Micro-plastics in the ocean are beyond dispute. Logically, ocean derived salt would carry some of these micro-plastics. Logically also, a dried up sea now underground would not contain micro-plastics because they were not invented at the time of formation of the dried up sea. But many salt-grinders use plastic mechanisms, and these too contribute abraded micro-plastics to our "diet". I prefer to use a mortar and pestle to grind up my salt - this is made of marble, which is mostly calcium carbonate and also of ancient origin, and does go into my diet in small amounts.

@@artbykristylalonde4165 This is why comprehensive science education is so important. "Dr." Berg is not a medical doctor he's a chiropractor. He cant really hold a candle to the Medical Doctor talking in this video in terms of who knows more about the body. Going to the Dr. Berg video: The amount of trace minerals he stated is vastly wrong. He made it up. There's much less. Even if he was telling the truth, those 84 trace minerals only make up 15% of the salt he mentioned. That means you get so little of each one it really doesn't do much. All salt can give you high blood pressure so he lied about sea salt there too. He mentions seasalt can help with "pH balancing". This is not true. Your body automatically balancs your pH at different levels for different things by itself (stomach acid vs blood vs spinal fluid etc). If it didn't, you'd just be dead. "Dr." Berg made this up.

Most likely, if you're grinding the Himalayan salt vs the really tiny bits of table salt sized particles of salt, larger flakes don't taste as salty based on how the tongue deals with salt even if it is the same amount of salt. For example, I'm used to grinding salt like what you're doing (larger salt bits go onto food) vs when I bought Real Salt, which has much smaller grain size, and things got too salty, too fast even tho it was the same amount of salt I was used to.

I haven't salted my food with table salt for more than 40 years... I figure I get more than enough salt in the processed foods I consume. Every now and then my wife will cook something that tastes very salty to me and I ask her if she put any salt in it while cooking. Her answer is usually no... She knows I don't use it. It's not that I don't like salt, I'm just cognizant of how much salt is in processed foods and that I really don't need all that much more salt.
@verreal

Me, too. But I was still surprised that some prepared foods varied widely in the amount of sodium, and started choosing ones with less sodium. Also, I once found that a "low sodium" soy sauce had more sodium than another one that didn't make such claims. You've got to read the fine print on the back. I've even resorted to translating foreign labels, as I live in a country where some imported foods are "nutrition labeling exempt." I've got to read the original sometimes.

pink salt the pink is actually the tiny almost microspopic agates with a coating of iron oxide. fine sand and other impuritiies. you can take a bunch of it and dissolve it warm water and cautiously pour off the top of the water after its settled and you do end up grit and pink sand in the bottom. and I dont mean a little I mean alot. our red sandstone of the southwest is pink and red for the same reason. its just dirty unrefined salt. I used iodized salt and pickling salt which is pure salt. I threw out my pink salt. Also salt can be used for eye wash or other things and the pink salt has that grit in it. you also have no control over various chemicals your getting. if you already eat somewhat healthy then use pink salt for a purist you now have lost control over whats going in your body. sea salt now is not what it was the past centuries. with pollution and mercury its very hard to be sure whats in sea salt or where it truly came from. when the water evaporates out in these flats you have everything from mercury to radioactivity and noxious pesticides and pcbs that werent around hundreds of years ago

One thing to note is that if you're using any salt as a finishing salt, the grain size does matter. Smaller grains are perceived as saltier than larger flakes/grains based on how the tongue receives salt. i.e. though it may be the same amount of salt, it can become too salty or not salty enough based on the grain size.
