Sailing Yacht Florence

5 жыл бұрын

What is it like to sail the Whitsundays? Before leaving to sail around the world we used to have a book on the best places to sail in the world. The Whitsundays were on the front cover, so we were pretty excited to be sailing our own boat through these beautiful, famous islands. Join us as we explore the bays, beaches and reefs of the Whitsundays whilst battling both calms and storms.
We are a British couple who set off from England in 2016 to fulfill our dream of sailing around the world on our 37ft sail boat, Florence. Along the way we share the live aboard lifestyle with the highs and lows of travelling around the world by boat.

Matt and Amy you have the classiest SV channel of all that I follow. Full of actual SAILING and so much island adventure and history. Very well edited filming and fitting musical accompaniment. Yours is the one episode I really look forward to! Keep up the good work and fair winds to you! Grow channell, grow!

It is one amazing thing to have the skills and knowledge to sail the world. It is quite another to have the equipment and skills to reproduce the amazing seascapes and wild life that you film. I watch your videos as I get ready for work each day, in my bathroom, my bedroom and my kitchen in Northern Ireland, dreaming of the day I have my Dehler 37 prepared for a big trip out of the United Kingdom waters.

Well, being Brazilian, and having already visited Hamilton Island, as well as flown over the reefs, I can hardly find any place like that in the world. Countless Islands and empty beaches. Cristal clear water, lots of ocean life. Amazing

I'm very happy you are still sailing and posting videos. Your dedication to the video quality really shows. Letting one person climb the hill to film the other sailing the dinghy... the reflection at the bow... you have a very good eye. Keep up the good work, but above all, be safe.

one exceptional reason that I love your videos is because you do not run around in thong bikini's with eye make up and fashion sunglasses, like many of the sailing channels. Why do they think we are wanting to watch soft-porn? Thank you for your dignity and class. I love your adventure and will continue to follow.

The bikini shots are my favorite bits. And what’s wrong with soft-core porn? I wish Amy’s bikinis were smaller and tighter. She is a joy to look at. And Matt is too. I can’t wait to see him in a thong. Scrumpdiddily-ishous!

Great video. I intend to sail to Vanuatu with my wife and another couple in a few years and this video gives me good information and places to visit. Bad luck with the water visibility in the Whitsundays. If you haven't left the Whitsundays, don't miss out on the butterflies in Butterfly Bay. There are 10's of thousands if you go ashore and walk up a creek to the left of the bay. Also Tong Bay has a resident 2.5 metre groper that likes its belly scrubbed. It comes to your mooring of a night if you turn on your lights. Keep up the good work. Looking forward to the next episode.

Great filming of the Whitsundays. Yep the weather can be very ordinary and the reef definitely is nothing like it once was. But a great place to visit even if some fish are much too friendly. Love Hill Inlet.

Hey guys! I felt compelled to comment (I just couldn’t keep my thoughts to myself!) First of all, what a fantastic episode! It made me miss the place so much! I spent almost ten years working there on the overnight charter yachts and so it holds a very, very special place in my heart! You have both done such a wonderful job of capturing the spirit of the area, I felt like I was back there again. You guys are becoming my favourite channel, because you are so truly focused on the main aspect of the cruising lifestyle, which is the sailing and exploring. Your cinematography is so professional and so different to almost all other channels, because - at the risk of repeating myself, you see everything through a true sailors eyes and from a passionate sailors perspective. The last time I worked there I was fortunate enough to be skippering ‘Spank me’ (Alan Bonds’ old maxi yacht ‘Drumbeat’ and after years of patience, I was finally able to take the tender up Hill inlet, as far as was navigable in a small (4m) rib with a thirty hp two stroke outboard. I took the dive instructor and the host (Cook) and I was absolutely chuffed! Yes, that is a Giant Trevally and the reason it is so curious is because the crews have gotten into the bad habit of feeding them ham. If you think they’re big, wait ‘til you see a decent sized Maori Wrasse! (Iridescent blue, with squiggly lines all over its face - reminiscent of a Maori facial tattoo) The males have a very large and pronounced hump on their head - hence why they are AKA Hump-headed Maori Wrasse. Yes, I know, just Aussies are an imaginative lot aren’t we? ;-) Keep up the fantastic work guys and I wish you every success in your travels, esp up the East coast of Oz! Kindest regards, Mike Dawes

Thanks Mike, very kind words and much appreciated. We think we may have seen the boat you worked on in tongue inlet, still going strong! We were lucky enough to spot a Maori wrasse but it was further away and a bit camera shy... Cheers M&A

The effort you put into camera positioning is both remarkable and admirable. Especially that footage of you entering Whitehaven beach. Someone had to climb a hill to get those shots! You continue to present my home country in the best possible light. As an aside (and with the utmost respect and admiration) I am also nominating the two of you for the ''Palest Global Sailors'' Award. You should contact the Skin Cancer Council of Australia and get them to use you as a poster for how to protect oneself from the sun. Having grown up in Papua New Guinea I know the perils of ignoring sun protection all too well. Loving your video's and the effort you put into them.
