. . . a scotch which comes from a small speyside Distillery which is now a non-productive museum. Shame really, such a wasted resource and employment opportunity.

Hi Ralfy, excellent review about a whisky where distillery is not in production anymore. I heard that there are plans to bring back production to Dallas Dhu. This would really make sense. I have a little miniatur bottle from 1982 from Gordon MacPhail in my stash. I will open it maybe end of this year. Cheers from Germany

Hey Ralfy, I love your reviews. Have you considered listing the malts you have reviewed with their scores? It would be really helpful to be able to refer to it when shopping, even if some of the reviews are old.

A never ending topic i would like for you to bring up is the huge one regarding alcoholism, unemployment, and how to get Scotland on its feet again. The whisky industry is both looked down on by the goverment and still brings in huge money to Scotland in form of turism and selling of the whiskys. Scotland should be proud of the many great distillers doing such a great job in getting ppl jobs and bringing in taxmoney. Hard topic, alcoholism and "poverty". Take care Lars

Great review Ralfy!!! How about doing a series on independent bottlers that are not so mini. Tasted some drams of the Cadenhead´s range at Hamburg´s Hanse Spirit. All of them were excellent and Grant Macpherson is just a great professional. Would be interesting to get your point of view in which case one should buy an official bottling and when independent bottlers are the better option. I am quite sure that you further have a lot of background information on the big independent bottlers!

I would love to see Scotland as an independant country. As a Frisian I can relate to the Scottish cause.

Thanks for the great reviews. Ever considered doing a series on italian amaros like fernet-branca, or a series on the varieties of chartreuse? Both are very popular with the US crowd nowadays. We're slowly figuring out the old ways are the right way.

Proprietary yeast from Scottish distillers would be a grand idea. Akin to Rum and Bourbon distillers. Mind you one would need patience since it would be quite awhile with ageing and all.

Great stuff as usual Ralfy! I would love to see you go back to Bourbon if you could find some of the more interesting stuff like 4 Roses single barrel Blanton's Gold would be a great one. Pappy Van Winkle 15 is great stuff if you can get it.

Ralfy, can you do a review of Dewar's White Label? No one laugh at me for asking that... I'm literally just now buying my first bottle of scotch and Ralfy i watch your videos all the time to try and educate myself. EXCELLENT videos, very detailed, and VERY helpful. And you mentioned Robbie Burns in one of your videos, and I thought that was excellent because he's my ancestor! Haha

I never knew After Eight mints are an English candy. I've eaten a lot of them growing up in California. Hmm, sounds like something fun to try with whisky.

Makes me want to try my 1975 30 y.o. SigVin cask strength Dallas Dhu, but still waiting for the right special occasion. If you happen to pay a visit to Berlin, Germany, let me know... ;-)

It was bottled in january 2004, so that makes it 24. It stops ageing when it leaves the cask, at least for age statement purposes.

Has malt mention "malt moomins" been used? It's mostly a Scandinavian thing, google it if it's not ringing a bell : ) Looking forward to the next mini series what ever it might be!

Hi Ralfy. In your opinion will a distiller intentionally fill the cask with spirit higher than 80%AbV if they intend to bottle it 18-24 yrs down the road ?? as additiional re-distillations can always pump-up that Volume(%AbV that is) or is it done more "on the fly" as in a 'as-needed' basis? Thanx Ralfy Btw...love those After Eights!!

Hey Ralfy. In making "brew" ...been cloning yeast4lyk 8mo now...its not a very difficult concept, u jus keep pullin preyeasted samples frm each new mash n add yor cloned yeast frm that previous fermentation2 tht new mash...&so on& so on! It can go on4 decades...and it does!! especially as done w/Jim Beams "Jug Yeast" wich has been kickin since Prohibition! cheers Ralfy.

Ralf maybe they didn't water the whisky down before it went in the barrel, maybe they knew it was for the long term and left it neat?
@aldoorn
@aldoorn 11 жыл бұрын
yeah 'age' statement is for maturation. once it goes into the bottle then they dont think about the age much. although it would be nice if every bottle had a 'distilled', 'bottled' date just for reference.

Wouldn't it be a mind-screw if we found out that Dallas Dhu was ACTUALLY pretending to be dead, and was actually making whisky at night when visitors weren't around?

With cask variability being the main problem with indies, why don't they bottle from vattings of multiple casks from the same malt? Also how does an indie end up with a hot cask? Don't they taste them first? Seems like defective distillation should be obvious from day 1.

Are you sure it's 2% Ralfy?? Scotch rules state that it has to be distilled at less than 94.8%. If it were 2%/yr then after 30 years even cask strength will be under 40%. I know the malt moniter has several 40yo+ scotches that are 60%abv or higher. A recent 48yo Karuizawa is 57.7%. Also, bourbon technically must enter the BARREL at no higher than 62.5% and yet the infamous George T. Stagg is usually BOTTLED at 70% or more, and still the label reads "straight bourbon". Are distillers cheating?
