I personally like to think that Kallamar is so difficult is because he's so 'desperate' to live, he is so afraid of death and so afraid of The One who Waits, especially referencing when he says "don't send me to him", that he fights twice as hard as the others, doing everything in his power to slay you, delay you, keep you away for another day or 2. The other 3 bishops were either overly confident or very determined, (Leshy/Heket) that they didn't think defeat was possible. Leshy was youngest and thus inexperienced, so he acted rashly and boldly, thinking he could take you alone for the most part, Heket was older and probably more experienced and so probably learned from Leshy's mistakes. Heket constantly sends in a stream of followers to tie you up, distract you, and even calls in mini bosses to try and aid them. Shamura, she probably had 'accepted' that there were only 'two' options by the time you face her, either she maintains the chain keeping The One who Waits and keeps on defeating you, or she had to 'hope' that you would defeat The One who Waits, in reference to her line (Five becomes four becomes three becomes two becomes one becomes nothing) as she knew that once you had defeated 'them', having tasted life again, tasted the power of the crown, you might consider turning on The One who Waits since you did all of the work with 'his' powers that he had to 'willingly' give you, as he can't just take them back at any time. But kalamar, so desperate and terrified, acted like a cornered animal, and a cornered animal with 'nothing' to lose and everything to gain would fight all the harder. He teleports around to use ranged attacks, he viciously and 'religiously' summons minions to attack you, he spams ranged attacks whenever possible, only striking at you in melee if he must, and generally makes the battle as difficult as he can, because again, he's 'desperate' to live, to survive. It's not about keeping him chained, it's about keeping himself from being sent to The One who Waits

In the new "relics of the old faith" update it was revealed that shamura also was the one who send aym and baal to narinder as they didn't want him to be alone

as far as I know, the only reason Leshy doesn't target your followers is because 1. he doesn't have a mechanic directly tied to him that he could inflict, as he is the bishop of chaos (and rebelling cult members is inflicted by Shamura) and 2. he is the first, meaning he would be fought earlier, meaning less followers, meaning that he needs to be more forgiving so the player can progress smoothly

Fun fact when I first saw Kalamar I thought his name was kalamari so I called him that until I got to his temple 🦧🦧💀

Leshy is Chaos not Conquest. It’s pretty subtle in the game itself although there are clues. The big giveaway though is that beating all the bishops gives you a trophy that is the opposite of what the bishop stands for. Leshy’s trophy is Order proving that he is the Bishop of Chaos. Your point about the other bishops being evil and Leshy isn’t is also a good point as Chaos is neither good nor evil. It simply is. Famine, Disease and War are more outwardly evil things that cause actual harm.

I think leshy leaves your cult alone because back before you killed him I think the bishops thought you were just another vessel and not one made it past leshy so after you kill leshy the bishops get serious

Fun fact: when shamura makes you fight your own followers you can escape lead them to the top left corner of the room and ROLL to the bottom right corner and use your escape abilty you will have just enough time to escape and not mrder your followers

Wait Kallamar was supposed to be difficult? I wrecked the shit out of him first try. It made me really *_feel_* the divine power of the game. It also filled me with existential dread about my own inevitable demise. I thought he was supposed to be easy to make you feel strong. Spoilers to the new update, but this is a bit to reinforce your theory of three of the bishops being the horsemen of the apocalypse In the new update you're able to kill the gods again and get them as followers, when you get them they are affected by the same effects they affected you with Heket - Starved, again as famine Kallamar - Sick, again as sickness/pestilence Shamura - repents against the cult, again as war And while getting narinder is in the base game there is a thing that could show his thing being death, as the two that were with him (baal and aym) you can get by doing something then sacrificing a certain follower, which could be death

I think its the way of Heket causing famine while being named after a fertility goddess is fitting many times within mythology you see those who give things take it away Demeter goddess of harvest, takes that away in her fury and sorrow Apollo being a god of healing while also being a bringer of plague as seen in the Odyssey within the Greek camps

It’s cool how because there’s 5 bishops instead of only giving 4 4 horsemen roles they use plague and conquest. And they make the one who waits represent death because you meet him after you die. And his boss fight takes place in a place that looks like some sort of underworld

why is the lore of the 4 bishops more interesting than anything else in this game? The whole concept of tarot cards is great but nothing beats analyzing these 4 crazy heretics.

Some detail that made me love this game is the fact the developers combined the aspects of a cult and cute fluffy animals. Not going to lie if it was a different art style the bishops would absolutely terrifying and that's what I love about this game.

I assumed Narinder (The One Who Waits) was a sheep like the player character, he's just shaved of wool as symbol of his imprisonment/defeat by the other bishops/deities, and thus explaining why the one who defeats the other bishops (and frees Narinder) had to be a sheep. When I heard you can recruit him after defeat, I assumed his follower form would get his wool back (maybe brown or black wool), but a cat bishop is good too, so that's 4 important characters that are cats in the game.

Old fart here. Quest for Glory 4 also had a Leshy, but this one was a prankish but friendly little forest imp. I say little, but he was mutable; as you chatted, he'd warp around the clearng he lived in, and sometimes he was bigger than you; other times, small as a child. Unrelated note: Your beard is god tier.

I'm pretty sure MassiveMonster just "invented" a new horseman: Chaos. As you mentioned, Leshy is a very chaotic being, and since the standard 4 were already taken, and Conquest is a bit of an iffy one because Pestilence usually *is* Conquest, they made a new one. Just my interpretation though.

Honestly I should play this game for the lore I actually got a crossover with sonic in mind where this was what happened in early agricultural age mobias, the bishops are actually Chips and dark Gaias children/spawn,knuckles tribe wiped out the lambs cult and lamby comes after knuckles both for revenge or demand what they did with Narinder also chip would have mixed feelings not sure about Dark Gaia she I presume has not been socialising much.

Feel like they missed a huge opportunity to make Kallamar into something from Norse or finnic myth. Ocean and water are really influentual in the old tales and myth from that period and area like the Näkki, Kraken, Sjörå and the gods and goddesses from those religions.

The only god I can think of for Shamura is Athena, being a knowledgeable god of war. That might be a bit of a reach though. There was also a myth about Arachne involving Athena, but I doubt that has anything to do with Shamura being a spider.

I don't know about all countries, but in Ukrainian mythology I think Leshy wasn't a god, but a spirit Don't know about other countries, maybe it can be different

I think Shamura's parallel is the minotaur from greek mythology. Both will kill people for no reason; The minotaur will do ANYTHING to kill people that reach the end of the maze because it's a wild beast while Shamura will force you to murder your own followers simply because she doesn't like you. (BTW having no followers results in a game over. The only exception is the start of the game as your cult hasn't properly formed.)
