"Which paper cutting machine should I buy?" is a very common questions in the Paper Bead Fanatics Facebook Group. Owning a cutting machine completely changes your crafting life. For me, it allowed me to cut paper strips at a much faster rate, saving a lot of back pain and time. In this video, I visited my friend Brenda, who has an amazing crafting room she opens to the community called ''The Nook". She has THREE paper cutting machines. We'll compare each machine and talk about both the good and the bad of each so you can make a purchase decision for yourself. Keep in mind that these are our own opinions based on experience with the different machines.

As to separating the colors, paper, vinyl, etc, with the Scan n Cut - you can scan in your design, save the design to the machine, unload the mat. Place pieces of different colored vinyl on it, reload the mat, recall your design from the machine’s memory, then, with a stylus, place the separate portions of the design onto the desired colors and cut it all on that one mat rather than having to cut them separately. You can also, resize, create multiples, group designs, etc, on the fly. No computer connection required. I love that I’m able to use tiny pieces of whichever material I’m working with and because of the background scan feature, I know exactly what is going to be cut on that little scrap. Much less waste.

It was such a delight to listen to you and Brenda describe the three different machines. The Cricut Explore Air 2 is the machine I received at Christmas with finally tackling it in February. Yes, I was intimidated but plowed through. Your video was very informative with a very relaxed atmosphere that made me wish I had a chair on the front row. Look forward to seeing y’all again with future videos. Y’all made it look fun and enjoyed seeing your smiles. Kelly, I’m learning how to work with SVG files while at the same time learning about my iPad. I should have conquered the iPad and all that it can do and then see how other technical aspects just fall into place. Then it will and/or should work on my Cricut Explore Air 2. Work in progress. Thank you. Jerry👩🏻⚜️🍡

I have had my Cricut Maker for 2 years and just recently bought a Silhouette Cameo 4. And boy, the learning curve is OMG! A little discouraging but I’m determined. The first few Silhouette cuts I completely shredded the mat. 😬 So I have to try a little more.

Thank you both for this informative video. I purchased a Scanncut DX125e about 9 months ago and I find it difficult to maneuver. Plus their mats are the worst product ever. It offers many features that I like but for me personally I always need to watch a tutorial to remember how to operate the features. I have the original Cricut machine that is over 20 years old (loved it) so I somewhat regret not buying the newer model. I wish I saw your video before because it really was a great insight to all the different brands. Thanks again.

I have the Brother Scan and Cut Dx125, Circuit Explorer, Maker, and a Cameo so I have used all the SVG files for each one. I have most of your files Kellie so I use them on the Brother. the DX machine is terrific and it is also blue tooth. The Cameo also has the 12 by 24 mat. Thank you for sharing this video with all of us. They cut a full sheet of a page when I make my own paper bead strip files for each machine. But for paper Beads, I use the Circuit Machine the most. For other Crafts like cards etc, I will use the Brother and the Cameo.

I started with Cricut Maker 3 and then got a Scan and Cut DX. I LOVE MY SNC!! I do still use the Cricut, but I use my SNC a LOT more. In fact, I'm hoping to surprise my sweet Mother-in-Law with a SNC as she's a quilting Goddess and I'd love to make her life easier now that she's getting there in years so her hands hurt sometimes.

Thanks for this video. I am considering getting a ScanNCut SDX85, for the ability to scan images and cut them out. Your review has helped. Currently, I have a Cricut Expression 2 (an older machine), and I love it. However, I don't think that version can import SVG files. Do you know of a way? Thanks!

Thank you ladies for sharing your experiences! I'm curious . . . if you're looking to create your own cut files in a variety of sizes/lengths/shapes . . . is the software on one of these machines more user friendly in your opinion? For instance, if I have one file for triangles that are 3/4" x 11" but then also want the 3/4 triangles only 5", 6" or 7" long if I'm recycling greeting cards do I need to start from scratch or can I simply tweak my longer file? Thanks for your feedback!
@ChellejonPaperBeadRollers
@ChellejonPaperBeadRollers 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can create the files in the software. The Brother software allows for more manipulation of shapes, but for what you described any of the three should do it.

I have the older Scan n Cut CM350 2 and love it. I have also had a Cricut Explore Air which I did not like. The flexibility and reliability of the Brother is incredible. I think, however, it largely depends on your needs and familiarity with the product. I really believe the newer DX Scan n Cut machines are much more complicated and, except for the auto depth blade, I cannot find any real advantage to switching to that more expensive machine. I am a miniaturist and need to cut incredibly tiny designs that I print or draw. The Brother does that with unbelievable precision. I’m not limited by needing an SVG file or a connection to a computer. (BTW-I don’t understand the comment that the Mac does not have a USB port. Of course it does. ) If I do want to import a file I just put it on a thumb drive, plug that into my Scan n Cut and I’m good to go. But I can print out , or draw, or stamp, anything and the Scan n cut goes right to work. I love the freedom from the computer and the fact that I don’t need to pay a monthly fee like I did with the Cricut. The mats are admittedly not as sticky as other brands but KZfaq shows dozens of hacks and I haven’t found that to be a problem. For me, it’s the Scan n Cut all day long.

I enjoyed your presentation a great deal, however I believe that you have left out one of the major factors associated with the Scan n cut, if you are not overly computer literate you can still use the scan n cut with all the built in fonts and patterns with no need to even have a computer. My first machine was a KNK Zing which was extremely hard to learn firstly because there is no support in my country and it has to connect to computer with a cord. The scan n cut I could use straight out of the box and all I needed was a few KZfaq videos to get started.

Great job ladies on reviewing those cutting machines. I am on my 4th Silhouette machine and have always wanted to try the Brother. The Silhouette does have a 12x24 mat. It also has the Pixscan mat which functions similar to the Brother Scan&Cut. I love it because I don’t always have a die that I can use to cut images for card making so I stamp the image, use the Pixscan mat and then cut. The only drawback for some would be having a printer that allows you to scan the image on the mat directly into the computer. As you both said there is a learning curve with all those machines depending on how you want to use it I think they all are great. Thanks again for a great review.

Why not try to get the cricut mat, and add a scanned top code as sticker to it, so the brother will read those codes but cut on better mat

Hi Renee! You can create your own images and save them as SVG files. I know the Brother allows you to import JPG images and it will trace the outlines, but it's not the greatest tool. Making an SVG is much easier. I use Inkscape for that, which is free.

Hi, I have ciricut air 2. I just want to create my own template. Just need someone to help me with the measurements using cm each bead. bicone, round, the split paper, (forget what that one is called). Have watched so many videos on paper beads, getting confused. Once I have the measurements I can put into circuit.. Hope you can me.. Thanks, I also live NC
@ChellejonPaperBeadRollers
@ChellejonPaperBeadRollers 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Gloria! The measurements for each type of bead are going to depend on what weight of paper you are using when you roll. There really isn't one standard measurement that always works. I include measurements in most of my videos if that helps.
