I don't understand why people would not like the dinner scene. It's absolutely amazing and I couldn't picture the movie without it. So happy Damien kept it.

I agree. To me, it showed how serious he was in becoming great in a world filled with mediocrity. I can only admire that.

I had the pleasure of meeting Mr Chazelle out of the blue last week. Delightful person who was more than happy to engage in a bit of conversation. It was effortless for me because I am a true fan. It's fair to say that he has single-handedly introduced the current generation to the Golden Age of the American Musical, by way of his extraordinary La La Land. I will always make an effort to see whatever he does next. Not many artists I can say that about.

I admire him so much. It's lovely to see someone speak so passionately about something they love and to understand so perfectly the craft of this art. Thanks for this.

I absolute love this video.... I have a script... that I too, want to Direct/Film. I am also an Acting Teacher... and a script writer... And I feel that if I have to hand pick, TEACH each actor... and it takes us 1 year to make my film, then so be it! At least it will get made... Thank YOU Damien for saying, you knew you HAD to be the Director on your (writing the script) Film... I feel the exact same way. Now I don't (feel) so crazy for wanting to Direct my own film... OH... and YES the Movie was Fantastic... Thank you UCTV for sharing this great video. "Bravo"

Akash Akks no I don't mean First Man. But First Man was pretty good too, would've been better if Chazelle himself wrote it.
@Lucas-up9wq
@Lucas-up9wq 3 жыл бұрын
Akash Akks you kinda can't compare that, but it's also not true... Chazelle had to make a short outta whiplash first and he had written La La Land for years. After his own movies hew started writing his next movie (Babylon is the title probably) , and that will come out 21 or 22, so that's 3-4 years since his last movie, and 5-6 years since his last "own" movie that he has written.

Akash Akks theaters definitely won't disappear completely. Sure a lot will close, especially independent ones and chains are getting stronger. You can't stop streaming services, and Netflix & co. surely will get stronger too, but there's always gonna be cinemas. People love getting to the movies together with friends or family, see a film on the big screen with best video & audio possible, it's an experience. :) The movie industry itself keeps growing too, streaming just opened up a lot of extra doors. ^^

Being born into money, or societies where money can be readily obtained for art, helps. Don't beat yourself up. Chazelle's first feature reportedly cost $60,000 to make and he was in his early 20s. He didn't earn that. If you read Kubrick's wiki, you'll see that he had an uncle give him the equivalent of roughly $90,000 today for his first feature. He didn't earn that money, either. They're young, they have skill and work ethic, and then somehow they get given money. That's the part you don't hear them, or their respective hype machines, talk about.

Yes I agree with SDCC video. Also what you can bring they cant, its your own. One can learn the grammar but writing a masterpiece depends on one's unique vision. So go for it!

@Akash Akks 1) In the blink of an eye by Walter Murch. 2) Five C's of Cinematography: Motion Picture Filming Techniques by Joseph V. Mascelli. 3) Godard On Godard by Jean-luc Godard (Author) 4) Our Films Their Films by Satyajit Ray You can start with these and go on. There are some good interviews on Kurosawa which are very interesting.

I think some people in the room aren't taking his openness and vulnerability about abuse as seriously as it merits. I do appreciate this interview; it's great material, but it sometimes has an overly cynical vibe.

Mr Damien do you want Try to play a black reality movie, because in music movies, you have reached the peak, it is difficult to surpass La La Land's movie. Steve said that doing something different, you can run a movie like an experience product, just like Apple also has an experimental product like iphoneX, Just trust it and I am also trying to write a black reality movie. Maybe we can talk, my English is not good, do you have an email, I can send it to you.
