are rather straightforward, its all of the peripheral rules like the differences between using a sword vs using a pick and so on. Just get the basics down to begin with, play some small 100-200 point games with an army you like the look/playstyle of and you can learn the specific rules that apply to YOUR army (be it magic, or a set of weaponry or special rule). From there you will start memorizing other rules as you encounter them!

@@mandonz Yeh I think Ive got the core rules down mostly. Like you said its the feinting and stabbing, heroic actions and stuff. Also only being able to play on my own isnt ideal

@@ScorchMat The three of us together have over 20 years experience playing the game. Don't worry about getting everything at the start. The more you play the more you pick up!

Hey so I'm just getting into MESBG and I've been loving all your videos! I have a question though is there a standard matched play points limit? Is it 750pts or 800pts?

There is no proper standard but if I had to say I would go with 750. Personally 500 is my favourite point because you get all the tools you need and the games are quick

Hello, im a player from spain, i wanna to ask you about where i can se some grafic about cuality of units or heroes, or something like this, because i want to be a really good player. My armies i play the most are 4: Angmar, Khand, goblin town and dwrft in this order, i wanna became one of the best khand player so... some advice?, some tactical to use it at diferente points? i have 4 chariot and i what to buy 4 more( but from not official marks, because i dont have so much money...) i think a list of chariot and horses are good, but maybe some other list also is quiet interesting, i hope you to se another experience like this video i really love it. Interesting analysis - I do feel that Rangers or Lothlorien would decimate Dale at 500pts though. Also the 4 As were in Entmoot! Will Champion said it in episode 32!

Forgive my ignorance, extra movement is pretty good. However the drum didnt hurt the list that much if the person won. Can it be discussed how the list was able to win? What tactics and interesting things were done to pull the win?

I've always had a question about Lurtz: what is his defense with a shield? I've always thought it was D7 cuz he is D6+1, but others say since his shield is free it is included, so D6. How did you do it in the tournament?

If you have a bow and a shield you don't get the +1 defence bonus so he is the defence that he is in his profile. It just gives him the ability to shield and he can throw it

Hello! I have a question about Halls of Thranduil. Are they a good army? because i do not find to much information about them but what i can find seems to be quite different from person to person. What i do know is that i have not seen them in tournaments that much.

Halls of Thranduil are awesome. I am pretty confident that they won the New Zealand League final in 2019. They are also a very common alliance in top lists at the GBHL. Thranduil is an incredible support hero while also being absolutely deadly in combat. Giving +1 to wound and +1 fight to nearby palace guard makes your battle line one of the best in the game. You also have access to sentinels which are in my opinion the best troop in the game. You only want 2-3 of them per list but they will always mess with your opponents plans.

@@ConquestCreations That is awesome to hear because the are so expensive models for your wallet that if you buy it then you would want them to be good on the board too. I have tried to red up on them and people really do not seem to like palace guards because they are expensive and while that is true they do seem very good to have a few around Thranduil and also the palace captain seems good. They only list i have found that went well in a tournament was a mish mash list with Thranduil and Theodred and Boromir and Galadriel and some troops of Rohan and some Mirkwood elves that i do not really understand why it is good but i guess it is because of all the heroes and just beating your opponent down with them. How would you play a competitive Thranduil army?

I actually do have Dale and never ended up playing them, since I kind of disagree. Yeah at 500 (actually 550 might be even better since you get Girion with 2 captains, a Banner and three nearly full warbands) they probably work best, but they are still only D4-5, still only S3, got no kav, a leader that can be wounded/killed quite easily and even with their good amount of S3 shooting, still lose all shooting wars against blinding light as well as close combat against many armies like 0815 Arnor spam with D6 and Malbeth. Sorry for me they are only "very" good in scenarios where they can deploy far from the opponent, don't need to get anywhere and don't come up against blinding light.

Goblin town look so much better with a greenish flesh colour scheme than that horrible pink flesh colour scheme.
