Ward-Prowse is a unique one. He has certain assets that are world class. His set pieces being the main thing. The problem is that he isn’t particularly mobile and having a dynamic mobile midfield helps players further ahead have a bit more licence to roam. You could argue that Ward-Prowse gifts outweigh the negatives but Southgate obviously disagrees. He’s a wicked free kick taker but Trippier and Alexander-Arnold are not far behind. I think Ward-Prowse exclusion is based on the rest of the squad rather than him not being rated.

He needs to want to play for us. As good a player as he is, I’d only want players born in England to have a desire to play for Scotland instead. McTominay is a prime example. When he chose to play for us there was a pathway into the England team. Not saying he’d be a 100% starter for England or even make the squads now but he gave up that opportunity because he felt more Scottish than English

Newcastle teammate Matt Ritchie decided to play for Scotland and a decision that didnt last long, so if Gordon wants to play regular international football then its Scotland, if he wants to play in a very defensive team but can progress in tournaments then its England.

Gordon's been good this season but Palmer has a higher ceiling. He's the better technical player who can play multiple positions. His versatility to play down the middle or on the wings make him a good back-up option.

Subjective. But fact is both played at Euro U21 Championship and it was Gordon who got player of the tournament not Palmer. Also Gordon won the award playing centre forward for England while he's most shone from Newcastle playing left wing. Gordon in fact can player anywhere across front three & anywhere across midfield. As for his season both Gordon & Palmer have 4 goals and 2 assists. Only difference being all Palmer's goals were penalties while Gordon's were from open play.

Simon arguing against Keown is such a mismatch. Keown needs to just admit he is wrong sometimes, otherwise he just comes across as a stupid, stubborn prat. Rather than just stupid.

I'm an Everton fan & i still cannot believe we got $50 million for him. Honestly, what are his qualities other than he works hard? He doesn't score many & he doesn't take players 1v1? I'm still over the moon with that deal. How he can be considered for England is beyond me.

I'm a Newcastle fan & we thank you for running Gordon out of Everton. He's been Newcastle best/most dangerous player this season. His ceiling is very high. And we have Isak, Bruno, Tonali, Trippier, Botman. He struggled last season cb his fitness wasn't up to scratch which tells you about Everton. Then he went and won player of the tournament at Euro u21 championship. This isn't Gordon of Everton, this is Gordon being improved by Eddie Howe. He's added goals & assist to his game this season - he has just as many as Cole Palmer. Only difference is Gordon scored all his goals from open play and Palmer's have been all penalties. Southgate is a moron for not selecting him.

Massive lack of ambition to switch to a second-tier national team like Scotland or Ireland. That is for the Che Adamses of the world. Second rate, not good enough for the top-type players. The difference is that players like Che Adams and Oli McBurnie were never ever anywhere near getting an England call up. Gordon will be called up eventually and he'll regret it if he ends up switching allegiances to a nation who rarely qualify for anything and when they do they're on the first flight home. Harvey Barnes should switch though, he is not good enough and is the wrong side of 25.

He's never going to play for England. I'm saying it now. I don't think many of those England players like him, you wouldn't bring in a player into your club if they don't get along. Gareth Southgate is incredibly ruthless, which I respect Cole Palmer has had an incredible start to the season but it's not been better than Gordon's so him being called up over him is a sign
