Welcome back to the mill!
In today's video we are going to be sawing white ash that has been on the ground for a year. We have sawn freshly cut white ash but not one that has been aged. You guys get to see us saw it for the first time and give our opinion on if aging white ash benefitted the log or not. We were surprised by the results.
We want to give a huge shoutout to Solomon, he helps us so much editing some of the videos. Be sure to check out his channels, he puts in an amazing amount of effort for our channel as well as his own.

I'm in Virginia and have a ton of ash I mill regularly, it amazing and wonderful to work with. The only thing I do not like is that ash is very tough on the sawmill blades. Well done fellas.

That is gorgeous lumber. I will buy. Oh my. Makes me think if you can afford. Buy a truckload and let it sit for a year. I’m in MN so do you deliver. LOL. Next time I go see my sawyer I will tell him about this. TY Lorne

@@BeardedLumber I don't let them age , but I have cut and seen like you cut. Most likely the tree had been standing dead for two or more years and you said cut and on ground for one year.

I’ve sawed 100s of thousands of board feet of ash and I’ve never seen one that looks like that and if I do it’s rotten and it goes in the chipper we are actually sawing white ash right now. You can always see grain in ash Are you 100 percent sure that’s a white ash log?
@BeardedLumber
@BeardedLumber 2 ай бұрын
99.9 % I looked at it, and my 56 year old tree man neighbor. The grain looked just like regular ash just spalted with color .

With our grade lumber any white fleck is considered rot or decay and it goes in the chipper

Ya most of our ash is all standing dead so it’s so dry by time it’s milled the ash borer beetle really made a mess of the entire ash species only a small percentage of trees aren’t effected by the bug
