Whittling a Chess Set! Pawns Step By Step Beginner Wood Carving Guide

In this step-by-step whittling guide, I will be carving my own chess set and whittling a pawn! This is a perfect project for someone new to whittling and want an easy sculpture to start their carving adventure.
What you will need:
1" x 1" x 2" block of basswood (2.5 cm x 2.5cm x 5 cm)
Your preferred whittling knife (sharpened)
Pencil
Protective gloves and/or finger guards
Knife used:

I just started wood carving about a month ago, and what you were saying about wanting the project to be perfect in the beginning fits me to a tee. I get frustrated at myself for making so many mistakes, but then I remind myself that I just started and will keep making them even when I get good at it. Good to see that he has lots of hand protection. Probably he doesn't need it so much, but beginners like me certainly will. So he gave the example for us to follow. Hand safety is pretty important here too.

Doing this but using Crepe Mertle. Have a bunch of stick I got from someone when they trimmed it back for winter. Gonna butter one, and Kona Stain color the other. Great gift idea for my dad, thanks for these videos, and all your videos!

the bob ross of whittling great video, I look forward to watching your progress, i saw the knight video and thought it was wonderful, i hope i can get something half as good as yours, i really like chess, but dont have much money so this could be my alternative. That seems like a great thing to get my practice in when my knives arrive. I like chess and those are simple AND probably a great way to practice the transition of handle to point on the magic wands I want to make. :)

Thank you for this mini series! I've been slowly trying to learn by watching your great videos and just started to get confident enough to think of other things i might want to do in the future and a chess set was on my list, Ps.. if you ever want to do one for a lizard i Hope to be ready for it after doing 32 chess pieces :P
