I'm a pro introvert.....When 2020 came around, I was celebrating I didn't have to leave my house. Introverts prefer to stay home and watch a movie rather than go out with friends (guilty of this by giving excuses of why I can't go). It helps to take the MBT with a friend who can tell you the honest truth about yourself.......I'm an ISTP.

For how many years, I identified as INTP (by analyzing the cognitive functions and taking various personality tests), then during the recent years, I felt a major "shift" in myself. Took a quick test as a joke, but I was so surprised when the results showed INFP. From then on, I started reviewing and analyzing the cognitive functions of INFP, and it's bull's eye. Had moments of identity crisis over this, but I think, I've already accepted myself as an INFP. :) There's a high probability that no one will see this, and if they do, they won't even bother reading through, but I just wanted to share it in here.

Ive seen many INFP get mistyped as INTP because they generally enjoy academic things and use logical thinking, However, their emotions are definitely the more visible and dominant factor. As an INTP, its pretty easy to tell when someone isnt an INTP so when an INFP get mistyped its pretty easy to spot and it shows that the test is flawed in many ways.

This is so true, I feel like INTJ is sort of misunderstood in the spectrum. We are very intuitive and reserved with people first glance. But once you get to know them, they come off as goofy and weird, come out more comfortable with friends that we are close to. Again, it's a matter of perspective, we can be both thinkers and feelers, though one is more dominant than the other considering the situation and how we perceive it

Because of this, they doubt (ironically) the validity of the MBTI, as INFJs are supposed to be the rarest type. Personally, I think the choice to attend a high-ranking liberal arts college is a strong indicator of a real INFJ. Because of this, I have to remind them that they aren’t the average population. However, these types of intellectuals are also the most likely to overthink a test and give all the “correct” answers - resulting in an INFJ. So am I right, am I wrong, am I even an INFJ? 🥴🤔🤪

As an INFJ, not sure, sorry :'] There's always a possibility you're ENFJ or INTJ, two pretty close types. I've also seen ISFJs mistype as intuitives, so might also be a possibility? Tho i met 3 INFJs in total, 2 of them being in the same class and friends, in high school. INFJs are becoming more 2-3%-ish of the population, so at least most of them might just be INFJs. You seem like an INFJ or one of the types i mentionned earlier, but i recommend doing other tests like cloverleaf or learning about the cognitive functions in depth before truly typing yourself. Also, keep asking how other people strongly interested in MBTI what type they think you are. Might be a great way to type yourself better. If someone refuses to even try to go further because it doesn't seem important to them, they might be ISFJ (they're Si dominant).

you shouldn't type yourself based on tests; you are right to doubt the validity of MBTI, since it's controversial and choice to attend a high-ranking liberal arts college is not a strong indicator of an infj. Also there are no correct answers to the test, you didn't mean most socially acceptable bc extroverted people are much more socially acceptable than introverts so what you meant by "correct" answers are the answers indicating who you want to be not who you are. This has nothing to do with overthinking, actually most people type themselves as what they want to be, that's why even the most reliable method(self-typing by cognitive functions) is not that reliable, unless you look at yourself from objective view.

I've taken the MBTI test twice now - the first time I was typed as an INTJ, and this last time I was typed as an INTP. I'm confident, after learning more about the two types, that I am indeed an INTP. Unfortunately, I'm a VERY lazy person, who loves nothing more than to procrastinate and lay about the house all day, and who has no real motivation to get up and actually do anything in life. I have plenty of great ideas but coming to the right decision on which one I WANT to do is so hard, because there's just so much work that needs to be done to get me to where I need to be and tbh, I hate working hard and the thought of having to do it fills me so much anxiety. So I can never stay resolute and because of that, I'm so indecisive about EVERYTHING and trying to choose the right course of action is so difficult and so incredibly stressful. On top of that, I tend to sleep a lot and hate interacting with people in general - I'm very anti-people, my shyness is honestly very debilitating and legendary among my immediate family. I am always getting lost in my own head, constantly thinking and reading about random and rather useless shit, just soaking up the info but doing nothing with the knowledge. Literally HOW do other INTPs function? Please. tell me your secrets.

But then I took the test and typed as INFP which I deeply recognized myself in. I've done it several times and always got INFP and most importantly I read many other profiles and while the ones with 1 letter difference are close, none are as exact as INFP for me. It really helped to accept myself as I am and celebrate my strengths. I have no doubt that this is my true type.

I think one of the causes can be the ambiguity of the questions of free online tests. Especially the most popular personality test is quite short and simple, much simpler than the actual MBTI test, and gives results with just a few questions. And also, this is my personal opinion but I think mental illness can affect the result. When people are under pathological stress, their responses don't actually reflect who they normally are, giving incorrect, distorted results. For example, an extroverted person can answer differently to the question asking if they're happy and energetic when around other people, when they're going through depression. So I think in reality "true" personality is hard to find and can vary.

I was confused by the "E" of ENFP. My family describes me as an introvert, and my friends as an extrovert. I'm not identified with introversion or extraversion becaue i'm ambivert, I've both traits. I have to recharge energy after intense or boring interactions with my classmates, because I'll be analysing my feelings. I mean, if I talk with my sister I won't need to recharge energy because I won't have pressure and I will begin a clown without analyse myself or feeling judged. I did the same, to be sure. I spend any hours to reading, understanding and comparing. Why do they want to be INFJ ? Did they really know this deep feeling to be ignored most of the time, to being misunderstood ? (since the childhood) These memories remain as traumas. I discovered this channel during depression and anxiety, and it helped me a lot to know myself. I was in relationship during 10 years, during this time I didn't really thinking about myself. I never knew who I was, what I want, what I really like, why I felt apart from all the other people. Since this years, I am lonely, even if I appreciate it a lot. 3 Month ago, I was diagnosed dépression and anxiety. Being lonely, made me thinking to the whole life : past, present, futur, regrets, memories, events that make me feel bad, many questions, too much questions about life, human, myself, my personality. Since KZfaq/google suggested me this channel, I finally (after 32 years) understand better my life and my personality. Did they really how it is to feel misunderstood/ignored by own family ? It hurt a lot. I understand most of them, I see all, I see most of the time how all is feel. Recently, I finally decided to share my feelings and my recent life (depression and anxiety) to my mother and brother by a long texts, told them positive and benevolent things. No one of them answered me. (seems they don't understand the deep things/feelings, think I am weird, I don't know) I knew this yet, but now I am sure : we are not on the same wavelength. I understand and fell them, but it seems they will never understand/know me (They still stuck with this "I know you", they don't know MBTI or personality things, cognitive functions.) Actually crying by feeling in same time sad and happy. I am feeling better when I see others INFJ share on KZfaq comments, feeling closer to them, and less lonely. Happy they are some people like me. Being an INFJ is not always easy, it like a fight with ourselves. When people you think they were close to you, told you : "You think too much", "We will not philosophy this"' and they don't accept your personality like this. It hurt. I remember days when I was 3 years old at school, all the children took a nap every day except me. Rare or not, we don't care, it's not important for us, it's not always funny for us. Remember : "We are all different" 💚 Take care of yourself, and take care of your mental health.

I suspect that part of the problem with extraverts typing themselves as intraverts lies in a misunderstanding of the terms: extraverts aren't necessarily outgoing with people (though they are more likely to be), but rather tend to interact with the outside world first. That interaction doesn't have to be in the form of socializing: it can be research, nature walking, all kinds of interactions. Certain extravert types (ENTP and ENFP) can come across as introverted rather easily. The real trick is to drop the introvert/extrovert dichotomy, and dig into the cognitive stacks themselves.

INTJ here - When I first took the MBTI at 21, I thought it wasn't correct because I had to be an extravert. I didn't have trouble talking with people and I found I could easily manipulate people. I now know I am more "extraverted" when I am stressed. I go from planning the rest of my life to planning my life at 24hrs at a time. You would tend to live your live much differently if you were told you had 24hrs to live vs being told you have 60 years to live. I wasn't into typology and I didn't give it much thought. When I retested about 14 years later, I knew myself much better and I was amazed at how accurate it was and how accurate it had been. 12:40 - Before I even watched the clip I wondered if INTJ's just get it. I feel our view point of the world is so far off that it is enviable that we come to the same conclusion and that is we are not like most people around us. Typology knows me better than every person I have dated and everyone in my family. And after a small amount of time it was also pretty clear for me to be an Fi-Hero. So yes I totally agree that it is hard to type yourself as an ISFP.

OMG. The ENxP, IxxP, ISFJ confusion is real. I often get close results to these types. I am actually ENTP. Recently, I relate to a lot of INFJ things. I've done so many self improvement stuff over the years so I don't relate to stereotypical ENTPs anymore. But over the course of my personal development, I have related to INFP, ENFP, INTP, and ISTP. Haven't watched the video yet, but here's my take on this topic: Any type can mistype but INFPs are gonna mistype a lot as INFJs because INFP behaviour is often mixed into INFJ stereotype. ExxJs might mistype themselves as IxxPs if they're not careful. Additionaly, introverts might mistype as extraverts. The type least likely to mistype? Maybe ISTP, since they often don't care about what type they have, they are unlikely to have biases towards certain types

I think some of the biggest hurdles for people to type themselves accurately are 1. People still mix up the Extrovert and Introvert definitions in mbti (It's about inward or outward focused, not social energy) 2. People conflate feelings as just that, as an emotional thing rather than a value thing. And thinking as "logic" so people's biases play a HUGE role in whether they type as F or T 3. 16 personalities made people think that the P and or J on their own mean something lmao, "oh i'm quite perceptive, must be a P type." And as a side note, as an INFP I get so personally annoyed when people in my life who are so clearly not INFP's experience something emotional and then suddenly are like "yeah, i'm so emotional, must be an infp, i'm also like such an introvert~" Like...stop🙄You would literally sell your values for a corn chip, INFP my butt. Such a good point for #1 on how the questions are written. In a past career, I was involved in writing survey and assessment questions. It is important to write questions in a way that won’t lead people in a certain direction. Equally important is considering how the wording could be interpreted by multiple people types. Writing good survey or assessment questions is pretty tough and requires a certain skill level to do so.

In fact, that perspective can get in the way. My father, mechanical/industrial/molding/product engineer (NT of some kind I think), never did really get computers. In school, he was the guy who would hand in a perfect math test with just the answers written down. He just visualized everything. Teachers made him prove he didn't cheat by having him do a new math problem in front of the class, and he'd nail it. But he just couldn't get a handle on something if he didn't have the ability to visualize it all at once and see all the patterns. While the first simple computers I played with to learn about them, did allow a pretty thorough and deep understanding of what they were doing all the time, modern systems really need to be treated with a modular approach to understanding. I worked in IT, in all sorts of roles. As an Se user I was much more comfortable with accepting things like black box models. I can accept that this API outputs X and Y and this other API needs inputs A and B, and my immediate goal was to make them work together. I couldn't spend time worrying about how it worked (though my ISTP curiosity led me to explore later when there was time). If I developed an application from scratch, I would build little bits of it, play with them, and then put them together like tinkertoys. Someone who is an ISTP mechanical engineer with a number of patents told me she got her latest one by watching a fly line in the water and observing how the water flowed around it, then applying that to a high end machine she supported in high tech industry. Se is useful. As a kid, I played with electronic engineering, from digital logic to high powered RF communications. I could accept that a square wave is what it is, unless and until there was some point to understanding the harmonics that show up on a spectrum analyzer or on paper in a Fourier transformation. Sometimes that stuff matters. Other times, not so much (other than basic concerns like bandwidth for a digital signal). I apply this mode of thinking to barbell training, teaching snowboarding, dog whispering, surfing... That said, I have always admired the mindset that could sit there in a quiet room and just visualize a CPU design from essentially thin air. Sometimes I have felt like I had the inferior mind. But there's more than one way to skin a cat. 🙂 As a manager I was told I ran things by the seat of my pants. I don't know if that was in insult or a compliment, given the organization. But it didn't bother me, because I knew I was running things in a chaotic and sometimes stupid environment, as well as someone could. Yeah, I could get pissed off because of how things should be vs how they were due to stupid policies and people. But I would just quietly do what I needed to, including modifying keys with a jeweler's file, so my department could do our jobs more efficiently by using unauthorized doors and elevators. 😝 As far as impostor syndrome, I don't think I've felt it. I can accept that people have different strengths and that they don't come without weaknesses. I have experienced burnout in my life. I've done some rather different things for jobs and businesses and I'm hardly done yet. As an employee in tech, what bothered me most was that I was often doing things to support the dubious work of people I didn't think much of. Yeah, ISTPs can think that lots of people are idiots, sometimes with good reason, and sometimes not. 😁

Isfp here. 👋 What you said about IP types certainly checked out for me. XD I even get typed correctly on Enneagram tests. And while what you say about isfps not being super into typology is mostly correct (something I've observed in r/isfp), I am one of the exceptions. Although, I didn't have much interest at first. I got my type and was ready to move on. Then I realize I could use it to figure out how other people work (and to better anticipate what someone is likely to do/how they're going to react). It is purely for selfish gain lmao. And fwiw, when I did read up on functions and type myself properly, I did come up with entj first. XD However, I quickly realized that this is how act in stress rather than standard operating procedure.

I got typed as INTJ for years, it was only when I looked at the functions that something didn't feel quite right. It took a while but I realised I'm an ENTJ, but I'm autistic so social interaction can go from enjoyable to tiring very quickly for me. I definitely use Te as my dominant function as I love bouncing ideas off people, talking through a problem and things like that. I feel like an INTJ might prefer to do all of their thinking internally.

That's a typical INFJ trait, being able to act like someone else. That's even a reason why some people may believe INFJs are actual extroverts when they're really not. It's just a mask to give confidence and being accepted more easily. I took the habit to look like someone confident when I have an oral by mimicking others, just because I knew it would bring me a better note to act this way, since it's what is socially expected. Even though when I'm done, I take off that personality and come back to my natural introverted and shy nature. Now FJ probably actually evolved after those years and I really hope he did. But we should keep in mind that he could act so outgoing because he thinks that it's what is more expected from watchers and could still internally be the same as many years ago regarding that. Only if you knew him in his privacy or if he would decide to answer sincerely you would really know. I'm concerned this could be interpreted as a want to contradict so I just want to precise it's only informative. I don't have an opinion.

@@isha4496 I think it's not exactly what I mean. It's more knowing how to talk with ease when necessary while still being an introvert along the way. That's certainly not a sufficient indicator to derermine your type. First because anyone could act as someone else, it's acting at the end of the day. It's just that it's a second nature for INFJs. Moreover, I think deciding to talk when necessary even if you're an introvert only comes to thinking entirely in term of efficiency and being ready to do what it takes to get your objective: "What do I need to do to get the best results in this specific situation? -> act like that, do that, think this way -> do it". No emotions, no worries, no questions. Everything that could stand in your way is an obstacle that could prevent you from reaching your goal so don't let it be. Thinker types would probably have an easier time undersranding this than an INFJ actually. But the INFJ would more naturally have the skills to do so in this specific scenario of speeches, orals where a partcular attitude is expected.

What happened to me was really interesting imo because I thought I was hella feelings oriented for the longest time as well as an introvert. I was very first typed as INFJ as a kid, then INFP as a teenager. Got a bit older, typed as ENFP. Moved out of my controlling parent’s, had multiple existential crises, burnt out, became useless for about a year. Started picking myself back up again and re-evaluating basically everything. Decided to start trying to self-improve. Thought I’d try the MBTI thing again, got INTP. I was shocked because I thought I was feelings person because I have large emotions and tend to get caught up in self-pity and general pathetic-ness. Life went on more, I realized I was in survival mode, decided to do my best to assure myself that I was, in fact, safe. Decided to do MBTI again because 1) it was bugging me and 2) I want to know myself so I can utilize myself better. Learnt the functions this time around, got it narrowed down to INTP or ENTP. Thought since my goal is self-improvement, I should look up advice for the types and see how that goes. The INTP stuff was good general advice- the ENTP stuff looked like everything I had ever written to hype myself up. Everything that ever worked. Learned more about the type, and yeah I’ve been a classic ENTP this whole time, I was just made to think that my entire personality was bad, basically. I’ve been letting myself be what I had been labeling as “annoying” or “cringe” about myself lately, and god I’m so much happier and actually getting shit done. This all just started as “ooh fun quiz lol” but it’s actually helping me change my whole life. 🤣

I originally took the real MBTI test with a counselor as a teenager and got ENFJ. Then took the real thing in a corporate job and got INFJ. I have tested as an ISFP once, but most often I get INFP. I got an ebook about deciphering whether you are an INFJ or INFP. After learning about the cognitive functions I am definitely an INFP. Turns out that the ENFJ is my shadow type which makes sense based on what was happening when I was in HS. The J was showing strong when I was working in the corporate world and school etc. But that was purely survival. I am 45 now and have worked for myself for over 10 years were I can do things the way that I prefer vs the corporate culture dictating it. Now I am positive that I am an INFP 9w1 after learning more about about cognitive functions and the driving fear behind Enneagram.

Not in my case. The first test i did several years ago came out INTJ, but i didnt bother to study the functions. I simply read the summary, and as soon as i read what i needed at that time, i didnt bother to read any further. I did not take another test until a few months ago, and i mistyped myself as an INTP. After finding out the differences betaeen the 2 types, i realize i am indeed an INTJ.

I think the Ni-Ti of an INFJ kind of demands that we figure out how/why the system works. Especially if the test results make us suddenly feel “seen” for the first time ever after a lifetime of being constantly misunderstood.

An(other) INFJ here. 😅 I had no idea about MBTI, these 16 personalities and everything when my friend sent me a link to do the test. It was 16personalities website I think, and I answered all the questions based on what I am, not what I would like to be and got INFJ (never heard abou it). I cried like half an hour because for the first time in my life I finally felt that there is someone who really can understand me, hahha. It was such a relief.. But then when I started searching about it, found some pages, it looked like every other person was infj, although it said it was the rarest personality. So I started doubting myself haha and did another test from a more reliable website, and got INFJ again and I do identify with it like 100%.
