White Snakeroot and Wood Nettle comparison. This is a viewer requested video that is necessary to tell the difference apart from these two plants. A viewer thought these two plants looked a like and they really do look a lot a like, however if you can see the close details these plants look nothing a like. White Snakeroot had differently colored leaves and flowers that are a different color than those of Wood Nettle.
I hope all of you enjoyed this video and I hope you learned something and I thank you all for watching. If you want to learn more about wild edibles or medicinal plants please make sure to subscribe!

Thanks again.. We were out foraging today. Found some passion flower. We also found that there are tons of persimmons on the trees this year and we hope to harvest before the squrriels and deer get them all this year. We didnt find many nuts, acorns or persimmons last year so we left what we did see for the wild life.

Thanks brother. I have some White Snakeroot growing behind my house and next to my shed. I hadn't gotten around to identifying them. After this video I went out and looked them over. One of the easiest new plant identifications I've had in a long time. I had noticed how they looked a little like Nettle, but I did know better than to eat what I didn't know. Have a great day.

I ate lots of it because I'm an idiot and was certain it was nettle. LOL How am I even alive, I wonder? LOL

THANK YOU!! I've been trying to find out what the heck that plant was. I was sure that was nettle when it started growing, but it never stung me. LOL Now I know why.

Also look at the pattern inside the leaves as it is wildly different between the two.

But also it smells weird, like oregano. Could it be a different plant? And could I use it to make plant fibers, even if it's snakeroot? Because it's everywhere

Lots of Snakroot blooming here. What is the best way to get rid of some?
@TrilliumWildEdibles
@TrilliumWildEdibles 5 жыл бұрын
It's not much of a concern, but the best way to get rid of it would be to put on some thick disposable gloves and pull it up. It pulls easily. You could also use saltwater but that is a little costly depending upon the size of land you need to cover. About 1 lbs. Of salt for every 10 square feet of land. In my yard I just let it grow as it doesn't pose a threat generally unless you're worried about people mistakenly harvesting it or grazing livestock eating it. Hope this helps and thanks for asking Amanda!

I got into some wood nettle at work once. Talk about annoying. My arms felt like they were covered in fiberglass.

Yes it can be annoying and uncomfortable, but after a lot of stings the area being stung tends to go numb, at least for me anyway. Thanks for commenting!

bleepbleepohio.....Look up some images of what the "stingers" look like. They are crystalline and quite beautiful. Being beautiful doesn't make them feel any more comfortable. I love to eat them and once I saw what they looked like, it explained why the stingers are gone so quick in hot water. They dissolve. Some grow directionally and I can pick them without gloves. Information for what it is worth. By the way, nettles are fantastically nutritious but make terrible toilet paper.
