That code, F06 and E01, like most of these videos show, means that the MCU is no longer talking to the CCU. That could be one of three things. MCU---most likely. CCU--- less likely. The wiring between them--- least of all likely. I know that Scottthefixitguy was very kind to put out this video and he also steers you towards getting an MCU that is returnable just in case it isn't the issue. All good advice, but there is a surefire way to determine if it is the MCU. Remove the MCU, and then remove the motherboard from the white housing. Only three clips hold it in place. You will most likely see a small burn mark on the housing which will line up with a damaged portion of the MCU motherboard. If you see the burn mark, it's the MCU.

And if it's not the MCU? I've seen some sites saying it could be as simple as the door latch? Something about it not detecting that it's locked, causing the disruption in communication. Or are they just full of it and it's a different code all together?

I think when the door lock fails it won’t spin but I don’t think it shows a code for that.

Thanks very much for this video. I had the same error code and tried the “unplug for 10 minutes” for the washer to hopefully reset itself, but mine didn’t. When I pulled the MCU out it had a scorch mark and burned component almost identical to the one in this video, so then I knew the MCU replacement definitely was required. Full marks to Whirlpool for how they designed it to be so easily replaceable, but without this video I wouldn’t have known where to start, nor what to look for as an indicator of a fried component on the MCU. Glad I didn’t have to pay for a service call for such a straight forward replacement!

Thank you for your help. I have this error and other errors as well. I have always disliked my washer and have decided to move on from this washer. I paid roughly $450 for this thing years ago and paying $280 for a new MCU and pairing it with other old parts just aint worth it. Thank you for a great video though.

Very helpful post, I've my MCU on order as I was experiencing the exact same scenario on my Whirlpool Duet washer... fingers are crossed. Update - this fixed my washer! Thanks again for posting this video!

I got the F6 E1 error, but before I opened the back to remove the MCU, I tried power cycling the machine by unplugging it from the wall for 30 seconds. After I plugged it back in, I was able to start it normally and the wash cycle continued without any problem. So this error doesn't always mean a defective MCU. Just something to try.

If the washer is running all until the last step (between "spin" and "done" Would it still be the motor control? It spins while "washing" and "rinsing" but then stops at the end of the cylce

Could also be the door lock.

F06 E01 repair success - F06 E01 error can be MCU or CCU problem. I diagnosed that Motor Control Unit part # W10374126 needed replacement as follows. I temporarily disconnected the 2-wire connector from the motor (easy access) to generate a different error code from the washing machine diagnostic test mode (its east to put machine into test mode) confirming that the CCU was working ok. I removed the MCU following instruction from this excellent video. I then removed the circuit board to expose a burn mark on the inside of the housing. Also found a small part of a chip from the board likely blown up as the MCU failed. Once you have removed back panel, removing MCU can take 5 mins. You can easily remove the circuit board from MCU housing to inspect for failure. Replacement of MCU takes 5-10 mins. Watch the video to see how to remove the connectors behind the small door and lift the tab to slide MCU out of its mounting.

Hi Lisa, I would disconnect all the wires going to the controller under the top panel and then clean each connection with spray electrical cleaner and then plug them all back in. If it still doesn’t work then you just replace the controller.

F06 E01 error code suggests MCU or CCU problem. Use Diagnostic test mode to confirm CCU is OK. For diagnostic test mode. Power on machine. Wait for all lights to go out. Select 3 buttons other than Power, Start Stop buttons. These will be your Buttons 1,2,3. Press Button 1 Button 2 Button 3 in this order 3 times in less than 8 seconds. This will return error code that relates to your machine failure. By temporarily removing a different connector in back of machine, you can get different error code confirming that Control Unit is working. This should give you confidence to replace MCU.

@@damnyankeex1 : I try not to get into that if I can get away with it buddy, unless they ask me outright. I'm just there to fix the machine, I know they've bought a piece of junk but hey as long as they pay the bill then I'll keep quiet. To be honest though, with the levels of unemployment. I suppose it's all some of them can afford.

Hey Scott. Thanks for the video. We have the same probably I believe. Really heavy comforter, loud bang (which I assume is the brake), and then it stops moving and we get F6 E1, which says it is either the MCU or CCU. I pulled the MCU but didn't see any burn marks or anything that looks like something was blown. Trying to decide if it was the MCU or the CCU and would like to avoid buying both. If there are no signs of something blown on the MCU, would you replace the CCU first, or could it still be the MCU. Any thoughts are appreciated.

I’d replace the motor controller first.
