@@DuyLeNguyen Basically different fans are differently noisy. Coil whine, turbulence thru the fan blades and so on and on. I have 4 identical fans in my case and I know that the bottom front intake is louder than the other 3, coz I accidentally unplugged it while installing an NVMe in my PC and noticed that my PC ran a lot less noisy. I keep the fans at a constant 1750 RPM and don't bother with them at all, so I've noticed that straight away. Then looked and saw it wasn't spinning so I re-connected it and it was back to "normal". Gamers in reality don't care much about noise levels, as we tend to sit on our PCs with headphones on. Would've much rather liked a graph with all fans set to 1500 RPM and then see who did what and why.

Editing tip: To compare low decibel sounds for this type of scenario, you could put a mouse next to the mic and click the button several times so viewers know the baseline volume the playback is at when hearing the actual fan noise.
@tronam
@tronam 11 ай бұрын
That’s actually the worst type of sound to use as a baseline because our ears by nature have a difficult time perceiving average loudness from short transients. Besides, what matters more in a test like this is how the fans compare to one another and their sound profile. The tonality of fan noise is as important to me as the volume level because ours ears are biologically more sensitive to certain frequency ranges than others; it isn’t linear, so if the tone ventures too far into that 1.5-5KHz range it can start becoming very distracting or irritating even if it isn’t that loud.

@tompo1975 That's... That test is the "noise normalised" test. The bars show what temp the fans can bring the CPU down to, while staying at 40dB. Since Noctua are so quiet, they can run a lot faster than the other fans at 40dB, and therefore keep the radiator cooler

Thank you for a very methodical and thoughtful test. Your setup is one of the most realistic and unbiased tests on KZfaq. For the future I hope you would add one more thing to your test setup: Have the fans pull air through a dust filter. That changes the sound profile of some fans quite dramatically, for instance turning the Silent Wings 3 from a quiet fan to a very, very loud fan. I also hope you will test some fans as pure case intake fans without a radiator attached!

Hi, I did a mini ITX Build in a Raijintek Ophion Evo with a 3900x, 32Gb 3600Mhz Ram, Asus Rog x570-i Board, 2x 1Tb Gigabyte Nvme SSDs and a Zotac 2080 Super. This Build is cooled by a NZXT Kraken x53. First I tried the fans that came with the Kraken but wasn't satisfied with noice and cooling. Then I tried a push pull configuration with two fans mounted on the outside of the case which didn't please me from the aesthetics. Then I ordered 4 Noctua NF-A12x15 fans to realize a push pull configuration inside the case. This was a bit tricky since there is just enough room to realize this and I needed new screws for the installation of the fans to the radiator. It would be nice if you could compare that version to the A12-25 to see the difference between the sizes. And thanks for your videos I enjoy them a lot!

@@keestojuusto6072 I've tested both - the acoustics of the value P12's weren't great. Notably a high pitched motor whine and the fan frames vibrated quite a bit compared to the bionix. This was a set of 5 P fans so not a fluke. The bionix are made of an elastic silicone material, my theory is that makes a difference in stability and overall acoustics. Also the bionix go up to 2200 RPM so you get a little extra performance at 100%.

Simon H I’ve got total of 20 P-series fans. 10 120mm and 10 140mm. So far haven’t had problems. To me, sound is very smooth with or without filters on almost any RPM. Maybe over 90% rpm makes noise. I’ve got Noctua NF-A14 fans too and the fans which come with NH-D15. I have to say Noctua fans aren’t any better sound wise than Arctic P-series. Arctic is 1/4 of the price of Noctua. My Noctua Fans seems to vibrate a lit compared to Arctic P-series when holding a fan on hand. Screwed into a case it doesn’t make a big difference but on some rpm Noctuas may resonate with case and make horrible sound.

My PC sits just above the noise floor most of the time and usually the most audible thing is the pump, or the electrical noise from the GPU when you put a huge load on it. Cool and quiet is the way to go for my PCs, especially when listening to music, as I bitsream out to an AV Receiver with big speakers. The only reason I didn't go with Noctua, they look like ass.

OK here is performance for you. The 2200 RPM BeQuiet fan will beat the Noctua, simply because it goes faster and moves more air. Not to mention will cool the GPU more making GPU fans running quieter. And the GPU is the loudest component. He tested at no GPU load, because if he stresses the GPU it will run so loud he can't measure the fans. The test methodology is bad - you need full system testing.

The blade tip proximity to the outer ducting really is the main reason the Noctua fans are the best. The best thing to do for efficiency of the other fans in this review, is to remove the fan from the housing. Then get a real of insulation tape and run it continuously around the internal circumference of the ducting. Keep winding it until the blade tips just don't quite touch the tape/ducting... You will see a big improvement in fan performance!
