I bought this because I wanted to end the year with an awesome whisky. I've tried the 12 years long ago, and this is the only (afforadable) one that I can get my hands on! Watch on to find out how this tastes!

Great review...thank you! Living in Japan, it's a bit easier (and cheaper!) to find Hibiki...but still expensive. I'm not a huge fan of the Japanese Harmony for the reasons you mentioned, but the others are really hard to find here as well. Love the channel, just subscribed...so looking forward to your reviews!

I had a bottle of that same Hibiki Japanese Harmony ~8 years ago for a discounted price and was super underwhelmed even with the discount. The bottle looked great as you noted, but the whisky itself just didn’t have a lot of flavor to it. The Yamazaki at the time was far better, and I ended up “gifting” my Hibiki to my colleagues to enjoy during happy hours. I also have found the Nikka Coffey Grain is my go-to for mid-range Japanese whisky, but there are simply far better options than the Hibiki.

I was thinking of a Yamazaki next, although my fave Nikka is the From the Barrel. Blessed New Year!

I believe it is all marketing and hype. The Japanese Harmony is not a pure Japanese whisky. it is blended in Japan, perhaps with whiskies from Scotland and the US. with $200 you can get really amazing whiskies from Nikka, or top up a little more for some Ichiro.

I picked this up exactly 3 years back in December of 2020 at S$ 129 from a Cold Storage located in the basement of Marina one. Not sure why the price has touched 200 for a NAS version ? I remember I had picked up the Yamazaki 12 also in the same year and that was for around S$ 260 !!! At 129 taste was still ok. At 200, definitely not….

There is are whiskey over here called Whyte and mackay it’s supposed to be really good not sure if u can get it in Singapore but if u can I would recommend trying it

Personally, i will say that Level 1 and Level 2 are more for general knowledge and personal growth. To have a useful certificate, it has to be the Level 3. But the roles will be slightly limited, since not all restaurants will be looking for a sommelier to help pair their food and wine menu together. I could be wrong and there might be other roles out there, but this is what I know.
