Great review as always Rob! I usually find bourbons too sweet for me so I picked up a bottle of the Calumet 16 and really like the less sweet woody character. I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a wood forward bourbon.

Interestingly, this sat on shelf for a long time when it came out and even Costco had it. Great story about your grandma btw.

I have the Calumet 16 (here in the states it is pronounced with a hard T at the end 😊) and enjoy it. It’s $150 in Ohio. The 15 is $130. Both sit on the shelves despite the positive reviews from the whiskey tubers. And you are right, since I have never seen a BTAC bottle, I need alternatives.

Nice to see you reviewing some bourbon. Calumet 16 was a difficult one for me. Very inconsistent. I ended up getting a second bottle (different batch) just to make sure there was nothing wrong with my bottle. It took about 4-5 months before it really started hitting consistently. It's really good, not great. I get a nice funk on the finish, maybe it's that black tea note I'm not used to getting? I paid $140 for 1st bottle (too much imo), $120 for second which would be my max. The 15yr was\is much more consistent but not as complex, totally worth the $95 I paid though. Side by side now I prefer the 16... but it took months to settle LOL!

Rob, Good H2H. Only have the Calumet 16 and very enjoyable. Some nice cherry and not too sweet. Prefer over the 14 and 15 year Sam Houstons I've tried. Cheers!

Nice H2H. Tried a sample of the Calumet 15 on the weekend against a NY SH 15. Very similar in quality with the edge to the SH 15 for me.

Nice review. A good value 15 year is Dickel single barrel for about $70 USD. The ones over 50% ABV are tremendous value.

Bourbon is not my wheelhouse but I have to say that Calumet 15 is great whisky for the money. Very nice side by side. Cheers 🥃

These are pretty good value for the age statement. Solid, but not mind blowing. I'd be interested to try their younger aged stuff as well

From my experience, I was given a bottle of George T. Stagg from 2019 for DJ related work at a bar. I massively preferred Glen Scotia Victoriana to the BTAC... just my opinion.

I tell people that if they want a "premium bourbon" without paying $500+ and needing connections to check out the Calumet 16. IMO it's a solid 85% to 90% of what you get out of the BTACs and other limited bourbons out there, and for a far more reasonable price than the secondary nonsense, which is the only way you're getting most of those bourbons unless you have connections.

No need for BTAC bottles/Staggs Jr for me as long i can get Jack Daniels SBBP for like 70 bucks. I call this bottle the Unicorn Killer:))Yep.
