In this video, I break down each period of Edge and Christian's wrestling careers and analyse what helped Edge to become a top WWE superstar while Christian had to settle for just being an upper mid-card wrestler.
Whether you’re more of an ‘Edgehead’ or a ‘Peep’, this will hopefully shed some light on why the pair ended up having two very different career paths in this business.

Edge was a golden boy and he was really amazing when he was pushed as a main event guy in WWE. But Christian has a legacy outside of WWE. He helped TNA grow and was the first WWE singles talent to willingly join TNA. He knew WWE would never give him the chance to main event as a main star. There’s a reason after both Edge and Christian returned, Christian chose to go to AEW and they let him shine like how he did in TNA. Their hug at the rumble wasn’t a reunion, it was a goodbye. Christian Cage’s legacy is what he did outside of WWE. Edge’s legacy is what he did in WWE.

I thought edge slowed down alot around 2009 and was lazy. I'm sure it was his injuries but for me he wasnt the same. Christian had everything but was smaller. when he did the captain charisma in 2004. Edge was able to turn his real life issues into success in wrestling. The edge character worked so well after that because it stemmed from real life. In 2001 they split up. Edge within a year won the I.C, U.S. and tag title with Hogan and was being pushed as a top star. Christian won the European, Hardcore, I.C., and beat Edge for the tag titles. Edge always got the push but Christian was always a half a step behind and had to catch up. 2002 Edge is apart of the Smackdown Six having the best matches of his career while Christian is playing second to Chris Jericho. Even though he won the tag titles he never was seen on the same level. 2003 Edge is injured and after Christian finishes with Jericho he wins the I.C. Title. Even though he put on great matches with Booker T and RVD it still was the Midcard. 2004 comes and Edge and Christian are actually almost even but Edge got more chances to break through with Christian being just a step behind. 2005 is when Edge Broke through after the Matt and Lita triangle and Christian decides to leave. 2006-2008 Edge is pushed and wins titles with the larger company. Christian does the best work of his career and wins titles but with a smaller company. 2009 -2011 Both win titles but Christian never comes close to being what edge was. The 2011 rivalry with Orton were the best of Orion’s career. Christian is a better wrestler but edge had what the company wanted. Both are legends but Edge is the bigger star.

Since it was brought up in this video, I wonder how many ppl became world champion due to crowd sympathy or due to business related decisions instead of creative or popularity like normal, if we actually sit and down and dissect the history of world champions, I can only think of two. I know, Rey got his first World championship due to Eddie's passing. Outside of Rey and Christian getting through sympathy and Jinder getting the belt due to them trying to effectively spread the brand into India, I can't recall anyone else, but it seems like those weren't the only ones who may have benefited getting titles they may have never gotten otherwise. Someone should do a video about that.

I never went to a live show. Just from TV and PPV, I felt about the same between the two during their tag run. However, Christian's post-breakup entrance theme "Christian! Christian! At last you're on your ow-owwn!" followed by that shower of golden sparks had my attention. They could have pushed him right then and I would have accepted it. Maybe give him a finisher more suited to his size. I think the Impaler works better for taller wrestlers. Yes, Edge kept up in the Smackown Six era, but he was the lowest ranked of the six to my eye. Then through the Lita stuff I couldn't tell if he was actually getting better or it was just because of how hot the shoot aspect was working in his favor. It wasn't until the match with Mick Foley that I accepted Edge as a true main event level star.

I like that at the end Christian is definitely The "Underrated" R Superstar What's most disappointing was Christian in 2005, there was so much potential and it just ended so swiftly. I also wish he was able to keep the Waterproof Blonde theme, that was the best. The other version just doesn't have it at all. If he kept the old theme, the jumpsuits, that confidence, he could've been more over but by 2009, it was too late. The peeps were with it in 2005. The silver lining at least was the run in 2011.

There was never much in it but even back in my late teens, watching E&C in their tag team heyday, there was just a certain 'it' that Edge had rather than Christian. It still is very hard to define or pin down; Edge just had the, eh, 'edge' over Christian in terms of his look. Saying that, Christian's current character in AEW is outstanding; top-class heelery from him every week!

Edge was over because of looks and being taller, that's about it. Talent wise, Christian is alot more versatile and daring to break boundaries without the need to be dependent on WWE alone.
@night6724
@night6724 Жыл бұрын
TBH it kinda seems like the “sidekicks” end up being seen as more versatile because well, they kinda have to adapt. Matt Hardy is the same thing. Matt fans who claim he’s better than Jeff will talk about how he’s a better technical wrestler, he’s a better talker, can reinvent himself more but simply put, Jeff didn’t need to reinvent himself or anything because he just always had it. I disagree about Christian being more versatile than Edge tho. After they split him, he kept the E&C goofball persona, then shifted to the rated R rockstar gimmick which he pulled off as both a heel and face. His recent time in the Judgement Day and callback to the Brood was also great and showed he could adapt.

Edge and Christian had a very similar gimmick, wich Edge was simply better suited for. If you get compared to a person, that does what you do, but better, you will always come off a bit mediorce. I'm sad, that they made Christian look like a crybaby, because he always had a more mature feel to me than Edge. This could have been a great nieche for him, because, while Edge was running around in the spotlight beating people up and making waves, he could have been more stoic and strategic about it. Like the strong but quiet type, who is up there in terms of strength with his more fiery brother, but who chooses to avoid the spotlight, just to carry when it really counts. That way he could have saved face and let his surperior in ring work talk for him. I think that they executed this perfectly in the 2021 Royal Rumble.

For me it's not hard to point out why Edge was the guy WWE wanted to push. Looking at matches before his WWE debut, Edge just looked the part of a marketable superstar. Tall, slender, groomed his hair, looked like a ladies' man, dressed unique, even watching early interviews of him he had a sense of humor. There were clearly a lot of ingredients that WWE could take and make into something great. Christian was just serviceable, like literally Edge's little brother who wore a singlet. Nothing really stood out. He was only hired to have storylines with his childhood friend, but he clearly was lucky to have gotten a lot more than that.

Great video, to be honest, although Christian was the better worker. Edge always had something that was more marketable than Christian which I cant put my finger on. In the beginning, Edge's face run was a bit lack luster and boring. It was his rivalry with matt hardy and cashing in his money the bank contract that really sent him to main event stardom. His Rated R superstar gimmick was what made him the most hated heel at the time. Not even Roman's current run had that level of heat. Edge's story telling was just incredible.

Be himself and being original. That's all. He took advise from Undertaker. Be original and be yourself and maintain your gimmick. Undertaker became a Legend and way beyond Icon. There is no body in the world who doesn't know who Undertaker is. The Undertaker didn't let himself defined by a Championship belt. He doesn't need a belt. That's is Legend and a Legacy to the new generation. Undertaker became main event without Belts. Remember like the unbeatable WrestleMania man, well Dead man. Obviously he said to himself. I'm too old for this and he accept his loss to his streak but in honorable way. Edge can do the same. That's why he so love by fans. Because he understood the business. Soon Edge will become a Legend too. That's his target.

@@tomb_vision yeah but isn't about the gold. Sometimes people get so focused on the belt and they forget. What I talking about is. That new blood wrestlers are too egocentrics and that sometimes can end in a self injury or injure others co workers. No body want to employ a wrestler that injure others because, he decided to go out the booked story. That's not the idea. Performing the stunts are pretty dangerous as it is. As long you play cool and don't be toxic at the backstage but at the same time don't get anyone to mess with you. You cool at WWE. Most of wrestler that are banned at WWE was for toxic behaviors and not play well with others.

I would say that Edge didn't really have anything specific over Christian except being a better heel. Christian could arguably do everything Edge could just as well, although he was a better face. The company just felt that Edge could be a bigger star than Christian, which he ended up being. However, Christian could have become just as big of a star if they had had (more) faith in him (which he proved in TNA). In the end, they're both still legends.
