If you're interested in buying your own treadmill, this video is for you. One important note, not included in the video, is you MAY get away with purchasing from a big box store - IF you only walk on your equipment.
26 October, 2020 Update: Please be careful, when choosing your treadmill. I wish to reiterate that used treadmills MAY be a value...if you do your homework first. Most importantly with the "gently used" variety - Ask if you may try it out for 30 minutes. Yes, I know AWKWARD! The test may mean the difference between a "steal" and a 300 pound clothing hangar.
I generally don't like being too public. Keeping a blog up to date is a bother. However, if you're looking for motivation to use your new treadmill or just work out, visit me at: / buck-rogers-2000-40462... There will be NO sales pitches, comparisons with others/myself or criticisms. Perhaps a little incentive for you to get into YOUR routine...it's not much but you probably don't NEED much.
A brief overview of a warranty replacement, from Icon Health and Fitness: • The Truth About Treadm...
The verdict on that same treadmill: • The Truth About Treadm...
4 May, 2020 Update: I'm getting some requests for treadmill recommendations. Please note that I am unable to accurately assess treadmills I've never evaluated and each one would take at least 6 months to make a comprehensive report... not that I'd have the room. I'll make a wild statement and tell you that anyone who can perhaps isn't really interested in providing you valid information. They're more interested in the incentive for making their claim(s).
A quick "Shout Out" to "Martin C." at Lifefitness customer service. I misplaced my heart rate chest strap to my C7i Lifecycle. He made the process of getting a replacement not only easy, he took a few moments to see if I qualified for a veteran's discount (parts no, equipment sales yes).

We're in the market for a treadmill right now. Gyms all shut down. Too cold and dangerous to run outside where I live (other reasons too I won't get into).... This is not only helpful but very funny! (And @2:00 ...this practically predicted the future!)

Hi. I really enjoy treadmill running lately. I have run since about 20 y.o. but now at 62 it felt like I got a better workout than running outside. More time, more sweat and less joint discomfort. I tend to do 4 miles in about 34 minutes as my daily run but some times do the hour meaning about 7 miles. Outside running is not considered as is to buy a treadmill. I prefer to hit the gym and feed my pupils while working out. At the gym I can also use the resistance machines and use the rowers that also gave me great cardio time.

I am over 200lbs and run between 35 to 45 miles a week. I bought a Bowflex 7 series treadmill in 2005 and had over 10K miles on it when it finally died this month. Several times I worked with the Bowflex Customer Service and never had an issue. Just purchased a Bowflex BXT216 and hoping to get just as much use out of it. As a final note every month, or every other month, used silicone spray on the deck, belt, and performed all regular maintenance to extend the life.

@BuckRogers2000
@BuckRogers2000 4 жыл бұрын
Abdulaziz - No, I haven't even seen a Trueform or the original Woodway. Fascinating concept and I would LOVE an opportunity to try either one. Manual treadmills have been around forever. These are a huge leap forward though. My brief research on the Trueform indicates variable resistance...which may or may not be useful in the long run (pun intended). If you DO end up purchasing one of these types of treadmills, consider doing a comprehensive review of your own (after 500 miles or so). It's the best way for us consumers to support one another. @FirstNameLastName-gb8pg
@FirstNameLastName-gb8pg 3 жыл бұрын
@@henrikbrmer6318 I work well for longer runs, short runs, walking, sprinting, and in my estimation, is untouchable for intervals. Whether you are doing a run/jog, walk/run or anything in-between, the TrueForm has true manual operation, therefore it responds immediately to your change in exertion. Whereas other manual treadmills use a flywheel to make it feel less like a manual and more assisted. Find a crossfit gym near you that has one. Just pay for a day pass and try it out. It takes some getting used to because it forces proper running form (forefoot strike) and because it feels so natural that your body gets confused that you aren't actually going anywhere. But once you find your confidence in the machine, I dont think you would be satisfied with anything else.

What are your thoughts about Sole Fitness specifically their higher end models F85, TT8 and TT9? Did you ever get to try those?
@BuckRogers2000
@BuckRogers2000 4 жыл бұрын
Chandan, Thanks for watching!! I have not tried the Sole brand, except for once or twice at the Travis AFB, Ca gym. That was years ago. One reason why I produced this video was that one particular company was obviously producing substandard equipment. Sole wasn't it. That said, there wasn't a lot on the other companies to base a judgement on. Businesses are in it for the money, not altruism. That one company I alluded to earlier may have poisoned the well, as other companys have started cutting corners too. I recommend checking the BBB's website for the latest complaints and reviews. Oh, be cautious about the "rating" the BBB gives its companys. It's based upon the number of closed cases. If Sole passes your muster (you decide to buy one), I encourage you to post your experience with it...or with whatever you decide to buy. Good luck and HAPPY RUNNING!!!!

@BuckRogers2000
@BuckRogers2000 4 жыл бұрын
Much of the research remains the same as in the video: Research brands (I highlighted some on the video) and then check their reputations by reading their reviews and complaints on the Better Business Bureau's website. While I notice the BBB's rating, I temper that with the reviews and complaints. I don't put much stock in reviews on Amazon or big box stores. Many times the consumer hasn't really hasn't used their equipment enough to make a comprehensive judgement. They're also invested in their decision to purchase that brand/model. Here's an example (and shameless plug) for my "verdict" of the warranty replacement I received: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/f8V3dNWcnsDZcYE.html I waited until I had over 500 miles on the equipment before making a final recommendation. I actually rushed an earlier version, simply because of a safety issue I discovered. Hopefully, there's a brick and mortar store somewhere within your range to visit, that is open. Call ahead and ask if you may try out the ones you're interested in. If there aren't any...well, you may have to go on your research and gut instinct. Try not to get too discouraged. This is a great opportunity to further your fitness goals. I wish you much success in your fitness journey - Thanks for watching!

Cool tip about checking mileage! I’ve put 418hr and 2173mi on my Nordic Track C900! I’m a bit disappointed in my Average speed but I guess slow warm ups and cool offs will do that 😩. If you’re in the market... I think it’s around 7years old. I’ve stuck around 170lb most of that time and I usually run 3mi in a session. I’ve only done a couple half marathons on it. I did just replace the belt a few months ago. Also the screws snapped in one of the rear feet a while back. Otherwise it seems to be holding up 👍.

That's AWESOME! Unfortunately, the method doesn't work anymore for checking mileage and hours on new models. It has to be done manually as far as I know. That's another reason to keep a paper log. I'd recommend doing some research, for when your treadmill does finally give up the ghost. My Epic T40 is in mothballs,due to a component that they no longer manufacture. I received a Proform Smart Pro 5000 as a warranty replacement. So far, it's holding up pretty well (a little over 400 miles/100 hours so far). Keep up the excellent work!!

WHY CAN'T ANYTHING BE SIMPLE =- AHHHHhhhhhhh!!! I had the same problem with my first treadmill...it's the main reason I started this series. I can't say what your model is or how much you paid but you have a couple of options. 1. If you're still in the window of purchasing the extended warranty, (UTS) do it. NOW. If you bought a cheap model ($500 range), get the 5 year plan. They are generally responsive, NOT like Proform "customer service". You'll likely be calling them throughout the warranty period. 2. If you're past the warranty period, I've noticed Icon Health & Fitness seems to use the Better Business Bureau as their de facto customer service. They used to have a D- but since this video was publlished they seem to care about what their rating is. Lodge a complaint. Once your "case" is settled, leave the appropriate feedback. This seems to be the best way for us treadmill owners to determine which manufacturers are selling snake oil or not. GOOD LUCK!!!

Buck Rogers 2000 Mine is a Proform 545i and is now up to full price at £899.99. I paid £699.99 on a plan. I’ve spoken to Argos the retailer, Panther the couriers, and Icon themselves. All as shit. The main bone of contention is that mine is stored in my spare upstairs bedroom. They will not take it as up stairs. My retort was if I was a pensioner that lived on a first floor flat, would they still be saying I had to get it downstairs?! It’s their machine, not my fault that they sent me a sub par machine, so should be up to them to bloody get it. I honestly am at my wits end. They are supposed to be doing a straight switch on Tuesday but won’t hold my breath. Also this is the second day I’ve had to book off work as the first one they cocked up on. Christopeit... Tunturi... There are some others but their motors are even weaker and max speed is something like 12 km/h... Also don't really want to buy elliptical or a regular bike as I know I never really use them much in gym anyway... seems a lot of people are now getting same idea and buying training equipment :D

Buck, is a treadmill w/a weight capacity of 350 ok for a walker who weighs 300? I'm looking at Tr*e.
@BuckRogers2000
@BuckRogers2000 3 жыл бұрын
My general OPINION is no. Remember, I'm just an individual who has a lot of experience with running on treadmills and owning three (over time). When I reviewed my current treadmill (Proform Smart Pro 5000), I discovered it has "roller runaway" at steep inclines. Although rated for 300 pounds, my 225 pound body is too much for the inexpensive motor to accommodate...and my treadmill accelerates simply from my weight. My prediction on your chosen machine is you get it and use it religiously...but it dies somewhere around the 200 mile point. I had one, I know. Companies have made a tidy profit, producing "budget conscious" treadmills. They scrimp on everything and anything they can. It's a business right? Many times, consumers have their "Display" treadmill, to let everyone know they're fit. This works fantastic for that intended use. I wouldn't trust one to hold up for any serious length of time of use. I stand by my recommendations in the video. I honestly think a treadmill should be a sizeable investment you shouldn't scrimp on. If you want to save, cut down on the gimmickry that is prevalent nowadays. See if the manufacturer has options with more horsepower or wider/longer decks vs. "Expert" trainer videos or interactive content. The more complicated your machine, the more likely problems will occur. Make certain you visit the Better Business Bureau, to see what others are saying about the company that produces the unit you're interested in. Regardless which manufacturer you choose, this is MY truth. Good luck!!

I run ~50mi per week, threrefore have my own treadmill for years, whenever the weather is bad. My thoughts: Forget about features and gadgets (TV, video, music, heartrate, touchscreen, incline, decline,....) but only focus on a robust design/build quality, strong motor and a larger running platform size. You want to run, that's it. For the saved money, better buy a dedicated tablet or TV or a stereo....

Ein, you've got a great fitness regimen but I disagree (a little) with the features and gadgets. For instance, I have come to find that incline and decline are worth it...if you choose to use them. I also appreciate good information screens. My biggest difference is I employ music as a powerful motivational aid. That said, watching a movie or TV I find distracting and counter productive. You assertion to choose a robust design, strong motor and larger platform size are spot on. Thanks for watching and commenting!!

If you buy at Walmart, expect to pay ~$500. Just like described, smaller surface, smaller rollers...if you accept this is really just a walking machine (265lb capacity and 2.25hp motor) then it works just fine.

True enough, although I wouldn't expect more than a few hundred miles from them...Their weight capacity is probably not realistic, however. The more you weigh, say than 170 pounds, the less reliable it will be. Especially, if they're not maintained. For an example, my Proform "SmartPro 5000" has a 4.2 HP motor. Yet, it allows for "roller runaway" at steep inclines...once again, if you weigh over a certain amount.

I moved my current treadmill twice, in the past 18 months. The first move was into a townhouse apartment. I elected to have my "living room" as my gym, as it was on the first floor. These things are big, bulky and heavy. You may incur damage to the treadmill or the door jam/walls. Much should depend upon your life's game plan. If you're planning on moving into a house later, it may be best to wait. As I mention in the video, find your "footprint". If you can't spare the space, join a gym. Thanks for watching!!!

NO exercise company is altruistic but some make better products than others. I intend for my next treadmill to last me for the rest of my life. What brand will it be? I'm not certain. Companies have ups and downs. At the moment, Lifefitness seems to have a solid product. I used them for years while I was active duty (retired USAF). I've heard Precor makes a good treadmill but I've have used them only a few times. I don't know if it's feasible, or if Mr. Grau is willing but I would try giving him a call. He reviewed this video, before I published it. He has much more insight into the industry than I do. Aha! An astute viewer, well played!!!! The answer is...I haven't yet. At this particular moment in time, I still lean towards LifeFitness. I DID acquire a new treadmill last year but it's a warranty replacement. You can view my "verdict" here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/f8V3dNWcnsDZcYE.html

Ian, my diet is fairly carbohydrate restricted and my sugar intake is limited to what's naturally in my food. I don't eat sugar candy, cookies, etc. I'm certain portion size comes into play but my portions are no different than most peoples. I suspect I'm a victim of genetics. I greatly favor my maternal side of the family. If you want to know what you'll look like in thirty years, look at your parents. That'll give you a pretty good clue. I've been running, weight lifting and controlling my diet for decades. My runs typically are now two hours long for a distance of around 8 miles (2 degree incline). My lifting routines are generally around 90 minutes. Hopefully, you'll be seeing an upcoming video "Weight lifting for the rest of us". I created this series as an example for others, like me. You don't have to have an appealing physique to use the gym. You're there to improve your fitness level and maybe look better in the process. While I may not be so lucky in one genetic aspect, I've been blessed in other regards: I've got a fairly good intellect, a wicked sense of humor and a touch of grit. Oh, I've got a super power - I'm a legend in my own mind. You wrote " I only do 15-20 mins a time and I start to feel im losing weight with some general weight sets !" - That's a taste of awesome, right there and I wish you great success. This also leads me to perceive you're just launching your fitness journey. If I could go back to your age right now, I would do the following differently: Monitor and limit my carbohydrate/sugar intake. Find alternatives to candies, cookies and crackers. I would definitely cut down on my potato dishes. One "secret" I have to being a legend in my own mind is that I don't allow myself to get too discouraged. Sometimes, I look at old photos of myself and say "Dang, I looked GOOD!" Good luck, Ian and THANKS FOR WATCHING!!!

easy math. take in more calories than you burn. he simply eats too much or burns way less than you might expect. genetics are not to blame.

@@BuckRogers2000 Try intermittent fasting, maybe start off with a 36 hour. It's surprisingly easy to do.

I perceive that ANYTHING is better than nothing. I also KNOW that starting any fitness journey is best when taken gradually. Factors like age, weight, body type, etc., should be taken into account. If you want to promote your health, critical thinking (exercise is great for this) and overall confidence - certainly. Perhaps you will push yourself, maybe not but getting started with a practical low impact regimen is wise. I wish you a FANTASTIC fitness journey - Thanks for watching! kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qZ6TpNmLtcqnXaM.html
