Great job on explaining this 👏 I now have 2 Whistler 1040s upstairs and in my cave downstairs and an outdoor antenna at 54' so my wife and I can listen to all the activities in several counties and 3 nearby states as well as CB radio all over America on our scanners . Making the most of my retirement years .

All they did to make the 310 is take out the chips/ICs that do Digital and you have a 310.

The systems that I'm looking for are capabilities of another well-known handheld model, Uniden's SDS-100, which features compatibility with the following multicasting formats (among others): APCO 25 Phase I and Phase II, X2-TDMA, Motorola, EDACS, EDACS ProVoice, LTR trunked systems, NXDN, DMR, as well as conventional analog and digital channels. I've confirmed that the Uniden model would allow me to begin following my preferred frequencies again, just not sure my Whistler 1040 is either programmable, upgradable or configurable to these same formats? I specifically purchased the Whistler to compensate and upgrade from my old Baofang analog-only model as many agencies had already made the switch to digital. BUT, with so many new digital formats & technologies ever changing, I feel kind of like "chasing the dragon." And can't keep shelling out close to $1K every time technology or formats change. Cat & Mouse game, I suppose. AND, as I also understand it, most police agencies will eventually migrate to encrypted transmission, which will--for most intent & purposes--render these fancy scanners useless?

When you first turn on the scanner and see the welcome screen, you need to press 0, then 1, then ENT to do a full factory reset and wipe the scanner.

Yes with the supplied adapter. I would not leave rechargeable batteries plugged in for long periods of time though.

Yes, you can manually program a digital or a analog channel without a computer into this scanner.

“Band Plan” are the frequencies that can be received by the scanner. We cannot change that in the scanner, it is programmed by the manufacturer

@@k4dps Doug: Did I see or hear somewhere where one can switch from USA or Canada upon initially turning-on the WS1040 for the first time? Not sure either what the difference is from one or the other? Thank you.

@@Klaatu-ij9uz I have not heard that, but I do not think changing the band plan will give you anymore frequencies to monitor. Both the USA and Canada have very similar band plans

Where are you located and what are you trying to monitor?

@@k4dps I'm trying to monitor anything and everything. For starters, live in S.E. Michigan where "all" public safety agencies are encrypted via "OpenSky" technology. Rendering any scanning of those frequencies useless. So, what's left is railroad, aircraft, business, etc. Still not a whole lot with those. All-in-all, I'm in the process of returning the WS1040 and calling it "quits" in the scanning realm.
