It has gotten incredibly tall and falling over in spots. I think maybe next year i will wait til last part of June. whatcha think? Appreciate your help and advice

I held off myself. I’m planting everything this coming Thursday. You should be good to go after this weekend. You can always look on line to get your dates for your frost date. For instance my home state in Maryland is may the 15th. That’s average. I always wait about 1-2 weeks after that date to be safe. You never know

Hello....did you ever figure this out? I'm dealing with this bad, sandy, acidic SC soil and having some issues with my Domain Incognito planted in June/July that are very similar to yours. I'm wondering if I should hit it with 46-0-0 or some thing balanced like 10-10-10/18-18-18....

I’m doing a test this year with 4 feet wide which isn’t idea I just want to see. Ideally best is about 8-10 feet wide that way it’s thick enough to hold itself together, and so deer are less likely to walk through it. When it’s not wide enough they have a tendency to walk though it which then defeats the purpose of a screen

Thanks. The plot was 3 acres total. I don’t usually plant Sudan grass. The mix I use does have some sorghum in it. If it’s a first time plot then I’ll spray glyphosate to kill weeds and then plant. My existing food plots I keep a cover crop in so I don’t have bare soil and that keeps me from having to use so much chemicals

I disc and drag. Rarely ever cultipack. I don’t use week killer hardly at all. I don’t practice no till.

You can check with your local ag office sometimes they offer free. Maybe check that first then if not I would just use whitetail institute there’s is like 14 bucks off Amazon and it’s east to read.

Yes. Usually once they get under control the first year I don’t have to use them anymore when planting it. It’s just the first time on areas that have never been planted before they need to be controlled for best results

It would be the same process with planting anything. 1. Soil test 2. Add correct amount of lime ASAP 3. If it’s brand new spot I always spray glyphosate and 2-4d wait 2 weeks and disc it all up. 4. Smooth it out with a drag and then fertilize 5. Drag the fertilizer in. 6. Plant your incognito and either drag that in or you can cultipac it 7. Pray for rain lol.

The correct seeding rate is about 10-13 pounds per acre. I always round up a extra pound or 2 to compensate for Birds and turkeys eating seed. Some won’t germinate, some get covered to deep etc etc etc. at that size I would do about 2 lbs. if it’s to much it will be very very short and won’t amount to anything.

I disc the soil drag it plant and drag again. As long as it’s slightly covered it’s good to go

You’ll have to hit it with triple 19 around the 30 day mark ans again at 60 when plant leaves are dry before a rain

@@fueledtohunt2173 the liquid is Instant and the granular is a little slower and may not all be used. Each has there place. I use it in balance. If you can do both I would do that. If not then use the liquid.

Hello, it’s usually about 10-12 pounds per acre. Measure the area and do the math according to the size you are planting. I’ve done it many many times with a hand broadcast spreader or shoulder spreader just go slow. Or I use the firminator but that’s not needed.

Yes the strips you see from the drone was done broadcasting it with a earth way. Sometimes I’ll stick a few poles in the ground on both side so I know I stay in between them.

@@24-se7enoutdoors3 Ok so just multiply lbs/acre times your acreage. So 15lbs/acre x 1 acre would be a full 15 lbs. for half acre, 15x.5 = 7.5 lbs. for 0.04 acre that would be 0.6 lbs seed. If you are putting down small amounts of seed, its often best to go buy some uniform plain unsented clay kitty litter as a buffer for your seeder. Mix the small amount of seed in the litter then you can broadcast mush easier in small sections. So you do a test with the kitty litter. Put a known amount of litter in the spreader (say 5 lbs). Set your spreader setting and go walk your seed area. You want the litter to be gone just about at the end of your walk at you specified setting. If you have a lb of litter left, then only put 4 lbs litter in spreader at that specific setting. Then add your small amount of seed and mix well in that 4 lbs. Go walk it again and you will spread your small amount of seed perfectly without having to fiddle w small amount and low spreader settings. Just make sure you seeds are SMALLER than your litter size. This does work for larger seeds too but you have to use a lot more litter as the spreader setting must be open wide enough to drop the large seeds. i did 10 foot wide sections at around 12 lbs per acre this year. They grew well, but are not wide enough. You can see through them a bit. I would not do less than 15' wide strips or go with a bit more seed (like 15 to 20 lbs per acre) for thicker but lower stands.

You may want to contact mike from domain about that. I don’t use a lot of chemicals. Roundup won’t hurt bare seeds not sure about the simazine.

Never needed to use herbicide in EW before. Hardly use it on any of my plots. Normally if it’s a first time planting I’ll spray with gly. After that it’s usually never needed when you do what you can not to have bare soil.

Usually that happens when you have lack of nitrogen, water, or potassium. Depending what state you are in it may be a little to late to try and save it. Triple 18 would be best but I’m not saying it will help due to being so late in the season. 50/50 chance

It's still pretty warm, I have to go back in a few days so I'll hit it with the triple 18 and hope for the best....😬😬😬

3 acre field broken up in about 1 acre strips with about 10-15 foot wide strips of EW. EW is 11 pounds per acre. So you will have to do the match on how wide times how long to get your square footage.

Depends on what your using it for. Switch grass it hard to get established and it’s a perennial so it’s a more permanent solution. EW is a annual. I plant EW more because I can always change my food plot designs. If I needed to permanently block a road way or something like that then I would use switch grass.

That’s correct. But most people aren’t doing soil samples so adding it won’t hurt anything. Also triple 19 is Easier to find. The extra phosphorus won’t hurt a thing. To keep it simple for most people this is what I recommend.

How long has it been? Had rain? I’ve planted it dozens of times should be up about 2 inches within 5 days if you have moisture

@@Whitetailobsessionoutdoors planted April 20th. Tried a no-till method but ensured good seed to soil contact using mower tires. Was dry for about 4 days until I watered it myself. (Weathermen and Politicians are the only jobs you can have where you can lie all day and still be employed). Got 4 days of light rain coming starting this evening. Late April is a bit early for sorghum in this area but the conditions were right…. Or so I thought.

Chemicals aren’t needed 100 percent of the time they are way overused. No one knows except you. If it’s a brand new plot then yeah use chemicals for a burn down and then plant. If it’s a existing plot and your using cover crops and planting the right things then no most likely chemicals won’t be needed!

@@Whitetailobsessionoutdoors there's a few weeds but there was hybrid sorghum and egyptian wheat there that laid on the ground until shortly before I planted that acted as mulch. A few things of native grass popping through but for the most part pretty weed free so I treated it with Roundup and simazine and there's a few weeds here and there but pretty sparse. Hopefully the egyptian wheat and sorghum is pretty aggressive against weed competition. Can you spray 24d over the sorghum and egyptian after it starts growing to control broadleafd or will it kill it?

I’m not a chemical fan I grow stuff not kill it lol. But I’m pretty sure you would have to use 2-4DB don’t quote me on that tho.

Yea all the time. Hate it lol. Couple things. Use a couple more pounds of seed per acre make sure to cover the seed up and pack it. A trick is to buy those party spinners that are reflective. Turkeys don’t like to see them they should stay away

I was never happy with any sprayer I ever bought. I started building my own and using boominator nozzles on my tank setups. They spray the best I’ve seen. You can order the nozzles on line and just build a header from CPVC
