Authentic Korean radish salad called musaengchae. Vegetarian food,
The music is Clazziquai's Chocoate Truffles
Ingredients:
Korean radish (or daikon), salt, vinegar, hot pepper flakes, sugar, garlic, green onion, sesame seeds.
Directions:
1. Peel a radish and cut it into thin matchsticks.
2. Put 3-3½ cups of radish matchsticks into a large bowl.
3. Add 1 tbs kosher salt and mix it by hand. Set aside for 5 minutes.
4. Squeeze out any excess water from the radish strips.
5. Add 2 cloves of minced garlic, 1 stalk of chopped green onion, 1 tbs vinegar, 2 ts hot pepper flakes, and 2 ts sugar.
6. Mix together by hand until well combined.
7. Add 1 ts roasted sesame seeds and mix it up a bit more.
Transfer it to a serving plate and serve it with rice.

Any distilled vinegar will work well (rice, apple cider, or white vinegar). Good luck!

When I made this recipe, I added one Asian pear that I julienned to the salad. So delicious... spicy, sweet, tangy.

I just made it and had to sub cucumber because my radish was on the small side. It’s delicious!! And it pairs perfectly with the stir fry oyster mushrooms!! Thanks so very much!!

@regyme yes, you could use hot pepper powder. famous Asian Hot Sauce? I don't know what it is. Leave your questions on the forum under general discussion on my website, plz. My readers may give you some advice.

They may be thinking of sriracha, a southeast Asian fermented hot sauce that has a thick liquid consistency and sweet umami flavor, not very sour like American vinegar-based hot sauces. It’s common for some people to eat this with hoisin sauce as a condiment for pho, and others like fish sauce and sugar. 🙏🏼 Sriracha has become very popular in America, and people eat it with everything.

Can i just say that I absolutely love you? lol These recipes are amazing and i cant wait to try them. Im going to the city this sunday and wish i had more money(Im getting some geese and maybe some ducks this weekend so not sure if I can go get supplies yet). Im making a special trip up to the city to get some supplies from the korean store I used to shop at before I moved to the country. Im sure they will be happy to hear of someone looking to make korean food.I was always making Japanese then!

I never put in garlic and green onion before . I usually just put in 무 and 당근. I'll try this way next time.

yes, and also you can mix this with rice, gochujang (hot pepper paste), and sesame oil to make musaengchae bibimbap which is very delicious!

Maangchi - I really enjoy your videos. You really go through the steps to make your dishes and your comments are very helpful. I can't wait to start making some of the things I've seen. Like this salad! One question though, what can I use in place of the anchovies? I'm a vegetarian. Can I use something like vegetarian oyster sauce? Thank you for sharing your food and your culture.
