3 жыл бұрынThis is first time seeing one of the 8.1L Vortec V8s done as a swap. Add in a Whipple Supercharger and you have one rowdy Chevy Silverado! Wait until the end to see the before and after once the truck is able to breathe a bit with no restrictions.

@@chepis1975 Also 600 Torque to the wheels, on piss pump, with only "2 PSI". Lets not forget the 8.1 is a low rpm gas burning truck engine meant for the medium duty market, and never did nor currently has a large aftermarket support. In other words we've yet to see the full potential of these engines.

It really is a shame there is so little aftermarket support for 'ol FatNasty'. I know the the 8.1 is one hell of a workhorse, but the raw displacement of this engine deserves better IMO. GOOD TO SEE someone put some love into one, if nothing else, showing what they 'could' be with a bit of ingenuity, fab and a bit of dyno-time!

Haha. It will jerk you around of you want There is this kinda weird delay I don't like. I think it's a combination of the electric throttle and the 10 friggin springs on the clutch disc.

I have this engine from off a fan boat. It’s heavy asf. Broke my engine hoist. The parts are insanely expensive and hard to find. I could only find one aftermarket performance manufacturer so I just bought an LSX

I hunt every year out of a Chevy 2500 with the 8.1 and a 5 speed Alison, absolutely love it. Update: Truck was stolen last week, thiefs ended up totaling the truck running from the cops. Male ended up getting caught shortly after the wreck and the female is still on the loose.

Ok, i clicked because I seen 8.1/496 Gen 7 BBC Whipple.....but god damn that Silverado is dope.... soon as he racks the throttle and i see that awesome, custom cowl intake move with the throttle I was drooling 😅 I need one is silver please 😂

@@CornFedZr1 Not even, you'd over speed the blower out of its efficiency range/ tear it apart before it got to 20 psi. The engine displaces almost 3x more air than that Supercharger does.

@@Jameshonda93 the vortec in my Yukon of a similar year is actually considered a small block and not an LS, I think. It's confusing. Pretty sure it's the L31 engine, 5.7

Love the truck! Build! I just bought a 2012 Silverado. V6, auto. 2wd. I want the 8.1 in my truck. However. I bought the truck as a project truck. Converting from 2wd to 4wd. Old school solid axel swap. This motor will be bad ass I believe in my set up also. Thank you for the video!

I’m really starting to consider building a Supercharged 8.1L for my ‘94 4x4 CrewCab Dually instead of building up the Gen V 454 it has in it right now or diesel swapping it. Those numbers are really damn nice, makes a man reconsider his options 😂

I never knew this engine existed. I love my Dakota R/T and want to keep the Magnum motor, but if for some reason I ever swap it I know exactly what I'm putting in it now.

I had the Durango RT cool truck even cooler if it's the earlier 90s gen of Dakota rt but I don't think that motor was called a magnum could be wrong

@@boxedfender4810 I actually prefer the 2nd gen bodystyle personally. I imagine the 1st gen handles better and its faster by nature of weighing less, but I honestly wouldn't trade my 2nd gen for one. Im also not exactly a small guy so I may not even fit in the 1st gen xD

Are the heads stock, swapped or ported? I've always been curious about 8.1 builds and how they're approached since they're not common in the aftermarket. Very cool truck!

Sounds and looks absolutely beautiful but for an 8.1L with a 2.9L Whipple I’m actually a bit surprised the numbers aren’t a fair bit higher. Not trying to take away from the build though, damn fine job!!

Beautiful truck. Ol' fat nasty's are torque monsters, and sound great. Im just gonna be real though, and take all the flak I get from this. You can make these numbers with a 5.3 or 6.0. These big displacement engines just sadly have trouble getting enough air in to fill the cylinder to its full potential. Even if you get it to that point its chugging enough fuel to make a street build very impractical...

I mean I know with that setup it wasn't cheap and that thing can probably go for a while before it needs work done. But that just doesn't seem like that much power for the effort and money. I mean you can throw ebay turbos on a 4.8 and with heads, cam, exhaust and, intake with the turbo it would still be cheaper than a 8.1l vortec and make around 800hp

You would make that once on a dyno. Yall dont realized that shit doesnt hold together bone stock like that. Yeah 20 psi will make 800, this made 730 tq with only 7psi

You literally have to do nothing to the engine but change the cam and throw a helping of boost at it. It doesn't get any easier.

How did you bolt that supercharger on to the big block? I have a 454 Vortec L29, would that work on that engine as well? What kit do I need?

If it comes as a kit from Whipple, it'll come with an intake manifold system that holds the air to water intercooler and mounts to the bottom of the blower. It doesn't look like they sell a kit that will fit the L29 or the L18, so it's going to mounted on with a custom intake manifold.

The 8.1 isn't known for being able to handle much power with the stock internals. An iron block 4.8/5.3/6.0 with ring gap is know to handle 1,200/1,300/1,550hp with twin turbos, H/C/I.

The 7.3 is getting out of the gate aftermarket support. Towing may be it's intended purpose, but it's proving a bit more versatile than the 8.1 already
