The Attitude Era was the very first era that I started watching WWF/E after a couple of months I stopped watching WCW. It was absolutely fantastic and it was a fun ride with that time period back then in my childhood years. The Ruthless Aggression Era was fun too in the WWE. They're having decent superstars, matches, story lines, and most entertaining wrestling in the United States. Two eras that I fondly grew up from and it was edgy and uncensored at times because of the adult oriented content that they had when they fought against WCW in the Monday Night Wars in the late 1990s and early 2000s until they remove it and went back to family friendly content during the summer of 2008.

If a match is hugely anticipated and especially a "dream" match nobody don't want to view a quick match. The longer it last, the better outcome and you get your money earned depending on who's in the match. A long match is a huge importance to the main event scene. Now with the low-card and mid-card matches is a huge difference. That shouldn't have much time because those are not important compare to the main event scene.

Although I was fortunate enough to have grown up watching both, I lean slightly towards Ruthless Aggression era because a lot of the wrestling during that time was so similar to the style of my all-time favorite: Bret Hart. I started watching WWF in 1992, right when they started getting behind Bret as the face of the company and he influenced a great deal how I viewed the in-ring action, parallel to the stories being told around it. It had without a doubt the best performers when it came to what this is all about; wrestling. Benoit, Eddie, Jericho, HBK, Angle, Lesnar, Shelton, Booker T, Edge, Christian, RVD, William Regal, etc.

Both eras were magical no doubt. But from where I see, most people would choose attitude era because of nostalgia. This is the period when pro wrestling got revolutionized, when wrestling peaked and people were witnessing something that has never happened before. Now, I moving into ruthless aggression era, it was literally attitude era 2.0 with little modifications. I pick this era, as thus era had less cartoon-ish and more mature storylines, handsome amount of quality matches, and also a roster filled with talents. It had stars from previous eras, lots of guys coming from wcw & ecw, and also some home grown. The violence, profanity, badass promos were just as great as attitude era. Most importantly brand wars made it absolutely phenomenal. The only thing was missing in this era was rock and stone cold. You can bet had these two guys never left, then ruthless aggression would be undisputed best era in pro wrestling history. Overall, I like ruthless aggression more but someone says attitude was better then I'm completely okay with this. There is a very thin line between these two eras, it’s much harder to pick one easily.

Man, it's BS when people use "nostalgia" as an excuse. I've never seen 1997-99 before until recently. I started as a kid on 2000, 2001 around there. So I have no nostalgia ties to it. And when i saw it all recently it was the most fun wild insane pro wrestling entertainment I've seen, I loved it as a new viewer. I understand why people love it... CAUSE IT WAS ACTUALLY GOOD AND ENTERTAINING! It's like every second is entertainment.

I grew up watching the ruthless Aggression era, though I used to look back on the classics days only from DVDS. Like I first only seen part of Taker’s legacy and career, starting with watching Tombstone: The History of the Undertaker, which is my favorite classic DVD, my cousins once owned. Since then, I had been paying attention to the ruthless aggression, though I would look back at WWF matches from the attitude era because there was so much I was missing, when others were born before me, and when I was months old, I never caught a glimpse of the attitude era. Though all my life I grew up in the ruthless aggression era, as I’ve seen the greatest matches, and storylines though Undertaker and Kane’s storyline has lived up to it’s name, and memories. Though attitude era had it’s moments. Wrestling has brought us to television we tuned in throughout our lifetime. From school, til adults. “CRAZY” Though the evolution of the wrestling that has taken place will live on throughout our lives now, and the next generations to come.

I've been seeing so many 2000s kids like me claiming the Ruthless Aggression era to being better than the Attitude Era only because of their biased childhood nostalgia. Look, I started watching WWE around late 2005, but let's be real here, the Ruthless Aggression doesn't hold a candle to the Attitude era. The Attitude Era was a once in a lifetime type era that can never be replicated. People will say the Ruthless Aggression era had better in ring action. Honestly, who cares? That's not what wrestling was built off of. Hogan and Andre the Giant's match made wrestling mainstream but their match was no technical masterpiece. There's a reason why wrestling was able to draw so much more audiences in their areas. It wasn't about match quality, it was about the characters; in which the Attitude Era definitely had because it was just had way more exciting content to watch with interesting storylines and compelling characters that I may say was in a league of its own. If their was no Attitude, there would be no Ruthless Aggression. And let's be honest, if the Ruthless Aggression era was so great, then why did ratings continue to go down as year gone by? Nobody ever wants to address that. But what I can say is the fact that unlike the Ruthless Aggression, Attitude Era made wrestling cool. What did the Ruthless Aggression era ever do that was so cool? And I mean really cool so much so that college students wanna watch it. Point blank period. 👌 People who grew up at various points in their lives just need know their roles and shut their mouths because they don't understand the point of wrestling. Stop letting your childhood biases cloud their judgment. I do still kinda like the Ruthless Aggression era but more so the early days from 2002 - 2003. Yes, it definitely is better than today's product but it was not in the league of the Attitude or Hogan era and especially the Monday Night Wars. It was a fine era for what it was but it was not this golden age as 2000s kids make it out to be. It's only a golden age in your heads. Deal with it and get over it. Love me, hate me, but that's just the truth.

I give reasonable explanations as to why I give praise to certain things. The Ruthless Aggression era is the best in every aspect of the product in quality. They were open to much more new ideas and had better utilization of their production and talents. Also more opportunities do to the creation of the brand extension. It has given everything of what makes the era special quality wise. There are certain reasons with some viewers of the past on why they quit viewing the product but what I notice with the majority is they always claim they stop watching because of the departure of Austin and the Rock, yet there were stars from the Attitude era in the Ruthless Aggression era. So they only view the Attitude era for those two only and nobody else mattered therefore? Yet you praising the Attitude era? How does that make any sense? Those like you claim if Attitude era didn't happen then Ruthless Aggression era wouldn't exist. Well you forgot what came to the existence of the Attitude era? WCW that is and even the influence of ECW with its edgy program played a huge factor as to why Attitude era was even birthed. If WCW wasn't a threat to WWE then Attitude era would have been nonexistent to begin with. Thank WCW for that one.

Attitude is the peak of mainstream wrestling and what it could be. It's one of those things that was fresh at the time and can only happen once; a "perfect storm". Even if they could de-age and de-injure Steve, Dwayne, Mick, Hunter, etc. and try to do a modern day revival, it wouldn't have the same effect. Youd be hearing a song that you already knew basically. I see a lot of people giving modern day wrestling sh!t and honestly I don't find any of what goes on with the WWE interesting, but it's not their fault that they can't recreate what has already been done before when the people who did it the first time wouldn't be able to recreate the "magic" or whatever you want to call it from the end of the 90's. If there's people out there who like WWE, or watched post-Attitude and went on to become professional wrestlers because of their childhood heroes, more power to them. At least there is more diversity with the women's division now too. So to say that the franchise hasn't made progress in 20 years would be dishonest. And if there's people who never stopped watching, that's cool too. I'm here in the comments section of stuff from my childhood, so this stuff will always have a place with someone I guess. It's cool when the "lightning in a bottle" stuff happens but I don't think it's a fair expectation to need that from anything and everything when it's just not possible. And of course, there's always nostalgia. It's not just wrestling; there will never be anything that's able to recreate taco night with my father and my buddy watching these matches live.

Both eras were great, but if I had to pick one it would be Attitude era, the insanity in that era was something to behold, switching back from WCW to ECW to WWF to MNF. My god what a time to be a live and once wcw died and all the wrestlers were on one network was just a level up, that small brief transition was a great time to be a wrestling fan….

These two eras are compared for having similar tones. However, the only one that can actually compete w/ the Attitude Era's iconic popularity is the Golden Era. It arguably impacted pop culture a lot more b/c of its family-friendly tone, which was easily digested by the masses from kids to grandparents. Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage, Andre the Giant, Ric Flair, Ultimate Warrior, Roddy Piper, Ted DiBiase, Jake Roberts, Ricky Steamboat, Sgt. Slaughter, Undertaker, Road Warriors, Hart Foundation, British Bulldogs, Demolition, Rockers, Miss Elizabeth, etc... became household names around the world.

I do not agree with you that the biggest main event scene in the Attitude era was only between Austin and The Rock and Triple H. Taker was the biggest star in most of the Attitude Era since it started in 97 to 99 and was the biggest star behind Austin until the absence of Taker and Austin due to injury and in the late 99 and in 2000 the rock became the face of the company and he and Triple H were the biggest stars in the company that year.

Spear off the ladder, 3D to Lita, the power bombs through tables, not even scratching the service on this match! Then the unforgettable classic of Austin vs Rock! Attitude Era and it's not even close. Now don't get me wrong. 2003 was a great year in WWE history, giving us the curtain call on Austin and Rock full time, HBK's huge world title comeback win, maybe the best Wrestlemania of all time (19), and the birth of many new stars. Edge, Benoit, Eddie, Booker T, and RVD became main eventers. The OVW class of Cena, Orton, Batista and Brock was never replicated. But let's look beyond that. 2004 and 2005 were dreadful years in WWE. They were drawing 4-6,000 fans per show at PPV's like Taboo Tuesday and Great American Bash. Chris Masters and Carlito were in the main event (talented guys, but they weren't ready.) They hadn't seen crowds like this since 1995. Nonsensical feuds like Undertaker vs. the Dudleyz. Heidenreich and Snitsky featured on PPV's, a neutered Kane running around scared of everyone, Hardcore Holly wrestling for the WWE Title. JBL was better than expected but still a pretty weak transitional champion. Triple H in the midst of his reign of terror. 2006 was better, but no year from Ruthless Aggression compares to 1998-2000. Ruthless Aggression is not even the second best era in WWE history. That would go to the Golden Era, which peaked in 1992 before a massive drop off the following year (1993 was god awful). But in 1992 you had Hogan, Savage, Flair, Undertaker, Piper, Bret, Jake, Davey, HBK, Owen, Razor, Yokozuna, and Perfect just off the top of my head. The 1992 Royal Rumble and SummerSlam 1992 are still the greatest of those events all time, both in the same year, and both were better than WrestleMania 8. Does anything in 2004-2007 really compare to 1992? The Ruthless Aggression is no doubt the 3rd best era in WWE history and gave us great memories. It was far and away better than the PG Era thru today, but it is a distant 3rd to Attitude 1 and Golden 2.

I started watching wrestling in 1999 so I had the privilege of experiencing both eras. I'd say character wise the Attitude Era wins due to the depth and utter badassery of each wrestlers gimmicks. Ruthless Aggression was when characters started getting watered down. On the flip side like the video poster said Ruthless Aggression Era had the better quality matches. Most of the wrestlers from the AE were brawlers, which suited the time period but also didn't offer a lot of variety. The RA Era saw mat technicians like Angle and Benoit and high flyers like Rey Eddie and RVD as well as powerhouses like Brock and Batista. The variety allowed more combination of styles which meshed well together. Both eras had their respective perks.

The star power that crossed pop cultural boundaries, the ridiculous all out entertainment of the Attitude Era is undeniable. The final section about the sort of pops that the Attitude Era got is hard to truly stress to anyone who wasn't there for it. I got chills and thrills just hearing the Stone Cold glass break. It was undeniable, it was like electricity in the air. Everything felt huge, monumental, memorable. The Ruthless Aggression era, admittedly I wasn't as big of a fan of but a lot of that was also circumstantial (became an adult, got married, moved to another country, became incredibly busy, etc.) but it's impossible to deny that there were a slew of just absolutely incredibly skilled talent, and the venture into actual female wrestling, rather than just bra and panties matches (granted as a teenage boy, Sunny, Miss Kitty/The Kat, Able, etc. were exactly what I wanted at the time). The women's wrestling division has grown so much from the 90's to a point where it is the closest to being on par with the men's division as it ever has been. It still has a lot of room to grow in that regard, but the talent is available, it's just about utilizing them well because dang some of the women are just incredible athletes. Mad respect to Chyna for helping to break that image in ways that are difficult to truly measure. It wasn't just women being taken seriously as more than flesh for the eyes, Trish Stratus and Lita would do a lot in that regard, but it was Chyna being taken and pushed as a serious threat to men across the board, being in the men's Royal Rumble... I mean, it's so sad that she went out the way that she did after everything she was able to do for the industry. She was years ahead of her time, and who knows how much longer it might have taken for women to steadily be taken more seriously without her. I also love the throughline connecting Chyna with today's modern Rhea Ripley, who is an absolute delight and has been able to rock much of the same formula. Both era's have so much that was great about them and the fact that one became the other, it meant that WWF/WWE would see an incredible run. If only we could have combined some of the best parts of each into one era, including wrestlers that just barely missed working with either the right talent, or a crowd more ready for their style.
