I try to be prepared for everything within reason. I have full rolls of duct tape and a medkit in my trunk, and a small bandaid kit and flat pack duct tape in my glove box. I keep a Swiss army knife in my pocket at all times, and grab one of my many, many bigger knives if I feel ill need something more beefy. Every tool has its purpose and I carry what I feel I need up to a point

Just remember that 9/10 times your “necessities” are going to be for if you have to stay somewhere unexpected. Always have a spare change of clothes or 2, an extra battery charger, a spare phone charger, and $20 stashed in your vehicle. Any extra meds and disinfectant will get you pretty far as well.

@@MorningDusk7734 oh this reminds me there is actually a little jumper box for your car it’s like 150 200 bucks but it’s about as big as my hand and can jump a semi a few times we use em at work I’m buying one to keep in my car I haven’t had to jump it but better safe than sorry I end up on some rough dirt roads go pretty damn fast so I gotta be prepared for something bad to happen also if you aren’t concerned about weight unlike me go pick a case of water up and set in your trunk one of those big ass cases is like a weeks worth of water for one person

@@Skim_beeble7125 my partner and I have one of those jumper boxes, and it's saved our hides a few times over the years. We live in pretty cold climates, so batteries dying is a much bigger problem up here. Water is okay, but try to avoid plastic. It'll leech into the water itself on hot days. I would say keep a case of water in your house and put it in the car when you're gonna go on longer trips, but anything local and you'd get by fine if you only have a bottle or two that you change out fairly regularly.

Swiss cards are great but in low lighting it’s really hard to tell which side is the sharp one… which may have caused some blood situations for me haha

😅 I try to be equitable to both sides! The point of this story, besides being a ridiculous commentary, is that you may have all the gear you need already, you just have to learn how to use it effectively. Thanks for watching!

Get both. I carry a knife, a plier type multitool, and a swiss army type... and a card tool in my wallet just in case I have nothing else with me.

If you live in a city that frowns on "arms" start with the Swiss card. If you live in an area where no one will bat an eye at your full tang fixed blade, get that first. 😉😂😂😂

Like that old dude with a bad knee I met on a pilgrimage tour. We met while in town restocking, hiked to campsite and stayed the night. He was a little slow but his air-force-special knee wouldn’t collaborate. Next morning I wake up, he’s gone! By the afternoon I arrive at the next tour ready to see some attractions and there he is leaving. He arrived two hours earlier, toured around, got groceries and beat me to next campsite. “Don’t judge a book by its cover” or “the early bird gets the worm”

My Swiss Card has saved me in hundreds (if not thousands) of scenarios. Usually the tweezers, scissors or pin but the knife and file are close seconds. I have yet to ever use the blue pen though...

as someone trying to learn about bushcraft and general just hand tool crafting i really like this. i live in an apartment cant afford much nice stuff so knowing that a variety of small or generally more accessible tools can do the same thing with different techniques is really encouraging
