An interesting thing to point out is that all of the bishops are actual animal species Leshy=bagworm (you can see his eyes in his throat during his boss fight, the rest of him is his bag he lives in) Heket= cane toad, an invasive species which brings famine to other animals since they cannot be eaten due to a poison the secrete Kallamar=squid (his name literally means squid in Arabic) squid ink is toxic to other animals and can kill if ingested, hence his control over plagues Shamura= tarantula (tarantulas are actually very docile and peaceful unless they are provoked, which is why she had infinite wisdom, she is calmer and more collected than the other more hostile spider species Nerandir (the one who waits)=cat the developers themselves said nerandir was based off of the idea of black cats being associated with death and resurrection.

i really hope the promised expansion gives us more lore, haro and the wolf are my favourite of the bunch, the wolf has no lore whatsoever other then killing your old pal and haro is super mysterious wearing a crown with an X on it as something is missing or taken away.

i saw someone point out once that each bishop's nature really highly resembles the stages of grief. Leshy is denial. He's very clearly naive and acts incredibly cocky towards The Lamb despite being the weakest physically. He, like the other bishops, is pained by what Narinder had done, and is alarmed by the Lamb's swift progress. However, unlike his siblings, he refuses to admit to it. Perhaps he didn't want to be seen as weak. After all, he is the youngest and the least experienced of his siblings, and the others see him as such. However, he refused to accept that label of inferiority. Because of this, Leshy lived in arrogant denial of the fact that The Lamb was something he should be wary of, and paid the price for it. Heket is anger. Her demeanor upon meeting The Lamb in Anura for the first time is incredibly damning and intense, especially if you kill Leshy before entering Anura. Although all the bishops tended to slew insults at The Lamb, it was only Heket who seemed to criticize them and guilt trip them in a very thought out way. Her frustration was entirely vented through viciously concentrated rage towards The Lamb, and she is not afraid to justify her anger. If you enter Anura before killing Leshy, she very explicitly states that the other bishops are her family, and that The Lamb was making them suffer, hence her intense hatred for The Lamb and Narinder. She was a leader and protector to her siblings, and anger was her rule. Kallamar is bargaining. Upon meeting Kallamar in Anchordeep, he puts up a front of confidence, but this front slowly chips away the further you progress into his lands. In Kallamar's final dialogue before you confront him in battle, he, quite literally, attempts to bargain for his life, begging and giving excuses before attempting a compromise by suggesting you kill Shamura but spare him. We know Kallamar is not mentally strong whatsoever, and lacks the charisma and self esteem to control his followers in the way the others can. He has no choice but to oppress his followers with his powers until they're too weak to deny him. He must compromise and he must bargain to grasp onto comforting control. Shamura is depression. Shamura is the one who was most changed after Narinder's betrayal. Not only was their mind clouded due to brain damage, but they were left more heartbroken than any of the others. Shamura had their will shattered and their spirit crushed in an irreversible way. They lived with a constant looming darkness of guilt, regret, and grief hanging over them. Shamura is the only one that does not deny that you will kill them, and it seemed that they were ready to accept their saddening fate. This may not have been intentional, but Shamura's fight is noticeably less challenging than Kallamar's, and I think that's worth considering with the rest of the context. Finally, Narinder is (ironically) acceptance. Narinder had spent so long unhappy with his place, and in attempting to bolster his power, he created a tragedy with himself at the center. Narinder, forever ungrateful, refuses to accept anything about himself. He doesn't accept his domain, he doesn't accept criticism, and he even refuses to accept blame for what happened. It is only The Lamb that is ever able to force Narinder to accept one thing; that he is less powerful than The Lamb. And, if you choose to spare him, he is forced to accept life as a semi-mortal being after having his godhood stripped away. Although Narinder may not admit it outright, it's only after he finally accepts his place in the world that he is at peace.

Personally i really wish the game doesn't abruptly end when you choose to be sacrifice Just like how cuphead gives you an animation of their twisted selves, it would've been awesome to see how everywhere is a desolate waste after the one who waits gets resurrected

The refuse and spare ending honestly gives me the impression that at some point there's going to be a sequel game that's more of a open world roguelike where it follows an outsider found on the washed up fragments of a boat alongside a map that ends up revealing the world map to be much bigger than it is with additional Islands: it would honestly be a good way of enlarging the already existing world map and give the player a personal custom character and maybe even improve the importance of followers by having them assist you in dungeons as ai or co-op and even tag along to carry more materials.

i think it would be interesting to see a godly version of the lamb, as either the new embodiment of death or a new deity all together, also i’m interested as to how exactly one becomes a deity, because the fact that once narinder is defeated, he becomes a normal creature, implying that the bishops’ forms are not their true forms, and that they could have been normal creatures at some point themselves. thanks for explaining the lore, i had a rough time understanding it and the whole horseman thing went completely over my head. great video!!

Fun fact: A bellwether is a sheep designated as the "leader" of a flock. This sheep wears a bell that others follow the sound of. The Lamb wears a bell and is considered to be the cult's leader, but *ultimately* belongs to TOWW unless they rebel, thus they're technically the bellwether of the "flock"! Pretty cool detail, huh?

I will honestly be surprised if they don't make 'the one who waits' the husband of the lamb as canon to the story. Considering most of the player base decided to marry him if they unlocked the Marriage doctrine. I can't wait to get more content for Cult of the Lamb. Currently replaying the game and I want more.

I kind of want the DLC to be that after you defeat the final boss your next goal would be to become the new god.

This is great, thank you. I haven't played the game myself (Dungeon crawlers just aren't really my thing) but watched some people play it on KZfaq - but because they edited down their videos and because of the semi-random nature of the game, I didn't realize how much of a story there actually was. It makes me really happy for some reason that you mentioned the Bishops being named appropriately - Heket the Egyptian frog deity, Kallamar the squid, Leshy the forest deity. (I only know about Leshy because another game, Inscryption, features a forest-themed being also named Leshy.) Somehow I totally missed the inspiration of the Four Horsemen - I picked up on Heket brining famine and Kallamar bringing disease, yet somehow totally missed the connection. I also missed their "See no evil, speak no evil, hear no evil, think no evil" theme. I find it strange that there are really no "good guys" in this story, but I guess that's actually truer to life than expected. Is the Old Faith good or evil? Are the Bishops good or evil, or just following their intended purpose, like forces of nature? Is the lamb a savior to the others creatures or just a different kind of tyrannical deity for them to bow to? It's very interesting.

Great lore video. I know they said they were gonna put some updates in the game with more story dlc I think. So we might see more happen in the future.

I honestly hope a potential DLC adds the option to spare/convert the other bishops, as leaving just Narinder alive feels kinda sad, especially since he gives out special quests that relate to his siblings. I'd like either that, or another game altogether, potentially a prequel multiplayer where the characters are all the bishops/siblings working together to kill off the other gods and pioneer their own religion.

i would like the idea of when new cults appear and you kill their leader almost, whey will return to their normal form, and you could either spare them, gain 25 faith, 2 new followers, and the bishop of the cult, but if you kill them then their cult will secretly invade yours and when the time is right, all start to dissent at once, which will be chaos.

Ok here's what I don't like, they said the bishops killed all the lambs in the world when there could still be some survivors out there somewhere and we just might never know What do you guys think?

What we know of the world. Is that there used to be hundreds of gods but conflict thinned their numbers. So it wouldn't be out of place that the lands of the old faith was where the the bishops and narinder managed a stranglehold with them dead. Others gods would be free to invade.

When you realize that this game is basically saying God or the god of death is a black cat: Me: "stares at my all white cat who for some reason has a spear floating around him" if a black cat is the god of death, then are you the god of life?

I built my cult as a counterpoint to the bishops (entirely on accident, I just tried to build my own personally preferred sort of religion). I bid my followers to feast, to be wealthy, to be well, to live in freedom, and to live eternally through repeated resurrection (or find peace in another realm through my Ascension ritual). I imagine my Lamb rising up, not as Death, but as something else.

I was somewhat disappointed when I realized that there weren't unique endings to this game based on the number of followers you have sacrificed, like the kill count of Undertale.

What happens if you die after defeating "the one who waits", aka. the one who kept resurrecting you? no cutscene?

Girl, with videos like this you need a patreon. Your voice is lovely and your audio quality is snatched. My only criticism is that you have to zero the beginning and ending of your voice clips to get rid of that popping sound whenever you end the take.
