I was specifically pointing out how they instead of using the actual cultural factor, they went for the developed x non-developed countries factor. Yes, sure we have our different facets for western civilazation, but that doesn't mean it's a different culture overall. If they were spliting it to that level, then Europe would be fully fragmented into other classifications, since it also has equal if not bigger variations than north vs south america. Addressing your second point, that's my fault, I shoul'dve used in lieu the term Latin America, which would be more appropriate @@WoobertAIO

Our monarchy holds a lot more power than people realise.

Australia got put into Asian qualifying because Oceanic qualifying has 0.5 spots in the World Cup and Australia would inevitably win every time, then get put into a qualifier against either the 4th NA team, the 6th SA team, or the 5th Asian team. The only way New Zealand (and the islands, but not really) had a chance was for Australia to compete out of Asia - and honestly, it's better for Australia too, because Asia has more spots available. Now that the World Cup is expanding to 48 teams, it all feels a bit less relevant, but for a few iterations the move really helped both Australia and New Zealand (admittedly at the expense of some of the other Asian qualifying teams).
