In the live action his mother died and his father brain washed him to be cruel and selfish

Maybe he is selfish and the way he was because his parents died young and he was hurt. The servents may be tried to please the prince who was angry at the world and shut everyone out. Which explains his anger towards everyone. He didn't know how to love or feel because the people he loved the most were taken from him.

I think that because (I'm going by 2017 version here) his mother died so early in life, he didn't get the emotional support he needed. His father being a noble, probably had him focus more of his education and learning about how to take care of the land he ruled over. His father may have also been hurt by the passing of his wife, but chose to put on a strong armed facade to cover up his grief. Because of this, the prince learned that showing vulnerablity was a negative and thus, began to imitate his father. Eventually his father dies because he is no longer a part of the story and the prince (by the beginning of the film) has grown into a young man. However, because of the fact he never went through the proper stages of grief and never recovered from his mother's death, he began to find comfort and solace in material things. The story says he taxed the village heavily in order to fill his castle with beautiful objects. The prince is using money and wealth as a means of finding emotional support to make up for not just the death of his mother and the hole that left him with, but also the lack of affection from his father. The prince is lonely and emotionally hurt. He never got to mourn his mother's death and his father was probably so overcome with his own grief, he wasn't able to offer his son any emotional support. Maybe the prince's father died of a broken heart, leaving his son all alone and having to deal with an additional death he didn't know how to process?

I just so happened to have seen the new 2017 Beauty and the Beast, and I think that you should know that, in one scene, Mrs. Pots mentioned how Beast's mother died and that he was left to be taken care of by his selfish, narcissistic father who, as she said, turned a loving beautiful boy into a monster like himself. I'm sorry if I spoiled for some of you, but I thought this would be useful in the theory. I hope you enjoy the movie!

It's Pretty Much 100% That The Beast's Parents Died Before He Was Transformed And Was Raised By His Servants After That. Also,I Like The Possibility That He Was The Prince Of Just A Small Bit Of Land Rather Then The Whole Village Since It Makes Sense Why No-One Ever Wondered What Happened To The Royals.

In the live action version: 1) The villagers forgetting that the castle existed was part of the curse. 2) The Prince's mother was warm and kind, while his father was cold and cruel. She died, and so he took over raising the Prince, leading the Prince to end up becoming more like him.

Watching both the original film and the midquel The Enchanted Christmas, Beast is actually a sympathetic character despite his hideous appearance and unpleasant behaviour at first (though in the midquel, he is slightly more irritable than in the original film, but considering that it's takes place shortly after Beast saves Belle from the wolves and Beast's reformation into a nice guy before gifting Belle the castle library, I could understand because The Enchanted Christmas explores further on how Beast slowly became a better person, since after all, it takes some time for a traumatised, cursed person like the Beast to reform), as despite his selfishness, arrogance and fiery temper, he never killed any innocent lives, and felt bad for his actions when he goes too far, for example in the original film every time he does something mean to Belle such as yelling at her or not letting Belle say goodbye to her freed father, he'd feel regret for what he did. My theory on why his parents are never seen in the movie or mentioned throughout the animated franchise is due to their deaths when the Beast (back when he was a prince) was very young, which made the Beast so hurt at the incident that he turned into an unpleasant person, and besides any child who lost their parents would've suffered this emotional trauma like what Beast does, and with his parents never mentioned at all in the film, it is possible that this is done out of respect of their deaths because it'd upset the Beast further. Following the Beast's parents' deaths, it is very likely that the servants raised him after their deaths, and since the servants are of lower authority than the Beast and have no right to oppose him, they ended up spoiling him too much, hence why it turned the Beast, who was already a bitter person after his parents' deaths, to be a spoiled brat that eventually led to the Beast to be cursed at age 11.

Maybe his parents died when he was young and to deal with the loss he distracted himself with things. Spending money on a whim. The servants no doubt supported that behavior. Not intentionally, but rather by not correcting it, and obeying his every command. The beast isn't a complete selfless prick; through his interactions with Belle we see that he has a kinder, sensitive side. That's something he would need a natural inclination for, in order for Belle to bring out of him.

No, his mother died at a young age from sickness. I own the Beauty and the Beast book, the live action one, and it mentions that in the story. Because when they went to Paris he picked up a gas mask used with the plague. His dad was the only one left, who was selfish and turned his son to be selfish. His mother was sweet and caring. He stayed by his mother's side during the whole time she was sick.

Is Mrs.Potts Chip's mother? If so why is she old enough to be a grandmother and have a 3 or 4 year old?

Doesn't the original movie also heavily imply that Beast was eleven or so when he got cursed? So there's that to consider as well. Also the fact that if true, that means the witch cursed an eleven-year-old for not letting a total stranger into his home in the middle of the night.

SPOILERS FOR THE NEW MOVIE ( it's a theory) So I noticed something after watching the live version of the movie. At the ending ballroom scene everyone Is dancing or talking to their partners. At one point Agatha, aka the enchantress I think, looks at Maurice and smiles. He smiles back at her. Earlier in the movie we see that Belles mom died of the plague. If she died before the Beast got turned into the Beast there might be a possibility she was the enchantress. My mom also brought up a point, if she is in fact the enchantress, she knew Belle was going to be a courageous and caring person when she grew up and see the good in Beast. So technically the events of the movie happened because of Belles mom. Idk I just sorta thought about that while leaving the theater. Yep ok

I have no doubt about his parents' death. Who are them, I had two theories: Vers.1. Prince and Princess de Capete, the direct descendants of Hugo Capete. Vers. 2 (in disguise of my imaginary friend). Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette.

I have always wonder what happen to his parents

I am aware that this is an older video. But it still made me think about possible theories to explain some things. Given the time frame of when the Beast took place, it's quite likely that they could have died of anything from the plague to small pox. It's also conceivable that they died when he was still very much a child. And as such, it's very likely he never really learned how to interact properly with people. The servants were just that, servants. Meaning they weren't really in a position to actually raise him the way a parent might. Their jobs were to serve him, not Raise him. So even though there were people surrounding him at all times, he never really had any love to grow up with the way a normal child might. And while I find the whole thing with the fairy lady reprehensible... I mean he was just a child with no one to count on, to show him how people should behave... I have to wonder if perhaps the fairy lady was trying to protect him after a fashion. Considering how Gaston behaved, imagine what would have happened to an unprotected child on their own in a place like that. It's possible the fairy saw turning him into something formidable might just save him from being overrun and possibly killed before he was old enough to survive on his own. It's also possible that was the best she could do. Fairies don't have infinite abilities or power. (we saw this in Sleeping Beauty and countless other tales... they can do some amazing things by Our mere mortal standards but they aren't gods.) Even as a sorceress, she would only have a set amount of spell casting ability. So regardless of whether she was fae or magic user, she could only do what she could do. And who knows, maybe she was an old friend of his parents, and had come to try doing something to protect or help him in their passing. But finding him in such a position, she felt she had to do something to protect him and the people who were with him. While We're Told he would "die" with the rose, it's possible that the message was misunderstood. Maybe because he was so overwrought, he Thought she meant for him to die when what was Really meant was that the "curse" would end when he reached the age of majority. Not so much a Killing end as just a case of it would run its course by then. Oh and as a side note, the original story was based on an exiled prince from Ireland, the Great Bear of Orange. So called thusly because he was known to be a very hairy fellow. He had been sent to France to keep him safe from his family's opposing factions. While there it is said he met and married a French girl. I would cite my sources but I'm afraid they're just ages old musty old books I read as a child and I doubt they're even in print at this late of date. Even if today's folks did indeed still read such antiquated materials such as actual paper-and-binding.

I think the Prince's parents died at early age and as result his servants were the ones that appeased him, which explains why he sometimes look to Clocksworth, Luminarie, and Mrs. Potts for Council and advise as parental figures He simply wasn't asended to king because of his young age and the lack of territory he has. Perhaps there's a family tradition that a ruler had to be a certain age and had to have married by then, or he simply had to marry to gain title of King Which was perhaps why the Encantress cursed him to his 21st birthday when he comes to age to become a king and be an appropriate age to marry, as the curse sets the stage of providing the Prince with both a wife and means to truly love her and be loved in return Maybe that's also why he was cursed at a speculative young age, had he been left alone he would have married the wrong way, to marry either the wrong kind of woman like a selfish wealthy one or be the kind of man that mistreats her, either scenario would end with him having an unhappy marriage and perhaps even dooming the Kingdom/principality That's perhaps another reason what the enchantress cursed him, not just for his own good but the good of the kingdom he was to inherit and it's people He had no parents to guide him just surrogate parents in servants who while viewing him as a Beast deep down, still loved him and were loyal, and tried to buy his love in appeasing him

His mother died of the plag like Bell's mother, and his dad was the king but when his mother died the king killed himself. The staff were transformed bacause they brought him up to be selfish and in uncaring.

Great video. I do believe that the parents dissapeard (because like you said it was the most likely event.) BUT what if after years on squandering money on their child the parents decided that they needed to see if his heart was happy and warm. So they went out to find the enchantress and left their son alone for a couple days saying that they were doing on a business trip or something(i don't know) so when they found the enchantress, they asked her to give their son a test. So during the test, the parents are hiding somewhere and watching their son. But after the beast shunned the old woman again, they were so heartbroken and devastated that they invested in him so much that they committed suicide or they left the castle forever. And the spell was also cast upon the villagers to make them completely forget that they had a monarchy in the first place. Except for one narrative on how to free the prince. And the book is none other than the book bell is reading about at the beginning of the movie.

The answer is simple. They are dead and The Beast is currently the ruling Prince of his small Principality. France, like The Holy Roman Empire is composed of sub-states which is sworn to the King like that with Emperor but rules their lands virtually independent to the crown. In the Holy Roman Empire, the Empire is ruled by the Emperor, from the Imperial House of Habsburg who directly rules Austria, Bohemia, Tyrol and the Low Countries. Just below him are the Electors of Brandenburg (later Prussia) Bavaria and Saxony --- all of which later became Kingdoms. After them comes the Grand Duchies of Hesse and by Rhine, Baden and Wurttemberg (also became a Kingdom thanks to Napoleon). Then comes the smaller Principalities of Anhalt, Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen, Lichtenstein, Reuss, Waldeck and Pyrmont, etc. And after them are much smaller states like Leiningen, Furstenberg, Hohenhole, Salm, etc. All these families from the grandest to the smallest share something similar --- they are all considered royalty. In France, most of the state is controlled by the King, aside from some small independent principalities ruled by nobles known as "Prince Estranger" or " Foreign Prince". This nobles are basically considered ruling families and rank automatically right after the Royal family. Families like the De la Tour d'Auvergne who ruled the Principality of Sedan and the Duchy of Bouillon and the Grimaldis who until today rule the small Principality of Monaco. In my opinion, The Beast's family is among one of the Prince Estranger families who once ruled small principalities independent to the French crown.

In the new 2017 one, his mother died and his dad made him horrible. This could relate to this one. Maybe the mother or farther died and the beast became spoilt and angry. Causing him to be angry can make him feel depressed and lonely. Oh like you said, when he was turned into a beast his parents left him. We don't know, but the new one kinda shows what happened. Also, I think that the beast is related to Gaston or they are the same person. That could happen, Gaston could see belle didn't like him so he had to come up with something. Thinking, she has loads of kindness and love so she might fall in love with a beast if he is kind. So he had to change his look completely. Or maybe Gaston did go out hunting and found a castle and stole from stuff. Then an old hag came and told him to put them back and she would give him love. By her appearance, he discarded. So he was turned into a foul beast. But she made a fake Gaston exactly like him. Also to make it more real, she transformed his friends and family into objects. Then she made their memory think the whole story thing. That might of happened, I don't know for sure. But, who are Gaston's parents?

His mother died during the Beast's young life and through his father's cruelty the Beast became just like him. Then we the movie suggests his father dies prior to him transforming into a Beast. In the 2017 live action version , belle asks to say a final goodbye to her dad, the beast finally gave in , I think it's because he never got to do the same with his parents.

Rococo style was also a colorful springtime era. Yes it was adorned with major over exaggeration of decor but it was also a time of spring time paintings and paintings "en plein air". The painting in the live action is more of a Baroque style. Which, this would have been before the Rococo period, so the painting is of the beast earlier on in life.

there was an alternative telling of Beauty and the Beast that someone wrote in a style that relfected the culture and traditions if India. it was really neat. the prince is turned into a lion for enraging a local deity and also letting a lioness be killed for a sport hunt the royals and nobles were having. it was whimsical and unique. but I forgot the author's name :(

Since I started watching movie theories and got the hint that not only pixar but disney movies have an inner timeline I've wondered if the mirror given to the beast might have something to do with the evil queen's mirror. My personal theory is that Beast's mirror is but a broken piece of the larger queen's mirror and this is has lessened some of it's power? something to think about

I think they were on a trip during Christmas and the prince was frustrated they weren't there and that's why he himself opened the door. He thought it might be his parents. That's why the butlers didn't open. Later on, they heard the message their Castle had been plundered and was inhabited by wolves so they would have to stay on their...royal vaction home? I think they died in the "ten years we've been rusting," maybe because of the "loss of their son"? Maybe they died of depression. This would at least explain his actions in the Enchanted Christmas

Since you said it was based in the 1740's-ish they could have been victims of the French Revolution. I know I'm off 30-40years (maybe even 50), but that's the best I can think of. It does not have to be THE French Revolution, but something in that vein of thinking; wrong place at the wrong time if you will. Its a looonnnggg shot though 🤔

In the live version, it's said that beast's dad died, and then his mother married another man, and then died. The new dad made beast so spoiled.

I actually readed the new beauty and the beast book, that I got from the HEB store, he was actually a sweet young boy until his mother died then his father had made him as cruel as himself( his father was always rude and cold hearted) . Then his father died and he still has acted cruel until he met belle.

I like to imagine that they were killed during the French Revolution, but before they died, they sent him to live in one of their remote palaces alone where he wouldn't be found. The beast never knew of their deaths, and never really cared to find out because he was so wrapped up in himself. That's my best theory anyway.

This is such a crazy mystery! After some research this is my theory. So its known that the beasts mother dies when he is young, so thats leaves him and his beastly father who spoils him. Due to the sheer expensive beauty of the castle theres no denying that his father is a King. Since the beast isnt a King himself, this means his father is still alive. So I think after the death of his mother his father left him purposely in this castle to return to his ruling palace elsewhere; probably to remarry and have other children. Perhaps this is why the enchantress visits him in the first place because he is an abandoned Prince and this is also why he behaves so badly. He is lonely, and feels forgotten so he’s lashing out because he has no guidance or adult figures who can tell him what to do. I also think that when the enchantress cursed them, she made everyone forget the castle and the people within it to likely protect the curse. Which is why the village doesn’t remember it, the people cursed cant talk about it, girls didn’t flock to the Prince to break his spell, and his father never came back or sent for him.

In the live action 2017 adaption, the implication was that his mother died when he was young and his father was selfish. So the beast grew up to be like his father.. It also said that the enchantress erased the memories of the castle and its occupants from the villagers minds which makes sense to me..

I remember reading about how royal heirs would be sent away and raised away from their families because they were at high risk of being kidnapped or worse. It's possible that castle was built and he was sent to it to be raised during his formative years. Its possible there was a governess somewhere within the castle who was turned into a piece of furniture too. Maybe a Globe? The governess in combination with the servants would have been in charge of raising the prince until he was old enough to take care of himself, but he was cursed before he could reach that age. His parents could have been busy taking care of the kingdom. It would also explain why no one in the neighboring village knew he was there. It would have had to be kept a secret to protect the young prince

I think they disappeared. I mean, if the Beast was raging around the castle, his parents might have been so scared that they could have left their only child alone to suffer with his anger. It affects a person hard if they are alone. When Belle came , the Beast needed to readjust to a person in his home.

Plague was a common killer at that time too, and though rare, in some cases when plague struck a family at least one survived even if they were quarantined in with their sick relatives, or masters, it's possible that in a castle that huge Beast's parents were quarantined from their son am majority of the castle preventing him from catching it and died leaving him an orphan.

What if the beast's parents were killed during the French revolution? It's possible that he was a baby when the revolution happened and they sent him away for his own safety. It would explain why no one answered the door when the enchantress came along, because they were scared that the revolutionists had found them. The beast just so happened to be the only one willing to open the door. If his parents had hidden him away it would also explain why no one knew that the beast's castle was even there.

As a kid I always assumed he was a prince that did not have a direct claim to the throne, one of his parents could of been next in line and he had several older siblings for example. I'm not sure why but when I was 6 decided that his parents must not of really cared that much about him as he had no direct claim to the throne thereby being a lesser prince, and so having no royal responsibilities he went to live in an isolated castle.

You know the new song Days In The Sun has a young Prince Adam singing by his mom's deathbed.

They could of forgot about him because in the live action movie it's mentioned that the curse made the village forget about the prince. So it's possible that they travelled somewhere and when the curse started it made them forget that they had a son

okay so here's my idea: the beasts parents either mysteriously disappeared after a visit to some sort of kingdom or fled after his transformation. look if they died the beast would not have turned out that way. he would have been depressed, sympathetic and vulnerable. sure he would not have learned the meaning of love buttttt he would have been more vulnerable and more accepting towards others. I do believe he had parents who made sure he was educated. because remember Belle was reading to him SHAKESPEARE for crying out loud that means he has 6th-grade level reading and not more than that. okay so disappearance, his royalty does mean anything to the people so here's my theory, his parents mysteriously disappeared and he ( prince Adam) was next in line. after the transformation, the kingdom presumed he was dead (because you know who would consider the existence of magic). the second idea they fled, I mean their son transformed into a beast and from shame they fled and thus the kingdom assumed that the ENTIRE royal family abandoned the kingdom (because again magic would anyone believe that).

My mom told me that sometimes, princes were sent off to castles to be raised by servants and learn how to rule a kingdom. That might be what happened. I did see the live action version, and I do know what really happened, but I think this way could have happened

In the 2017 version, mrs Potts explains that when Adam (the beast) was a young boy, his mother died and that his father spoiled him afterwards. Adam was made to be angry because that was his father’s influence on him.

With the new live-action adaptation of the film ,I jave this theory that because the enchantress (2017 film) cursed the castel's inhabitants and caused them to be forgotten by all others whom weren't cursed, that Beast's parents were in fact not there when the cursed was placed. This means that his parents will have forgotten him (well his father considering that his mum died)... That explains his father's absence in the film .... maybe

in the live action movie it is explained that his mother was good but died when he was young, father was cruel but they dont mention what happened to him. The village people dont remember the people at the castle because of the curse but once it is lifted they remember.

I think that they were out of the kingdom when the enchantress came and basically every one who is not in the kingdom forgets about the palace and who's in it.

In my imagination I always thought that this parents are dead and his loneliness makes him selfish and cruel.

What if, when the curse was put into effect, everyone lost memorie of the castle and prince as well, since it does say that the surrounding land was also affected. If his parents are living in a separate castle, they could have forgotten him when he was cursed.
