Who Are The BIG FOUR OF SKATE PUNK!? (Bad Religion, Goldfinger, NOFX, The Offspring?)

Who are the big four of skate punk? It's hard to decide, because skate punk is not exclusive to one genre... There are heavier and more hardcore skate punk bands like Bad Brains, then there are 90's punk rock revival bands like Bad Religion and The Offspring. There are also straight up pop punk bands like Blink 182 and mainstream punk bands like Green Day. I'd say that in order to be true skate punk though, it is important to have been immersed in that 90s and 00s skate punk scene which would include the Vans warped tour and baggy cargo pants. Hope you enjoy my take on this!

Great video! Was so happy Millencolin was showcased. Totally agree with your 4 choices and as much love as Bad Religion and Nofx get, Joey Cape and Lagwagon as well as our Swedish brother Nikola Serchevic as his crew deserve the same praise. I've always loved bad religion but never really considered them skate punk despite being associated with the skate punk scene and being in so many skate videos. To me, the real "skate punk" style is Ten Foot Pole, Pulley, Lagwagon, NOFX, (early) Millencolin, Satanic Surfers, Pennywise, (early) MxPx, (early) Strung Out, (early) No Use For a Name, Good Riddance, etc. Bad Religion fucking rules, but they just never had that TEMPO.

I do not agree, suffer was an album that was heard in many skate parks around the world in the 90s.and skate punk is a THEMATIC genre, it isn't a musical genre.suicidal tendencies is considered a skate punk band because of the theme "possessed by skate" and his music style is very different from millencolin.

I think what makes NOFX the Megadeth of skate punk is Fat Mike. He’s easily the Dave Mustaine of skate punk

Blink182 the "godfather of pop punk", really? I would argue Descendents, Buzzcocks, but my first thought immediately was Ramones.

He’s probably talking about the new iteration of “pop punk”, technically the ramones were a pop punk band and they were the first punk band so it’s a confusing term
