If you are contemplating a return to work after your career break, you've likely explored job search engines like Indeed, LinkedIn, and The Mom Project in hopes of finding the perfect opportunity.
You may have even applied for positions on those boards - while noticing that 500+ other applicants have, too. And you're probably wondering how you'll ever stand out in that vast digital crowd - or maybe you've already figured out that you don't, by not hearing back on any of those applications.
Have no fear. In this video, we discuss the BEST job search engines for moms returning to work - and SURPRISE, the answer is "none of the above." While job boards are an excellent source of information, they will not help you get "in." As someone with an unconventional resumé or resume gap, the best and only way to land the job you want is through NETWORKING.
Here is how you should use job search engines in your back-to-work action plan:

3️⃣Job Matching: Take advantage of their advanced algorithms and job matching functions to match your skills and preferences with relevant job openings, saving you time and effort in finding positions that align with your qualifications. This helps you learn about new-to-you roles - Think of this as a head start to your Exploring and Assessing.
4️⃣Networking Opportunities: Skillfully use the names on a job posting or company website to expand your network, ask more about the company, and decide if it's somewhere you would want to work. And don't forget the network closest to you - your family, friends, and former co-workers. They may have contacts in the organizations you want to work.
Networking human-to-human allows you to share your story, confidently address any career or experiential gaps, and showcase the skills you gained during your time away. This personal touch is what opens doors to fulfilling opportunities every time.
