Great vid. Helped me a lot. Warning, when I went to test and the housing moved down in the slot and was touching a bottom of the dryer, this caused some sparks and smoking, make sure the housing is completely in the slot and off the ground.

Thanks for the video! Realized I didn't need to take everything off like many of the other videos showed (and I couldn't figure out since these older duets do NOT have handy tabs for the control panel). From your video, I figured out how to remove the housing with the heating element, so I could test them. Now, just need to order the correct heating element (the kit I had on hand had a later generation heating element).

Really appreciated this video and although a few of the steps were skipped in the video, it contained everything I needed to fix my Whirlpool Duet dryer and its broken heating element. With that said, I don't recommend that everybody remove the housing. It may be totally unnecessary and you can get to the fuses and the element w/ multimeter to test continuity *without* removing the housing. Getting the housing back in was a PIA. You have to tilt the housing forward so that the tab at the back of the housing will catch inside the housing port. It took me the better part of 30 minutes to figure that out.

I saw a similar video; it suggested that one tests it first with just air, not heated air. If it has heat, then it's the control board. If not heat, then do what you did. I like your video and the suggestions you made especially with regard to using a camera and cleaning the lint, the latter so critical.

Take a look at the 6:23 spot in the video, you will see the tab at the end of the tube. To remove the tube, you have to rotate that housing until you can tilt the tube enough to get the tab out. Same with putting it back in, insert the tab, then rotate to the right orientation. CAREFUL, the edges are sharp! Proof is in my band-aid.

@MrSurgery1st

Take a pair of needle nose pliers and lift up and turn the screw. place a small flathead screwdriver between the face of the screw and the sheet-metal so this should help. (Be careful not to pinch your hands. It really hurts )If that does not work you will have to drill it out.

Dude you showed the element and the thermostats inside the body of the dryer and the next scene is them laying on the floor. How did you get them out of the dryer. I got to that point and lightly yanked and they wouldn’t come out. They’re in a galvanized tube that connects to the back wall of the dryer so I called my repairman. Here goes another couple hundred for a $30 fix.
@davisfamily_5354
@davisfamily_5354 9 жыл бұрын
How do you get the heating element out of the dryer? Do you just have to yank it out after taking out the screw? Mines seem to be stuck or not coming out as easy as the one in the video. Also would it be okay to leave it in the dryer and remove that black metal, test the thermostat with the ohmeter from within the dryer?

My whirlpool duet sport dryer stopped working and I figured out that the thermal fuse had blown. I replaced it and it was working again, but I saw that something must be wrong with my sensors because when it was on an auto cycle, it would get near the end of the cycle and then add a bunch more time and basically run too long. Guessing that is how the thermal fuse blew the last time. I figured I'd just use the manual timed cycles instead since they don't auto add time. Someone used the dryer on an auto cycle, but I didn't think they let it run for a long time... now the dryer is not working again. I know how to replace the thermal fuse now, but I just did that and don't want to have to keep doing that. Obviously there is another problem. Any suggestions? Broke teacher so I need to try to fix this myself.

Need to check all your fuses and thermostats with the ohmmeter
@kellimovalson6699
@kellimovalson6699 8 жыл бұрын
I know this is a stupid question, so forgive me...but the dryer needs to be on in order for the ohm meter to check for continuity, correct? I just want to make sure before I electrocute myself, lol! Dryer seems to work fine, when I can get the time to run time to work on the control panel. I usually have to turn the dial, and press a few buttons, until I FINALLY get any minutes to register on the "Estimated Time Remaining" screen. It will typically show "--" instead of minutes, and won't turn on until I play around with the settings dial long enough to get the minutes to flash on the screen and quickly press "Start" before it goes back to "--". If you have any other ideas before I get started on what could be the problem, please let me know. Thank you!

Yes you must unplug the dryer/flip the breaker before working on it at any time
@WalshLuken
@WalshLuken 7 жыл бұрын
Kelli Movalson no the dryer does not need to be on, the ohm meter is sending a current through each part to see if there is continuity in the part. Switch off your breaker before working on this at all.

I have a question: my dryer is running TOO HOT... when I dry something on low heat, such as delicate fabrics, the dryer is so hot that it ruins, shrinks, or fades almost everything I put into it! Your probably having a issue with the high temp fuse. It shuts off the element when it gets too hot. When you buy a fuse set it comes with two fuses. Replace both of them. That is my advice. Some people only replace the one bad on, but I would replace both while I had it open.

@@MrSurgery1st I finally figured out how to create a 5% off coupon for your viewers/subscribers ONLY. This code is only good through 2020 (let’s re-evaluate in October or November). Let’s try it out and see if it is helpful for people who are DIYers. Not only have I created this exclusive code that you can place in your videos, but I will be sending out a follow up email to all my customers with a link to your video for a tutorial! I hope this will take your channel to another level. ALSO, I would recommend going on my amazon product page and uploading your video so customers can see your video. I think this alone will give you an extra 50,000 views a year! www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_2?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=kenmore+dryer+heating+element&field-brand=JACS&field-asin=B07VC54WQW Here is your exclusive Code: JDWyoutube Thanks, Ben PS. You may have to give this code 4 hours to work. Amazon takes awhile to populate these coupons.

you don't have to turn off the breaker just unplug it

Sometimes it's easier just to pull the dryer breaker instead of pulling the dryer away from the wall to unplug it. Especially if you're a smaller person.

If you have the screw out and remove the mounting bracket. You will have to pull really hard and aggressively to get it out.

I have a F12 error on my Whirlpool washing machine. "F12- Heater element short circuit Check water heating element Check relay if fitted Check wiring to heating element and PCB connection" I'd guess that your video applies for a F12 error or just a F8?
