Planting Complete Opposite Of No Till Food Plots. There is a lot of chat about no till food plotting. To me, who cares. I don't follow the current hype. I plant food plots my way and its worked for me for many years.

Oh no a thumbs down 👎🏿. Someone’s butt hurt I didn’t follow or go along with the current hype of no till. I guess I been doing it wrong all these years and only get sprigs of plants to grow. Pretty funny 🤣🤠🤡

I watched this because I am a recent convert to no till, this video wore me out watching all those steps to achieve a field, with no till, you are in and out of a field in minutes twice a year. Time is my #1 reason to convert to no till. On tractor with a crimper on the front and drill on the rear, one pass and done.

No everyone has a crimper. I wasn’t wore out lol. This in my opinion is better then no till as far as achieving great results. With no till it requires a lot of chemicals like you said unless you have a crimper. I don’t follow the current hype of no till like everyone is following. There’s a lot of fails with it. But with that said it has its place there’s pros and cons to everything

@@Whitetailobsessionoutdoors Like I said I’m a new convert what would be the negative to it other than cost of the equipment which outweighs time and cost of chemicals and fertilizer over the long term

I agree with you that it’s faster. I just haven’t seen the major soil improvements from no till. I see soil compaction issues, chemicals issues, weak tonnage and your npk doesn’t penetrate the soil enough to reach the roots. With that said I believe no till has a place such as on steep hills, and rocky conditions. My job is to build the soil to the best of my ability. I enjoy the discing methods of working in green manure And allowing all this nutrients to reach the roots. Working in lime, npk and micro nutrients. This is my experience and experience I’ve gathered over 20 years. No till works bud it’s just not my method. Maybe one day I’ll switch to it especially if I was able to crimp it but for the future I’ll continue this way.

@@Whitetailobsessionoutdoors I was just curious. It takes time so unless someone did it 4-5 years before making a decision on it then just hard to say. I agree no crimper then no need in doing it. I'll have one in spring so I'll be doing one pass and done. I'll come back in 4-5 years and say how it worked out.

@Whitetailobsessionoutdoors
@Whitetailobsessionoutdoors 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Depends how bad it was and how well you tilled. Usually on a fresh field I’ll spray the first year then after that it’s usually Not needed when you follow the proper steps with keeping buckwheat in there and winter wheat in the fall. In your situation I would possibly wait and spray. What are you planting? What state

@@Whitetailobsessionoutdoorssoutheast Tejas. Last summer/fall I sprayed and planted a mixture of beans, peas, sorghum, and later broadcast in winter rye. It didn't do super well, but did grow. Prolly a 4 of 10. I was hoping to get a spring/summer then fall/winter crop of beans, peas, sunflowers, clover, chicory, oats, and rye. I had broadcasted and cultipacked buckwheat about 6 weeks ago and it started strong but got swallowed up by weeds, 2 out of 10, so I'm basically starting over.

So since the rye was in its adult stage I'm assuming it was dropping all the seeds into the ground. Is it going to come back? I'm in the sane situation with my last seasons winter rye but I want to completely kill it. I was thinking about mowing it and then spraying
@Whitetailobsessionoutdoors
@Whitetailobsessionoutdoors 3 жыл бұрын
This wasn’t rye. This was wheat. It didn’t have seeds it was in the dough stage this is when you can kill it by mowing witch is what I did. You do not need to spray it if you are mowing and discing. You also don’t need to spray if you are crimping. If you are rolling it then yeah you need to spray.

@Whitetailobsessionoutdoors

There is pros and cons to everything. No till Guys will say discing the soil destroys the micro biome of the soil but yet they are spraying chemicals like crazy that destroy the soil. My opinion is it has its place for sure. But discing has always been great and my soil shows it. Ask a no till guy to pull a soil sample and we can compare lol. Most times it will be very poor just from what I’ve seen

As the title says this is not no till. I don’t throw seed and then mow it over. You can go that route but then you would need a crimper or roller and would have to spray chemicals to kill. This way mowing kills it. No need for chemicals

If I had oats planted as a cover crop over the summer and want to put brassicas in there, do I need to kill off the oats first and then disc in or can I just mow the oats and disc the oats in and fertilize and seed and pack without spraying? What would you do?
@Whitetailobsessionoutdoors
@Whitetailobsessionoutdoors 3 жыл бұрын
It’s a annual I don’t see any reason to spray them if you are discing. I never do. Weeds are going dormant by the time you plant your fall plot. When you spray them you dry them out and eliminate any moisture. I would mow disc and plant. That’s what I do every year and never have a issue

You people? Yeah it does matter. Having bare soil is stupid. It’s also called green manure. Without it you’ll have low cec and poor organic matter. It also prevents weeds! Having less weeds makes it easier all the way around and also cuts down on chemical applications
