I find value in your videos. But, man does the talking over repetitive music make them hard to watch. I rarely get through an entire video without skipping through it, 60 secs at a time. Maybe it’s just me, but it drives me crazy. Play the music when you’re not talking please.

If willing and have the funds for a DC-reel, buy one. However, there are numerous less costly choices for most new anglers. DC reels are more luxury than necessity and still are far from completely fool proof. Accomplished anglers desiring DC reels, buy them for improved casting and upgrading to higher levels of breaking technologies. The more levels of adjustment make reels braking system better. For the difference in cost the Scorpion is better for accomplish anglers and SLX is better for new anglers desiring extra help starting out. I do agree with your recommendations and the opinion you provided.

I just ordered the scorpion 101hg dc. I really hope it comes quick and it is really what it said in the description. I hate ebay especially ordering out of the country.

My first dc reel was an Md Antares on Christmas I got a scorpion dc , I used Antares once I took the line and kept it! Scorpion dc is 100 size spool idc 5 this is my favorite dc reel my Antares is up to trade !!

@THE REEL TEST - It isn't about the amount of breaking on each setting, but more about when the breaking is applied. The fluoro mode boosts the breaking at the beginning of the cast. I can't remember where it is, but I know where there is a old chart somewhere that shows a bell curve of how the breaking is applied for each mode. I'll see if I can find it. On another note, the Shimano Conquest 843c is in the mail today... should have it by Wednesday. I'll let you know how it compares to the NRX and if it's worth getting one.

From what you said about the scorpion being louder to me it seems the braking is always applied stronger all the time on this model over the others because the stronger the braking the more and louder you hear that electronic buzzing sound.

Training with my first baitcaster? Now that I got my first baitcaster ever, the Curado DC, what's the best line and lure to use for the sole purpose of learning. I am happy to just sit at the dock for a few 1000 casts, not trying to fish, but just Practice, Practice, Practice. What line and lure should I practice with?

Just out of curiosity, why are you using fluoro line on the mono setting? I believe if you would use the correct setting with the correct line, you would see a major improvement. I have used braid on setting 2 with no issue. I now use fluoro on setting 3 with no issue. I set my spool tension as directed.

Before you launch your first casts, do you dial in the reel? I read that you are supposed to do 2-3 mini half casts to let the chip dial it in before trying to launch one. Wouldn’t that have cut down on the first cast backlashes?

Ok real word casting question for this 3, It’s not all about casting 900 miles. 1st question.. for non boaters Bank fisher that find or make holes to get water trying get to new spots to fish. You have trees, bushes, etc in the way can’t cast from 1,2 clock to 6,7 clock position, but you got cast side cast from left to right or right to left or odd angles , Which of this three does better not to blow up? 2nd For boaters or non boaters try pitch and flip or skipping get under some kind of structure, which is better?

I've owned a few DC reels, and just purchased a Scorpion DC 101. Wow what a reel, amazing. I also picked up a 2018 Shimano Exsence CI4 3000 reel from Malaysia for under $270, originally $900. There blowing out the 2018 for new model. Its so smooth, like butter and black on black on black styling. Looks awesome. You should try one out. No comparison to the Stradic CI4 reels. Makes them feel like they're cheap. I'd say there close if not the same as Stella.

When you are showing the true braking system and it's attributes you need to keep your thumb completely out of the way. I was trying to watch the spool and then there is your thumb. Just my opinion. I watch your reviews and get good information from them. Keep up the good work.

I am amazed that people don't understand you never need to adjust the brake on a Curado DC reel. In fact, it will mess your reel up by changing the factory setting. If you do a You tube search for tackle warehouse and Curado DC overview, the Shimano rep will make this very clear. You also still need to lightly thumb the DC reel when casting.

What if use mono line and set the reel to no.2(mono line mode)? I mean on idc4

What reel light weigt bud not shallow spool?

I’m not really a fan of the idc 4. I’ve been wanting a scorpion dc, the only thing I’m worried about with it is the dark color of the reel absorbing a lot of heat and shutting off the dc system. It’s happend twice to me already won’t be Antares dc md and that reel isn’t even as dark as the scorpion

How about the shimano 20 essence DC reel? I own it and imo it’s better than all 3 and only $300 from Japan 🇯🇵

Slx dc is good reel for start in baitcast?

Those 4 position dc brakes in the curado dramatically reduce the scope and castability of the reel. I'm used to be able to throw 8 gram lures with all my Shimano baitcasters. But not with this pile of crap! All braking systems need to be able to be backed right off to almost nothing. With this reel on the minimum setting there is still a ridiculous of braking and it just wont let the spool attain enough rpm. It literally casts two thirds the distance the non dc version will. I was alerted to this by one of my customers who returned one for a refund saying the thing just didnt cast. I thought he was crazy but when I tested it he was right!. Ive had to stop selling them. The old dc systems with an adjustment scale of 1 to 10 like my Calcutta dc cast fantastic. What on earth Shimano were thinking designing a braking system with such little adjustment I will never know. Might work ok with the ridiculously heavy double handed rods and huge lures used in the US but here in Australia we fish single handed rods and smaller lures and for that the thing is just useless.

Sorry, but what am I missing? I thought the purpose of dc reels was to prevent backlash. Did you set it up wrong or was do something to cause the backlash. Thought these things were to prevent it. Did I miss something cause I just ordered a slx dc not 2 hours ago and I sure don't want to treat it like my other reels.

I use Lew's and Abu Garcias. Honestly never used a lot of these new systems they advise and I rarely ever have backlash in any conditions. I would say learn how to overcome the issues. Would never suggest convenience over experience. In the end it just makes you less capable of persevering.
