And that doesn't include death benefit to the families. So much of the criticism of use of systems like Javelin, Paveway, etc is based on the most infantile understanding of, (1) economics, and (2) the value of the lives of our soldiers. They'd rather the men had to carry out a gun and grenade attack and maybe got one or two killed in the process? Of course it's the "peace movement", they want the Islamists to win.

To be fair (and the credit of the filmmakers), the white Toyota HiLux became the favorite car of terrorists, rebels, and general insurgencies everywhere. The most awkward moment was when some US-based plumber saw his old pickup (complete with his name/company phone number still on it!) end up with ISIS militants in Syria. The HiLux was replaced in 1995 by the Tacoma. But why the HiLux? Japan started doing gov't buy-backs of old cars so people would buy new, more efficient cars (with bigger incentives for those older than 13 years). White is a popular color for vehicles in Japan. When all those used cars piled up, there wasn't a domestic market so they got shipped abroad. Middle East consumers like light colors because they don't get hot as fast in the burning sun. So suddenly you have all these white Toyotas for cheap. While the US plumber wasn't a Japanese-owned vehicle, it ended up on the used market for similar reasons: send it to where it'll sell.

Mostly right... But The Hilux is still being produced, but not sold in the USA. The Japanese government doesn't buy back vehicles, what they have is, ever 3 years the Japanese have to pay a large tax on their car to incentives buying new, so depending on the car after say 9 years the fee is high enough that it become more economical to sell the car and buy new, The second hands are mostly are exported. Tho it's my understanding the majority of Toyota utes are sold new to the middle east governments and contractors (same in Africa) these are then stolen and used. There would definitely be some secondhand imported vehicles too - they are very very cheap too - the real cost is local import taxes plus some shipping. Source: I'm JDM(Japanese Domestic Market) car nut job since 2001.

Interesting tidbit on the plumber. He traded in the vehicle to a US dealership for a new truck. He offered to take the decals off but the dealership said they’d take care of it. Guess who never took care of it? There was a lawsuit over it later. The plumber was getting death threats.

An insurgent that parks a Toyota truck directly in front of a US military convoy and fires at them with nothing but small arms is a bad insurgent. 3.) So you don't understand that military hardware such as the FGM-148 Javelin man-portable anti-tank missile is expensive and its cost has to be justified to a populace that's already upset that they're overtaxed for war toys, that religious psychos like the Taliban are neither clever nor forward-thinking, or that TV journalism has gotten so profit- and ratings-driven that journalists will do stuff like that to get a really cool shot. Seriously, during the Iraq fiasco there was a news report about a munitions factory that made conventional bombs, and that one of the workers interviewed for it said that a day's work for them can be expended in a single tactical air strike.

The funny thing is that Major General scolded the soldier amount rose to 80 thousand dollars. In fact, when the Americans withdrew the amount, they lost 11 billion dollars and the cost of war equipment, for a period of one year, amounted to 115 billion dollars. What a shameful defeat.
