Great advice. I'm a firm believer in prep work. It can be tedious but it makes a world of difference in the end result. I'd like to comment on unpleasant odor. Try removing it before trying to block it. Foul odor is usually something organic that has not been cleaned (mold, mildew, food). I like to take a piece outdoors, scrub every surface inch inside and out with an anti-bacterial dish detergent, rinse with garden hose, and leave to bone dry in the hot sun. Bleach will kill mold. Watch how the rinse water flows over the surfaces to reveal any invisible oily or gummy patches that need extra attention. Thorough cleaning also reveals any needed repair that you would overlook with just a quick wipe down. You can also add some drops of a favorite essential oil to some interior surface. Choose a porous surface that you don't intend to paint.

Very helpful video. I agree I have experienced success with blocking and bonding when using BIN ZInzzer Shellac based white primer. I roll it on with a WHIZZ high density foam roller. I can get thru each project using one roller.

You can get Kilz paint base, and tint it at the store. They have paint sample cards just like other paints. The colors are quite lovely. I prefer satin finish. I’ve been pleased with it every time!

That was very useful information. I’m getting ready to do a makeover on my bedroom furniture. I had the dresser and two night stands made for me years ago, I bought the headboard and footboard. I know the dresser and night stands are solid wood, oak. The headboard and footboard probably are a combo of wood and veneer. I’m painting them with country chic, all in one paint, sage advice. I used krud kutter gloss off to clean my piece. It has a gloss finish. Will I still need to prime? It doesn’t have any orders, we don’t smoke, so that’s not an issue. Right now all the pieces have a stained and varnished finish. Thanks for any advise you can offer.

One can use regular housecleaning ammonia as a solvent for BIN white pigmented shellac. Of course use a RESPIRATOR as the fumes are rough or outdoors with a fan blowing fumes AWAY from you. This way you can still use a decent brush and not ruin it

This was such an excellent video and I had no idea that Bin Shellac wasn’t a bonding primer. I’ve never used a bonding primer then 🫢 I clearly need to check out what primer options I have here in Canada. Thank you so much for this, it was super!

Hey Amy I just bought a cheap store laminate type white cabinet. It has some damage so got a fantastic deal. I know I need primer. Which is best slick stick?? I need a self leveling and which brush would be best? I know I have seen you talk about this before but I can't seem to find the video.
@FlipItFurniture
@FlipItFurniture Жыл бұрын
Hi Teddie! Slick stick is great for laminate. It’s tricky with brushstrokes though. I either use the scarlet brush or a sponge brush. Any brush strokes will show through so Really focus on getting a flat finish. I even give a light sanding with a really high grit in between coats. I’m not trying to knock off the slick stick because we want it to work, I just want to knock a little bit of the brushstrokes out. Good luck Teddie!

Consider a fragrant wax on the unpainted interiors that are designed to moisturize dried out old wood.
