Thank you for this series. The chess set is a great idea for whittle practice. Now I have a reason to carve the same whittle repeatedly and thus improve basic techniques. I know im late but - Great video as usual.

I started this project months ago and just now finished my pawns. It's my first time whittling anything! I'm just using oak dowels from Lowes and an Old Timer. Your cuts look so smooth and effortless. I feel like maybe oak wasn't the best choice for me haha. What kind of wood is this?

Hey I don’t whittle yet but I’m looking to get into it however I do play over the board chess so I may have some constructive criticism to make about your designs. They look really good however I see that the reoccurring theme in all your pieces is this cone shape at the bottom and I understand that’s the style you might be going for but it has a flaw. With less mass on the bottom your pieces are going to fall more easily. Usually chess pieces are made to be bottom heavy by design and also sometimes by adding extra weight at the bottom. This makes the pieces more stable and in shorter time controls like blitz and bullet it’s almost necessary otherwise you spend half your time picking up pieces that have fallen. It’s not such a problem in longer games but I just wanted to say it so when you make another chess set you could adjust to make the pieces more stable. Also sorry for the bad English it’s not my first language.

Would red cedar work for this build? I don't care about the colouration or anything
