Danny is 100% right when he talks about the atmosphere and passion. Is it right to boo national anthems? Personally I don't like it but I recognise that everybody is different and have their own views and values, and it can add spice to a game. As an Englishman I think everybody's national anthem should be respected, including our own, BUT let's not pretend we don't boo other nation's anthems, because we do!

As a Welshman when the British national anthem is played it means nothing to me. I view it as the English national anthem only. The Welsh national anthem resonates with me far deeper!

I remember being at Lansdowne Road for an Ireland vs England "friendly" in 1995 when the England fans decided to do a bit of Feng Shui to the place, ripping out the terrace seats & throw them on Ireland supporters below them. Would have been happy if it was just a booing incident tbh. Agree with Danny, the rivalries have always been there, its nothing to do with social media. They’re both wrong, it’s nothing to do with atmosphere or the SNP (a ridiculous point as the SNP are very unpopular with football fans up here) We boo it for two reasons: 1. The anthem is anti-scottish 2. The royal family are deeply unpopular in Scotland, particularly among the working class Jim White is 100% aware of the motivation of the Scotland fans booing the anthem, and is making a big story out of nothing for clicks and views, the two English people in the room with him aren’t even that bothered by it, they’re just incorrect in their assumptions.

I like Danny, and agree that this has happened for many years, but I don't think he understood Simon's point that we've become a far more disrespectful, angry and intolerant society as a whole, and the fact Simon expects this behaviour is an indictment on our society. Back then people might have booed, and I know it sounds contradictory, but they still had better manners, empathy, less selfishness and generally a bit more happier... What would happen if alcohol was allowed in matches, and not have the threat of being prosecuted/banned because of the infinitely better security we have today, wasn't around. Compare that to the Scottish anthem which has always had the lines "those days are past now, and in the past they must remain". Even so, I wouldn't bat an eyelid at English fans booing that. My Mother in Law (who is now in her seventies) has refused to sing the UK National Anthem since her school days because the idea that any human being can be born ruler of any other human(s) is not compatible with her ethical values. And trust Simon Jordan to slip his own politics into it. You could probably fit his entire understanding of Scottish politics onto the back of a fag packet, which is why he blames Alex Salmond (who hasn't been relevant for almost a decade) and Nicola Sturgeon (who is no longer First Minister) for being "divisive". They've been divisive in the same way a surgeon removing a tumour is being divisive: It's arguably correct but casts a misleading inference on their motivations. As if the reasons for the Scottish perception of England is generated solely in Scotland. English people will look everywhere for reasons nobody likes them except the flipping mirror. Then when England are playing anyone else, they'll have the audacity to ask why Scots are invariably mostly on the other side.
